Build a Jenner with 2LPL or 2ERPPC and the engine to bring it to 97kph... You can do surprisingly well.
Hell, I saw enough people with the Urbanmech Spider build and it do damn well... and that light does not go fast, at all.
The success of a Chassis depends on the pilot. A good pilot can run almost anything and do decent in it. A bad pilot can take the best build and still do horrible.

Microboom just swaps the ultra-20 for an ultra-10, the ERSLas for ERMLas, and additional ammunition.
Oh, and heat simulations are peachy for both (with corrective measures laid into the build tool to attempt to compensate for ER laser heat and ultra doubletap capability):
Boomfox:

Microboom:

Longarm:

Dead on arrival? Maybe your targets.....

4xSPulse Kitfox is a "blast to play". Of course, I'll take the 45 ton Scat C any day.

What advantage does Adder have over Stormcrow that's worth going 20 tons lighter?
I'm not saying they are DOA, but if your options are a 50ton mech and a 30ton mech going the same speed, there needs to be a reason to use them other than being forced to fill the 3/3/3/3.

Because, those medium clan mechs are going to move like a medium, act like a medium, but hit like a heavy/assault.
And, with 3/3/3/3 coming up, clan lights will still find their way into usefulness.
Also, slow lights are not much of a problem. I've been playing slow (and fast) lights for some time now. Clan lights should still remain effective by the amount of fire power they can fit onto them. Stick a bunch of SSRMs on them and you can protect the even harder hitting heavier mechs from any light mechs that get close. And 97 KPH isn't all that slow. It's still a respectable speed.

So you're saying you think the Clan light mechs will have a tighter turning radius, and faster twist speed than the Clan mediums and that would be the advange. It could be worth it i guess if this is in fact the case.

Maybe. Maybe not. But that has been the trend I've been seeing with already released mechs. Smaller mechs are more agile (turn/twist/accel/deccel/etc) with smaller engines.
Not to mention, doesn't the medium clan mechs move 80ish, and the clan lights move 90ish?
They should also still be packing a lot more weapons than IS mechs can, which should also help them out.

compare:
adder
speed 97.2without speed tweak
firepower 30 from two clan erppcs(it has a flamer as well but eh)
range 900m
cataphract 3d
speed 71.3 with speed tweak
firepower 50
x2 gauss rifle 660m
x4 med las270m
so if the Adder pilot can use his 20kph or more speed advantage well he can kite the cataphract and abuse the gauss rifles charge mechanic and basically take 0 damage from an enemy heavy mech!!!(if he stays above 500m). considering the 3/3/3/3 thing being able to kill an enemy heavy mech with no difficulty and then brawl as best you can with enemy mediums is a good contribution to your teams efforts.

Edit:
Correction, Alpha comes with 2 LRM20 and 2 SPLas. Which weigh as much as an ERMLas. I would trade it out in a heartbeat.

Look's a bit like the Jaeggermech and the Rifleman. :/
Not a huge fan.
I prefer the adder.

Aff', but I'd prefer not doing it in something who look's like a dead rat.
If I have to use a mech, that mech has to be nice looking. I can't fight in something who look horrible.
