2 Cents From A Returning Player

I haven't been playing MWO for a few months and decided to play a few games today.
I was like, "oh a couple of new maps, and there's the Griffin available, maybe I could have some fun".
But no.
I can't even complain about balancing issues, because the current state of the game is horrible. The new UI sucks.
In the mechlab, I can't see armor values of all mech parts at once. There's hundereds of icons and tiny numbers indicating what's owned. Readability of current tonnage etc is horrible, too. While I spent lots of time in the mechlab in UI 1.x, I barely managed to re-configure my cicada with the new UI. It's just annoying overall. One of my major complaints about Final Fantasy XIV is, that you can't switch the inventory from icon to list view. Now MWO has icons, too. Damnit, I'm an adult, I can read, I don't need a friggin' picture book.
I also tried to buy a mech. No categories for light/medium/heavy/assault mechs? No friggin' preview of the default loadout of the mechs? I can't even see the number of hardpoints of the mech I'm buying? I have to alt-tab and look it up in a wiki? Sorry, no sale today (would have bought with C-Bills anyways, not going to spend money on this mess of a game soon).
Alright, so I had to Alt-Tab. This triggered a bug. In the next couple of games, mouse grab didn't work properly. The mouse pointer wouldn't vanish. I have a dual monitor setup. So in the heat of the battle, you're aiming, click to fire, and BAM... The game miniminzed because I clicked on my second monitor.
I really had a lot of fun with MWO in the past. But anyone spending hundereds of dollars for anything in this game in it's current state must be nuts ($500 clan packages, seriously? Someone apparently didn't understand the F2P micropayment idea. I'd pay $5 for a mech. At that price, you probably would sell thousands, but MC prices were always too high).
So... after a long break and having good memories of MWO, this is my "from zero to ragequit in just 2 hours" post.
Maybe I'll check out (CHECKOUT, LOL) the game again in another couple of months.

You're both wrong.
Click the Mech Lab tab. Once there, in the upper left there is a Filter option. Click it and change it to Purchasable. Along the left side will be the categories (All, Light, Medium, Heavy, Assault, Champion, Hero). If you can't see those options, you're blind as a bat and shouldn't be playing any game, period.
Anyway, to see a preview of each 'Mech, hover your mouse over the 'Mech for a couple of seconds and there will be a flyout to the right. It will show what hardpoints there are (not their locations though) and the default loadout. This does not work in the Store tab.
In the lower left corner it shows how many Mech Bays you have and how many are empty, as well as your MC and C-Bill balances.
Once you click Buy on a 'Mech, the Name screen will come up, and then you can choose to pay with MC or C-Bills.
If you think $500 is bad, check these out.
And $5 for a 'Mech? At the best price, it's $1 for 250 MC. Any 'Mech that costs 1250 MC or less is less than $5. That covers all of the non-Hero lights. Several of the mediums are close to that price too. If you think MC prices for 'Mechs are bad, remember that WoT has $60 tanks.

Exactly, and why would you ever want to see it in the Store. Oh, wait, thats the most important place for it! Seems that they forgot to test this in the most important place!

But not on all screens, such as home. Personally I dont see what was wrong with it always in the footer area like in the old UI.

I'm pretty sure he said that 500 was too high in his opinion for what is being offered. He didnt ask how this relates to any other game. So what if they require mortgages in some other game, 500 of the clan crap is too high. That was the point, so leave the extraneous other stuff out of it if you want to white knight PGI.

Nobody demands money from you, just control your impulses and don't give them any. All those clan-shinies will be buyable with c-bills at some point.
Also: this is something close to the 2487th topic started pointing out the exact same things, it's not gonna change anything.
They know, by now, that their precious UI sucks balls and needs a lot of work. I bet they knew before they gave it to us.
With a little patience it might improve...maybe...sometime in the future...

reading the changelogs or "known issues" helps avoiding headaches...

And the Price Managment is really hardcore.
I dont see a future for this game, there were so many Features and Goals promised and nothing is ready now or in the near future. I mean, if i want to play a mechgame in arenas for fun, i can play hawken, there atleast u get some items for free and the price managment is much better.
Sorry, but this game is still a fail.

I'm explaining and comparing rationally, not white knighting. I don't agree with everything they do, but I will defend them when I think they're right, or at least, not-wrong.
Everybody that complains about the $500 Clan packages don't seem to realize that you don't have to purchase them. It's not like they are the only way to get the Clan 'Mechs. They are simply there as options for those who have excess money and want to spend it on MW:O. Complainers should be THANKING these people that have deep pockets, because they are paying for your free to play game.
Also, they told us months ago that UI2.0 would be released in an unfinished and buggy form initially. Guess what ... they were right!

You should read this. March brings DirectX 11 mode and the Achievement system. April brings the Launch Module, including lobbies and private matches. Is that not "near future" enough for you?

2. The UI still sucks for the reasons stated above. DirectX or an achievement system doesn't help it feeling cluttered and unintuitive. How can somebody defend a user interface where you're unable to see what you're going to buy? Yeah, it's nice that I can mouseover the mechs in my hangars and see their loadout, but as I stated, I came here after a break to check out new stuff. New stuff = new Mechs (and maps). About filters, how intuitive is it to go to the Mech Lab and change some filter to "Purchasable" instead of clicking the bright, shiny "Store" button when trying to buy a new mech?
I don't get it. In UI 1.x, I could press the button to purchase a new mech, got a category list for light/medium/heavy/assault/hero mechs, could click on any mech to show its loadout and cost and buy it for either MC or C-Bills. THAT was non-confusing, intuitive, easy.
3. Constantly losing focus due to clicking on the second screen in fight is a serious showstopping bug. Yeah, I know, I can pull the second screen and everything will work fine. And we'll get DirectX 11 and an Achievement system in March. Yay!

The arrangement of the elements makes NO SENSE AT ALL, my cursor has to travel from one side of the screen to the other constantly.
Why are the icons/equipement pics so friggin big while all text is so small?
Why are the prompt buttons when saving or buying something so small?
Where is the paperdoll/overview in mechlab?
Why do i need to go into configure to see what my selected mech has loaded or if theres modules on it?
I could go on for ages...

Anyone ever noticed how everyone says "be back later" instead of "I'm never coming back"? Like, literally EVERYONE?
Issues or not, PGI has a helluva core game on their hands. You can't deny it.

This game is 2.5 years out from first line of code. In reality, EVERY game takes this long - indeed, much longer - to reach stability.

I didn't deny that. Heck, I even gave it another try and that lost-mouse-focus didn't occur again. I also bought that Griffin, and switching the Mechlab Mech list to "Purchasable" from "Owned" actually helped finding stuff. I'd still expect to buy a Mech after clicking on that "STORE" button instead of switching a tiny option in the Mech lab.

Warning random ranting ahead! >_<
I have gone from 60~100fps to a marginal 20~40fps with tons of random stuttering that makes the game unplayable for all intents and puproses. I am running a GTX 680 w/ 4GB and an 8-Core Amd clocked at 4.4Ghz btw and yes, I have read the and tried all the fixes that work around the low=high settings, hell even ran repair tool after the second match. My rig runs all my other games at 1080p with high settings at 120+ fps with out issue and they are far more complex so what the hell gives?
The new UI is a convoluted mess that requires to many clicks to do just about anything. And the fact that the escape key will not return us one level up in the hierarchy of this mess is an oversight of epic proportions. Seriously the original TT game perfected the mech user interface back in the 1980's, how the hell can this keep getting worse?!? Look at smurfy... pure, easy managable bliss, why don't we have a simple "usable" interface? And for the love of god bring back the mech garage at the bottom of the screen that was in UI 1.0+.
Hit detection is still broken, there is often no indication that I am taking damage, srms are still useless and for the love of god why do I keep loosing my dual LBX-10 on my Atlas when I still have 95% of my armor and no areas exposed? Still have the random screen freezes that require alt+tabbing out of the game and back to fix, which let me tell you, is a great way to end up dead. Random disconnects when fighting are always fun too.
I want to like this game... There is tons (lol tons) of potential here and I've been a fan of Battletech sinse the original FASA days and through all the video games since... but it just seems like this has grown into an unmanagable monster where it is more important to push out new mechs than trying to fix existing problems. I would complain about matchmaker but after 5 games of lag and stuttering infested suckfest (and two disconnects) I didn't stick around long enough to find out if it is any better yet.
