No because the High ELO players are VERY GOOD !
Unless... One of them decided to create a new account just for the tourny...
I guess it would be possible have your main mech by burning MC as well...
But is there a point to being a fraud ? We already know who the top players are from that past tournies.. Though many of them may not be playing the game any more.
Not top players doing anything nefarious, just the best players at that low elo level.

10 best wins across unlimited games is at least a little lame, the prizes are pretty lame and even lamer that it's only the top 5 in each class that gets anything. There should at least be a small prize for opting in at all, or maybe a tiny prize for finishing in the top 50%.
I mean, I know I have absolutely no chance of scoring in the top 5 so why even bother opting in? I'm going to anyway out of curiosity but it just seems like a cool opportunity wasted, while if you threw the top 50% a low level prize, even of C-bills, that'd make it worthwhile for all us non pro players to have some fun!

You know what, I think this is actually a GREAT idea for boosting participation of the event and providing a reason to fight for all pilots involved.
Keep the current MC prizes at the top but extend a C-Bill prize down through the rest of the ladder tailing off to a token "Thanks for taking part!" prize all the way to the bottom. Even if the top C-Bill prize was something like 1.5million (enough for most of a standard engine or a double heat sink upgrade) and it tailed off to 100K at the very bottom it would provide an incentive to push on. Have the top 50% get 1 million or more and the drive to play more and play better would be there.
The prize size is enough to help out most newer players but not enough that it cuts into PGI's business model for premium time as it will be spent almost immediately. The top prize being the equivalent of ~15 good matches without premium time.
This prize structure would also drive players to try out every chassis they own in the medium class an at least one in each other class to scoop the largest possible C-Bill bonus. You'd need to play a good 10 games in each to get the top prizes and with more participation that would be a mean feat! I think it unlikely more than a handful would get the top C-Bill prize in each category as you would need to play hundreds of games in different mechs, thus preventing abuse and again debasing PGI's business model.

Thanks. I do think you need to scale the Cbills properly though if you can bounce between every category, otherwise I could come out with enough Cbills to buy a mech, which is probably worth more than the MC prizes are! So maybe slightly smaller rewards, but something extra for those who partcipate but don't rank 5th or better would be awesome!

- Average scores from all your matches, excluding no more than 10 of your worst scores.
Ideally players would need a method to "lock in" their score so that they could play for the rest of the weekend without the fear of tanking a good performance so far I guess you could just switch to another weight class...

From now on track 10 matches in each chassis by variant. So it encourages variant ownership by:
- Each chassis variant has 10 matches.
- You can only play 10 matches that count in that single variant.
- By owning more variants you can play 10 additional matches per variant. (i.e. Owning a Centurion CN9-A, CN9-AL & CN9-D will allot you 30 matches total)
- The game will select your 10 best matches to calculate your wins. Hero mechs do not count towards wins as they are purchasable only with MC. A player may choose to not play additional matches.
- Standard scoring system in place for calculating points. Divide top score by total matches played. (i.e. Centurion player A plays 12 matches and scores 7850 where as Centurion player B scored 9000 by playing 28 matches. Player A ends up with a score of 654 whereas player B scores 321).
- Disconnecting from a match disqualifies you unless you submit a support ticket to prove it was a crash (MWO support systems request game logs which verify this). Disconnecting once dead does not count towards this.
In a suggestion for the prizes.
Top prize: Chassis Hero or Champion mech for the chassis bracket you were playing. Whichever applicable plus a MC reward. (i.e. Centurion bracket player receives YLW, if he owns the YLW he receives the CN9-A(C). If he owns both he will be given the average MC cost between the two in addition to his MC reward).
Second prize: 1/3 of the total MC for the winners bracket (calculated mech MC cost + MC reward) + mech statue cockpit item*.
Third prize: 1/4 of the total MC reward for the winners bracket + mech statue cockpit item*.
*mech statue cockpit item - If there is a statue cockpit item of the mech they won the prize in it's an added consolation prize. i.e. Hunchback gets a Hunchback statue. If there is no statue available it will default to developer choice.
Futher reading:
Hunchback: HBK-4G, HBK-4H, HBK-4J, HBK-4P & HBK-4SP.
Best 10 out of 50 matches.
Trebuchet: TBT-3C, TBT-5J, TBT-5N, TBT-7K & TBT-7M
Best 10 out of 50 matches.
Blackjack: BJ-1, BJ-1X, BJ-1DC & BJ-3
Best 10 of 40 matches.
etc.

If nothing else this gives us a chance to see how they actually balance against one another by looking at the average scores for each chassis once the event is over.
