You didnt have to redeem anything to get the xmas tree or any of the cockpit items that were given out for participating in the "X wins for whatever" promotions they had before. So therefore theres nothing different now other than as soon as its fulfilled you get it rather than waiting till the end of the period, if you recall the counters on your account under the achievements or whatnot tab always updated in real-time before. Do you think they then went through a database of account numbers before and manually or separately created a program to award the items? No they just did it at the end of the period.

Also so youre saying just because each other time they only awarded one item rather than multiple they couldnt have given you two? You really are special. If they could inject a single item they could inject multiple, they just would add a second section of code that is identical to the one for the first item but contains the parameters for the second.

This UI has done nothing to change any of this, the counting of wins was not and still is not done through the UI, its server side and still handled how it was before. The new UI doesnt handle items being added to the account any differently then before either.

That is exactly the point. They were unable to provide bundles previously, which is why you only got one item and couldn't get mech + mech bay. This is what UI 2.0 is giving you. A free mech and mech bay.

Exactly. Previous challenges like this could be completed on Friday, and you had to wait until the next patch to receive the item/reward. Shoot, sometimes you had to wait a couple days to even see how the challenge was going on the website, lol...

Besides it's better for PGI's image if everyone can get the reward, even newbies or people that end up on the loosing side all the time (remember it'll take some people like 15-20 matches to get their Centurion even if they are not bad players per se)...

I'm of a different mindset. I will take free things all day long, but earning them means immensely more to me than getting it handed to me for participating. I love the idea Bryan talked about in the latest NGNG podcast where you could earn a mech through the achievement system, but if they are going to give one away for five wins over almost as many days, it takes all of the achievement out of the challenge.

I am all for it, and will enjoy the mech as I have only used trial centurions up until now, but I would rather feel a sense of accomplishment for being challenged, or it be just a true "thank you for playing" gift up front, than given the line "meet this challenge" without an actual challenge involved.

this is awesome generally. especially for newbies, as mediums are the best mechs for newbies but they rarely choose mediums.
but personally i've already mastered all centurions, including the YLW.
therefore my question:
is it possible to exchange this for ANY other thing? like, for example, a (lighter, cheaper) Spider or Cicada Champion Mech?

Win five matches, of any type, with any mech(s), during the time period, and you get it automatically added to your account.

Also, don't like your own post - it's against the forum rules (or at least makes you look less than genuine)

It takes a bit for the website to realize you have earned it, once it has, any kind of refresh to your game (resetting or coming back from a match or the like) will inject it automatically - just have to win 5 matches of any kind (which is also tracked under https://mwomercs.com...type=challenges)
