If I wasn't too busy dying horrible deaths on the battlefield I might have seen this contest.
Did anyone suggest a garage door opener, CB Radio, "Caution, Pug On Board" warning diamond or "Back in 5 Minutes" sign for all the AFKers?
...back to dying...patch is done.

First they picked winners that I mostly don't like (I can deal with that). But they implemented "Community Suggested Cockpit Items" that didn't win. What the hell.
They never indicated that winning entries would necessarily be made into in game items. The winners merely represent PGI's tastes / entries that were particularly eye catching on the first few pages. I, for one, really appreciate PGI's minimalist approach here. Not only are these low poly models easy on the frame rate, but think about all the time they've saved by making four cockpit items with textured geometric primitives. Think about how many man hours they've conserved for important things like community warfare, UI fixes and making it so players can turn the game off without waiting for a CTD or going through the task manager.
But seriously, I support PGI's decision to use entries as minimally viable as possible, and hope that they can spare some of their well earned time to fix the severe frame rate drops people experience when their view is being jerked around by impacts and / or filled with steam and explosions. (Yes, those are some pretty effects, but lately I've been more into games with frame rates better than myst.)

Jeez I almost started to answer this. Thats how bad I feel. Yea...
I also like that new retro UI style - reminds me old good DOS-era.
Minimalism and retro-style - thats what we like devs for...

Well you were certainly not the first to suggest the lava lamp, but maybe you were in that thread. Grats.

Yea, I was one of the first 2 or 3 to suggest the Plasma ball and got one myself. They are pretty nice.

It looks great on my Boar's Head dash, because every 100 ton terror machine needs a puppy in the cockpit.

I did not actually get a lava lamp, despite first suggesting it in 2012. I think I feel a little hard done by.
Maybe I should write a whiny letter to the devs begging for a freebie? Or an angry letter? Or an angry whiny letter?
They always go down well.
