From the opening of Duke Nukem Forever (The 1 and only DN Game I own and played):

PGI is the answer!

Piranha Games specifically only handled the game's multiplayer mode, and have nothing to do with the game's infamous release delay or it's single player. (I haven't played the DNF multiplayer so I don't know how terrible that is)

What in common?

I dunno... A slew of ill-informed low-information stalkers who continue to drudge up factually incorrect nuggets from the past in a continuous failed attempt to sully PGI and draw parallels where there is none?

Lets flip your question...

Let's list some of the bad games developed by the self proclaimed untouchable developers and or publishers and or major screws up they never recovered from:

- Blizzard: Diablo III
- Valve: Ricochet, Left 4 Dead
- Gearbox: Aliens: Colonial Marines
- ID: Rage

The list goes on... The problem is with folks like you, it doesn't fit the agenda to recognize the reality that game development is wrought with hits and misses... even by the big boys.

Actually Valve has pretty well recovered with Evolve now (the amount of people wanting it now is astounding). Blizzard has had issues since forever because WoW is getting old. But they recovered easily from Diablo 3 because of Star Craft HotS which sold almost as many copies as Wings of Liberty which holds the world record for the fastest selling Strategy game. Gearbox.. I can agree easily there. Colonial Marines sucked. Actually Rage was extremely popular getting an average rating of 80/100.

Yet you level that PGIs past should be a viable barometer to gauge whether MW:O has a chance to succeed?

Best MechWarrior title to date, and people still say it's not enough.

/sigh

Of course not - the nostalgia filters are strong with that one.
(note: "that one" not being aimed at any one particular as right now I cannot remember which of us has played the older ones, and thus which ones the nostalgia filters would even be applicable to)

Wrong the most popular MW game to date is MW2:31 Century Combat.

Only until we sit down to play it again and realize that it was so poorly balanced so as to make MWO look like the scale the planets sit on.

Oh, please, someone say it was Mechwarrior 4.... i dare you.
How anyone can blast PGI for the multi-player tack on for DNF and laud the multi-player for MW4 in the same breath makes me launch the spittake of all spittakes.

No one has what?
Played Mech2?

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I do.

As for the rankings of those websites - you do realize they are payed for what they rank games?

As for the rankings: You do realize they are just as reliable as anything else in his world?

As reliable as my own experiences?
(or perhaps: another persons?)

To give an example: what did they rate Assassin's Creed?

I personally found it unplayable - I cannot even get out of the tutorial sections without it glitching out (IE: buttons doing what other buttons are supposed to do)
When I tried to get a hold of support for it, I was accused of pirating the game. (despite the fact that I had a registered copy, and even offered to send them the receipt from the store I bought it at)

I now look at all those websites that told me that it was one of the best games ever - and I take what they wrote with a grain of salt.
I look now at how they phrase it - and quite frequently I can tell if they are rating it the way they are because that is how they feel about it, or if they are rating it because they feel they need to (for whatever reason) rate it that way (high or low)

The point being: you are holding them up as and saying "look see! they say it's bad!"
We are saying "yes, and how trustworthy is what they say?"

If you feel they are trustworthy then by all means keep holding them up.
But if you do NOT feel they are trustworthy, then you are only undermining your own cause when you hold them up as an example they way you are.

Because there is a board of people who are payed by the gaming companies and reactionary nerds to rate them.

FTFY.

So we know you do trust them - just keep in mind that we (or at least I) do not.
(Ass-Ass-inn's Creep was by far not the first so called "AAA" title to burn me)

Of course now even reading the reviews on most of those sites, they read as
"It is way awesome, there just isn't enough to it!"

It is, which is why they are still around.

But better is paying attention to what games they rate, how they rate them, and especially how they write the reviews.

IE:
They may give MWO a low number - but the review actually pastes it as a far above average game
(even compared to the usual "AAA" title)

I am SO surprised to hear you say that! I never would have guessed that your opinion on something PGI did would be negative.

Well, smartass, I actually played a fair bit of Duke Nukem Forever online. I've played a TON of online FPS games and well, DNF's netcode was... well, bad. What do you think this is? The land of rose colored glasses? I could lie and say it was great, but, well that would be a lie.

Don't you have something better to do than troll?

I provided honest to goodness feedback to the OP, on topic with the thread. You? I'm sure the moderating team will love to see your post.

I'm not trolling. In fact, it's more fair to say you were baiting with your comment about how the netcode in DNF was "deplorable". And to justify your assessment to that, you said it was because you played the game.

Did you play DNF much online? Did you?

I did. Often enough to provide honest, player feedback.
