Peaked in 9th with my trusty 5M modified poptart by replacing one ppc with an er large for tagging, but dropped to 15th by Sunday. Fought a bloody battle back up to 11th and 9 points shy of 10th with an oddly effective 4 streak, 2 mlas, AC10 build on the 2D2. I wanted top 50, pretty stoked about how far I got.

It was great fun climbing over all of your battered corpses, and watching the QQ ensue when matches frequently started, continued and ended with artillery and airstrikes. Until next time, you horrible lot :P

First so called tourney I have done with this company and so far I don't see the point other than to get more players to grind or conform to the meta.

Scoring as in the game rewards the meta.
No game limit rewards the grinders.

Does PGI want MWO to known as a meta grind game?

Well I had a blast, thanks for running this and congrats to all the winners.
To be honest only went in the event just out of curiosity as I am not very big on this sort of thing but was curious as to how
I size up in the big scheme of things I this game as a pilot.

My final result was a bit of a shock and a surprise, I played about an hours worth of drops between gaps in training with my unit
while doing my usual 900+ dmg 4+ kills etc which I thought was common for one of my builds from the talk I see around here.
but never winning. this had me at 15th an I thought I might give this a real crack.

On the second day once the Europeans had posted their numbers I only slipped one place, an it took just 3 consecutive big wins to reclaim and set a buffer, an I left it at that though about other chassis but was chuffed with how well I did.

One final shout out to all the Kintaro pilots I crossed sights with or managed to drop it he same lance with. there was no douschebaggery from what I could see and the 2 I did drop with in the same lance while we gave it our all we wern't {Richard Cameron} to each other. tough I think I did upset ALOT of light pilots as they took up the bulk of my kills

Were you running an XL? I remember catching a duel with you the other day and thinking oh crap its the #1 Kintaro pilot and jamming down on the dakka while hoping for the best

You probably know better than me...but I'm highly skeptical that they kept to their "fun" builds when the pressure was on...

I was actually trying all sorts of new builds during the tournament as I got more and more desperate. It was only in the last hour that I gave in and started playing the HBK-4P.

All in all, it was a hectic, but fun weekend.

Sssshhh that's my standard build! Don't let the secret out! :-p

On a more serious note, I find it works well as a trooper mech because it can handle all situations reasonably effectively. It strikes me as being more in the "spirit" of tabletop (ie: not min/maxed to hell and back)

Note: I'm a horrible Shadowhawk player.

Two of my highlights from this weekend involve you and Alpine:

1) Legging the Firestarter that was chasing you when I saw your "help" message in chat

2) Coring that d-bag 4x Cataphract who waited, shut down, til the end of the match so that he could finish off a weakened team and ***** the kills.

All in all, this weekend was sort of "Twilight Zone"-ish. People were just being weird and crazy and I loved it.

Anyways, I am tired and can only Hunch it out for so long. I'll have to settle with top 50 for tonight... and watch it slide downhill for the next day or so :-)

I made it to 79th and my finger was starting to hurt from me cutting it on a straight blade side of a mat cutter on Thursday. Too much aggravating it.

I was forced to run it because I was dropping against really evil players who weren't above blocking a killing shot, or stealing kills. Many games were fought with 9/12 Mechs being mediums and all of them mobbing the first poor sod who broke away from the enemy group. I lost a couple of really game changing moments on HPG Relay because of people doing that, and in the end I was not above throwing artillery strikes down on hurt Mechs to shoot over people who had deliberately parked in front of my face. On Sunday I experienced a massive level of prickery going on among my team mates which made me quite angry, and it wasn't until the last hour or so where only the hardcore players were left that the spirit of good sportsmanship showed its head.

My greatest mistake was not locking my game select to conquest sooner. I was dropping against Edmeister etc. in about half my matches until it dawned on me that I could probably lock myself out of those games. The match maker threw a fit trying to find a CONQUEST game each time but that's how I crawled back up to 11th in the last leg of the tournament.

Ah, the metagame. Yes, Metaweapons are great but you know what?
If you really want a challenge;
Play like heimdelight with his gauss + ERLas (?) Victor
Cyborx with his 1Ac2 1ERLas 3xLRM5 Troll Centurion
TFun90 with his Dual AC2 BJ-1
and the countless other players in the top10 I forgot to mention
Those people could have performed much better but they opted not to and go for fun instead.

I made it to #3 in Heavies in a Firebrand and Dual-Gauss CTF before I went for the CTF-3D with dual AC5/PPC. In fact, my best heavy scores were made with the Jaegermech.

Just proves that regardless of whatever the "meta" is said to be a skilled pilot is a skilled pilot.

Skilled piloting is the new meta :P

BTW well done sir

Dwarf fan?

SHD 2H with 2xac2 and uac5, all three fired grouped on FSWG mouse 1 and the 2's grouped on mouse 2 for when the ultra jams. xl275 and lots of ammo

I wasn't even going to run them because of how hotly contested shads were but I was tired of dealing with the streak spam in lights and I'd been meaning to try it since seeing it in HHoD's "dos hombres" 2x2 tournament. Had a 1200 damage game in a drop or two and decided to focus on it, the last one that put me in 9th was this ridiculous 9 kill, 2 assist @ 980 something. Things a monster.

If it makes you feel better you bumped my Lancemate Kileek out in Grifs :P

I'm finding it's more of a ''Artillery and Air Strikes vs the World'' Tournament.

(Last match my team copped 8 Strikes within the first 4 and half minutes, and as a result, were all dead by the 5th minute.)

I guess 600+ points of damage from spending up on consumables inflates one's ranking considerably.

I hear a lot of complaints about arty. Mostly from people who want to camp out on a hill and snipe without having to be bothered with moving, or by sync drop assault lances that camp in a cluster, dealing death with their meta cheese builds, or sometimes by lights, camped behind a base, waiting for the ticker to change color.

Notice the pattern here...dont like arty? Don't camp.

Remember how campy games were before arty? Now people remind each other not to camp too close to one another, because it invites arty strikes.

At best, an arty strike is going to add 10-15 points to your match score, 100-150 points to your tourney score. And you really want to begrudge someone 10-15 points that they earned by making a camper move his arse?

The funny thing is, the tournament actually had it's own "meta" which was left for the players to figure out. I piloted my Shadowhawks with wildly different builds and used all three chassis to maximise play time. I also had 3 completely different builds on each. The "tournament meta" for me was:

1. Use Artillery and Airstrikes. If your Mech has jets, drop them at your feet to force others to break away from you.
2. Use some form of laser or streaks to reliably tag fast moving Lights to guarantee an assist.
3. Ensure that you have one hard hitting weapon to finish off a damaged opponent before your team mates steal the kill.
4. Do not start a fight. Be the one to finish it.
5. Speed is king, even in favour of heavier weapons. You need to be where the fight begins to score assists and punish badly positioned opponents. You need to be able to escape streak boating Mechs, they may not kill you but they will force you to play defensively for the rest of the match.
6. Make suicidal plays. Figure out a way to escape the entire enemy team after you run into them. There's no point in ending a match alive with only x kills when you need at least x + 1 kills to advance up the ladder.
7. When you inevitably die HORRIBLY, have another Mech ready to jump straight into and do it all again.
8. The more Stalker 3F© Mechs there are on your team, the more likely you are to do well. The more disconnects YOUR team has, the more likely you are to do well. If the enemy team has more than one disconnect, you may as well throw the match.
9. Run every build you can think of, it keeps things fresh, stops you from burning out and you might just learn something new.
10. If no one dies, no one knows it was you who launched that artillery strike...

In general, the "tournament meta" favours faster, more aggressive play since losing a match is synonymous with winning if you don't get enough kills and assists to advance.

I only played the Shads, did I cost him a game? Sorry <_< I ran 3 AC 2s a couple of times but as soon as someone noticed what I was doing, a half dozen lights from the enemy team would descend upon me and I'd get streaked to shreds. I eventually had to run a streak 2D2 to survive the hoards of Edmiester wannabes.

Ahh got you mixed up with Mex. (Insert offcolor joke about all dracs looking alike :P)

Really? I was having no problems with lights, I'm fairly good at calculating lead on the fly and went about shredding legs (though I was still trying to avoid fighting them If I could help it as my precious ammo would yield higher result tearing components from heavier mechs)

Nice theory bro. Unfortunately, you are totally wrong.

In the case I cited, the entire team was retreating in the face of constant arty/air strikes, certainly not camping.

So it had nothing to do with moving entrenched campers. It had everything to do with a team adding points of damage/kills to their tournament scores through use of consumables.

And you know how I know this...? Because I asked them, and they were commendably upfront about what they were doing.

As for 10-15 points: check how the tournament scores were calculated. An arty strike that does splash damage to 8 or so Mechs was 8 extra assists on your tournament score... lots more if yours was the 5th consecutive strike, at which point the splash damage is killing Mechs, not just damaging them. Not insignificant by any means, as others have noted above.

Notice the pattern here? Your theory was wrong on all counts. But thanks for the gratuitous accusations and misinformation.

In any case, (some) players used legitimate consumables to get higher scores. Nothing unusual or wrong about that. But personally I didn't find ArtyWarrior Online particularly enjoyable to play.

I think this would be better served to have a game limit. Say 25 games over the a week long period. Instead what we got was a grind fest this weekend. I barely played (Think less than 20 games total) My first ten games I had 32 kills and countless assist.

Two different tournament types, one for the weekend play monsters, one week long cap one, that shows who really is pretty damn good. Hell Even some round robin tournaments would be sweet.

Anyways congrats to all those that made top in all the categories this weekend.

The worst expirience at this tournament is to get 7 kills 1 assist and 750 DMG die, lose and see that it doesnt count. But top 10 pilots have seen even worse I think. When you have score over 2400 than probably 3 kills 7 assists and 1300 DMG wont count if you loose.

I only had 3 games over 1000 during the tournament. My best game was a win, surviving, 1274 damage with 6 kills and 5 assists. Sunday at 2:57a.m. EST I launched and got a match at 3 a.m. EST and put up 1125 damage with 4 kills and 6 assists with a win and survived... it did not count... PGI MM trolled me there at the end haha. It was a hell of a grind though, as PUGgin is excruciatingly painful.

So where is this list of winners and when do I get my free Mechbay?!

You would have to be mental to not see the value in equipping one of each to boost your score. My best strike flat out killed two Mechs in a group of 5 who I ran into by accident but didn't get into LOS of :P

Interestingly, despite equipping and using both artillery and air strikes for every match I played, I still made enough c-bills to buy two extra seismic modules (12 million) for my Shadow hawks and end the tournament with more money than I begun with.
