I don't know why, but I seem to be taking command without trying during matches. I could be running and jumping, maybe shooting, and BAM! I have command? For why?

I've noticed the same thing. Sometimes it was company command, sometimes just lance command. Weird. One more bug for the list. Or maybe it's a feature.

There seems to be a hot key type function for it. I stumbled across what it actually is a week or two ago but can't remember.

Also for me. In my case is when I use jumpjets.... sometimes team command, sometimes lance command

Hmm, I thought it was at first, but there is no such key in the keyboard settings.

But it always seems to occur when I push a button, appearingly regardless of if I had already pushed it before or not...

I have this as well. I thought maybe it was happening whenever I was the first to spot an enemy I would automatically get company command. But then it would happen later in the match, too, and sometimes lance command. Sometimes it will switch to another person; I thought this was random, too, but then that person issued an order, so maybe I was not showing up as commander for anyone else but me.

I'm pretty much experiencing this. I don't know what triggers it, but it seems to occur with my normal driving patterns, so if I had any idea how it gets triggered so easily, I'd let you know.

It seems to be triggered through hitting "A" at times (but what commander type I get, I have no idea what does what), while I drive the mech.

It could be one of these:

1) The game does reassign leadership when the current leader dies.

2) Some players take leadership at the beginning of a match to prevent others from rearranging lances during the prep screen and relinquish it once the game starts.

3) A player's connectivity is registering the commander as dead.

4) A leader relinquishes command and the game auto-assigns it to someone else.

5) Yet another bug.

After some further drops I've observed the following:
1) For me, it's definitely activating jumpjets that triggers it.
2) It usually only occurs if no one has taken command yet at all, even to "prevent others from taking command," but if someone in another lance has taken company command, it might give me lance command.
3) It usually happens before anyone dies.
4) Anyone else on the team or in the lance can take the command away from me by actually clicking on take command, so I still don't think I'm showing up as a commander to anyone else but myself.

I'm seeing it again too and I have not been able to isolate the conditions causing it. King's observations above seem accurate to me.

I've started having this occur occasionally, and it seems to occur most often when I've been checking the scoreboard (tab) to see who's still alive, but I haven't paid enough attention to see if that's the only time it happens.

Edit: I've very carefully gone through several games now without pushing tab until after I've died. I do not seem to get... a field promotion... in those games. Previously I was getting it almost every game. Again, this is shaky information at best, and would need to be tested by several others to see if this pattern holds true.

This happened to me in a game last night. I had no idea how or why it happened. I'm happy to see I'm not alone.

So, after quite a bit of messing around, I am now convinced that, at least for me, this issue is directly connected to my use of the tab key. I have gone through many games without using tab and not had it occur, verses games where I forget, press tab, and am promoted usually about 10 seconds later.

I remapped target lock to TAB, the issue for me seems to be landing after using jets. I'm starting to think it may be different for each type of keyboard.

Hmm, well, I suppose it just couldn't be so simple. For reference, I use a Sidewinder X4. I suppose there could be some differences between keyboards having to do with how the keys etc are mapped out, but it should still be sending the same code for the key press to the game. Tomorrow I'll play some matches with mechs without jumpjets and see how that works out.
