Hey OP, keep telling yourself the game will get better with balancing and new features.

This game is kept alive by hope and optimisim.

When a team I am on or fighting against has 3 or more champion mechs, the MM has failed.

I'll keep you low opinion of me in mind when I'm running around in the (C) Stalker that I've grown to really like ;)

Ugh, that thing is the WORST champion design they have come up with.

Literally a death trap for new players.

Well, on an open drop game...a 50% loss ratio is just about right. ;)

You're assuming every time you see one it's a new player.

Either that, or someone who is terribly misguided and thinks a Stalker with an XL is a good idea.

I'm tied for best W/L ratio (2) and the Trial Stalker has my best KDR (3.0) of any 'Mech I've piloted to date.

It's ideal for sitting just behind everyone else and streaming Art-IV 15's in chainfire mode until whatever you hit explodes from sheer overload, then repeat. It is a HORRIBLE new player Mech and pretty much contravenes any normal Stalker protocols, but it's a workhorse for what it's meant to do.

I had one of those parked with me in my 'Phact-2X and between the two of us, we got eight of the 12 kills for the match- and with assists, we ended up damaging 10 of them at least. Only reason we didn't hit a few is because I think they got blown apart so early in the match, we weren't in a decent firing position.

how to not hate mwo:

take a mech with missile slots
insert 2x LRM 10 or higher with at least 6 tons of ammo
press R when red triangle appears to form a box
Aim at red box
wait for circles to go red
FIRE
you are now playing MWO 10x less frustratingly

Finally a forum question I feel qualified to answer...

I have a lot of fun playing the game, despite a KD ratio much worse than yours, and a similar win/loss ratio though many more games played.

Proof:

So here's how to make it fun:
  • Try all the mechs. If you're a dedicated fan of the board game, don't take for granted that the mechs that worked well in that game work well in this one. I have given almost every chassis a chance (though admittedly many of those were trial mechs - I only own 42 mechs as of this moment). In some cases, one version of a particular mech chassis has been horrible but another version was really great.
  • Play around with the mech lab. In my experience, that's more than half the fun. As a general rule I dislike most of the posted configurations online (smurfy for example), so I really enjoy moving things around. I'm not sure how well you know the original board game rules, but if you haven't seen them you can pick them up at a local hobby store pretty cheap. There's a comic book store near my house that has a 'used gaming' bin, and the tech manual / compendium / master rules are typically $5 to $10. You can also buy them new online. The construction rules are basically the same in every version of the rules, with added equipment as you get further in the timeline. MWOMERCS follows the construction rules directly, so it's good reading material on how the different equipment works.
  • Stick around after you die to watch the rest of the match progress. Offer tips to players (switch between cockpits and see how everyone is doing - sample quick tips include "Joe in C5 needs LRM support quick", or "hey ECM locust get over to F3 and protect from LRM barrage, or "3 guys coming through tunnel, just killed our atlas").
  • Try not to get killed by anyone with "x" in their name. This is a personal thing of mine, but I can't be the only one. Examples would be XxPilotNamexX, or xxPilotxxNamexx, or PilotNameXX. When I get killed by someone with that name I typically quit for the night. I've come to imagine these guys as overweight neck-beard late twenty-somethings living in their parents' basement and surviving on 3 day old delivery pizza, but I'm probably being too harsh. More likely that they are only 12 (hence the appeal of all the letter 'X', like 'Racer X' in Speed Racer, but they sprinkle in a few extra because they're that much cooler with 4 'X' instead of 1). Either way, as a bad pilot I get killed by a lot of other pilots - these just particularly get under my skin. If your armor has been eroded, go find a better named pilot so you're not embarrassed in the chat window when it announces who killed you.
  • Get your friends to play. I have a couple of other friends that play as well. We don't play in a group (our combined horrible Elo would probably break the match maker), but when we get together IRL we have plenty of war stories to tell about one match or another.
  • Enjoy the general chat. Nothing beats armchair commentary from dead players. I frequently hear harsh criticism from dead players (they're the ones with [dead] next to their name) telling the rest of us how horrible we are. I'm aware I'm horrible, but I chuckle when the dead guy points it out. He recognizes my poor skills but doesn't recognize his own - maybe if he hadn't charged headfirst in his ECM Raven into a giant group of opponents he'd have lived longer - especially since the rest of us were too slow to keep up. My favorite question: "So tell us how we can be great pilots like you were in those first 2 minutes of the game". Sometimes they miss the sarcasm and try to answer. You can repeat those answers to yourself in the office tomorrow and laugh to yourself while everyone else wonders what is so funny.
  • Bucket list: Burn down an assault with flamers. I threw six of them on one of my Battlemasters once and it was great fun. I burned an Atlas down with just the flamers (we took turns shutting down, and since I had the improved shutdown/startup unlocked, I came out ahead). The players spectating my screen enjoyed it too.
  • Bucket list: Shoot down a spider/jenner in mid jump. Hopefully they will fall a great height, like in Alpine Peaks. PGI did a great job on this - the spider will complete the jump smoking and slide along the ground after it hits. It's awesome.
  • Bucket list: Try an Atlas with 2x LB10x in one side torso and 2x SRM6 Artemis in the other. put them all on one fire group. I killed a hunchback that way in one shot and the guy responds 'what the hell was that?'.
From your original message it sounds like much of the reason you're not having fun is because you're not winning. I'm sorry to say I can't offer any advice in that department. While I have plenty of wins now, they haven't been the majority and many of them just feel like luck. I do believe that if you like a game, it's fun whether you're winning or not. And if that's not the case for you, maybe it's just time to move on.

Yep. My LRM 'Phract:
CATAPHRACT CTF-2X W/L 35 /17 (2.06) K/D 55 /31 (1.77)

2 LRM 15's + Artemis, 2 MPLs. Plays remarkably well, and I stay mellow whilst the rain comes down upon the wicked and the just alike.

Dear OP,

Your expectations of this game are unrealistic. You're basically telling us you want to win every match playing solo. You may not be the most experienced pilot but if you want to win, find some lancemates on vent. Also if you wanna start winning you need to be prepared to deal with losses and learn from them.
