The IS assault lineup needs a ballistic oriented mech, and badly. The Direwolf will roflstomp any IS Assault mech out there once it is released. Yes it is slow but it has 4 separate ballistic hardpoints and 50.5 tons to spend on them.

- The King Crab for good public relations. Believe me, PGI needs it.
- The *Zeus for happy Steiner players
- The Thug for a "better Warhammer",
- The *Hatamoto-Chi or Mauler for happy Kurita players.
- The Banshee to complete the 95-ton Assault gap. Honestly, there should be no excuse why this mech can't make it into the game, especially now that the rest of the weight class tonnages had been filled.

That said, of the -likely- 'mechs, I prefer the Cyclops, just because I really like the way the thing looks.
I really doubt they're gonna put out the Mauler, it just doesn't have the variants.
King Crab would be neat, and with its tendency to not mount 'tools' (AMS, ECM, etc.) it seems like it wouldn't actually step on the Atlas' toes that badly.
Annihilator would be another unlikely one- again, lack of variants- and the same goes for the Imp.
Banshee is most likely, since it fills the tonnage gap, and it's not until 3055 that another 95-tonner even exists in the Inner Sphere in noteworthy numbers (at least not in the tech readouts).
Hatamato would be nice to see too, since the Chi, Hi, Ku, Ni, and Kaze are all fairly well varied. Unlikely, but nice.
If they're gonna break timeline slightly, I'd rather see a Grand Titan than an Albatross (plus, it has a very Optimus Prime sort of a face). Of course, if they're gonna break timeline slightly I'd -MOST- rather see a Gunslinger, but that's just me. If they're gonna break timeline to put in a 95-tonner, I'd prefer the Cerberus to the Albatross. Not that any of these have the necessary variants, mind.
The Goliath appearing would make me explode also, but only the once. It is, however, a quad, and given that they ignored the question when I threw it at them for the quickfire Ask The Devs and haven't said anything about quads otherwise, I'm considering this extremely unlikely.
I would quite like to see the Zeus also, not because it's Steiner, but because it has an interesting weapon mount layout and plenty of variants. I would really -really- like to see more 'mechs out there with 4+ non-hero variants.

Why would dual ballistics be out of the question? They will be here when the clans arrive and nothing can stop it. It is only fair for IS players to have similar options.

Argh, there are no split crits as per real TRs http://mwomercs.com/...split-crticals/
Otherwise, I agree. Gonna buy all possible forms of it when it comes out...

I was going to say "because then the ubiquous 4xAC5 mauler" but then I realized that sadly it propably is Mauler because we will have 4/5xAC5 Daishis... and with plenty of ammo and secondary weapons. I can feel AC5 and AC10 ghost heat coming up.

[steinerEncoding] Don't worry, fellow Steiners. I'm kidding about the defecting thing. I plan to capture one in a raid on a Kuritan smuggling ship when they come out. [/steinerEncoding]

Don't need to Defect for mauler they where released in 3038 when it was called the Daboku, and the Federated Comonwealth Salvaged alot of them in the war of 3039. its the reason hawk had one in the cartoon series.

So even though it looks like a hole in the assault weight class, by that hteory we get a medium next?
They also said Mauler was being worked on in art which I guess means 3 months or so judging by previous concept art releases etc?
Any thoughts?

P.S. Banshee and Charger look lame on paper... cann't see how they can be cool in MWo compared to already released mechs.

Russ clearly stated in twitter that we're gonna have an assault mech in march. Probably it was a little give-away but looked much more reasurring compared to Bryan's more kind of avoiding the question type of answer.
And I agree about Mauler. Bryan talked freely about it just because it will be released in far future. Looks like they have this gap right now caused by Saber mechs. This means that if they release assault mech in march and going to release IS mechs further alongside with Clan mechs, we will have Mauler somewhere in september.

Pillager: 3rd non-Hero variant in 3064 (and requires Stealth Armor and IS ER Medium Lasers)
Emperor: 3rd non-Hero variant in 3069 (and requires IS RAC/5s)
Nightstar:3rd non-Hero variant in 3065 (and requires an IS UAC/20 and an IS LB 20-X)
So, the chances of seeing any of those in-game in the near future are basically non-existent.
