dear game devs......is your host state rewind broken or is it purposefully set to give high ping people a handicap. I admit its a nice system to have, balancing latency issues so everyone can have a good fight...but sometimes it is so bad that it hurts.
i'll give an example, a recent one.....terra therma, skirmish, we are rolling around the craters edge getting a good position on a separated enemy lance, I see the mech, then the triangle appears, lock and suddenly without ANY graphic or projectile, BAM my shoulders got no armour....i pull back a few shots hit the mountainside in front of me, there goes some leg and arm armour.
these shots hit the MOUNTAIN not my mech, by the gaming gods this should mean i dont get murdered after i've retreated beyond their firing capability, but apparently NO this is wrong and because I dont have a sparkling rig of glory nor do i sit by the servers I like many other higher ping players MUST be punished for our transgressions.
is there a problem with this or is it working properly because if it is then the moment i see pings below 100 i know i am dead and they will get away with very little damage from me unless I am very lucky or its a particularly poor pilot.
seriously though i've had shots that land on target, their paint job melts the explosion flares from their torso hulls and nothing happens or it hits an arm or a leg, no wonder people are having to beat each other to death with lrm-boats, streaks or maximum alpha shots (dual gauss/ac40/ppc boats).
I'm running out of patience and these little things are the most annoying, it makes my game dull to suddenly be crippled when shots apparently miss me on my screen but actually no they hit you square in the face and we'll just let you think you got away.

He shot at where he thought you were, where apparently the server thought you were, and due to your ping/latency issues YOU thought you were somewhere else...
You want to punish the other guy?
You do realize that if that was the policy, the e-peen crowd would all artificially choke their band width to get an advantage... Right?

as for your answer factorlanp, my recent demise to HSR ment that I saw a mech without ecm, just his cockpit and part of his torso (not enough to show any guns) and suddenly i loose a shoulder, so apparently he had an advantage that i didnt as he was obviously capable of firing his guns and i couldnt see this.
when it comes to the location of the shots, not even I had been that close to their impact location.... let alone him shooting at where he though/saw my mech.

I don't think there's anything "wrong" with it but it does make it difficult for high latency and ping players to play at times. I've also noticed firing weapons in quick succession results in my reticle not lighting up showing a hit but the end of match damage results indicate the enemy was still taking damage.

You know like a West coast, Central or hell even a server in America or the UK etc.
For a shooter and this is a shooter at its base the hit detection is the first priority. I don't know or care how PGI's HSR works but what I do know is that when my ping is over 150 hit detection sucks.
HSR seems to be a cheap software attempt at a fix for not having local servers ?
I am in Northern California with the best ISP available to me and I have pings of sub 50 in most shooters not 120-180 like this game.
It is a problem for those who play shooters.

Just remember, high ping goes both ways... you probably aren't noticing the times it's saving your butt.

Does that mean you use your cell phone service to play, or are you a cybernetic organism?

So you are wrong OP. With a high ping comes a significant advantage, at least in terms of damage you receive as a fast mech. I only dream of a nice high, variable ping to give my lights the armor of an assault.

I spend so much time using my smartphone for things that I feel a bit cybernetic, but alas! No myomer muscles or infrared sensor implants yet.
I do use my 4G phone to play, because we can't get cable or DSL where I live.

I wouldnt say i'm wrong about my original post because if i was I wouldnt be getting all this crap happening to me in the first place, however they have tweaked the spiders hit detection so its not a jolly trollbot anymore.
