I wished I could get into a campaign like that! But, sadly, no one really plays BT:TT where I live...

Be grateful - I found a few in my area who do..... and I was better off before I found them

I've got my brother... and that's it... :(

But I know what you mean. I stopped going to my gaming store for Warhammer 40k for a few months because I got tired of seeing everyone else play, but never being invited to play anything... (and one was known for cheating, so I stopped playing with him a LONG time ago...) (And now I occasionally butt in on his games from time to time when I hear him "bending" a rule in his favor, and call him out on it...)

I would love to do 40K with you. If you can handle coming all the way to Wisconsin and freezing for a bit. XD.

I got lucky with 40K, a good chunk of my friends play 40K and they are thankfully Douche-free. We could definitely use an Eldar army, they're the only ones we don't have in our group. Or mechanicus, since you can now do a full mechanicus army. (technically 30K, but still viable in 40K)

Some? There are about 6 of them!
Worst bit was when they started explaining their "House Rules" - you thought Clan tech was unbalanced? Just wait till you've seen it "rebalanced" (because higher damage and lower heat are apparently nerfs of some sort)

I've looked into 40k - way out of my budget - but there is a local group who are at least mostly not "That Guy"

We are getting way off topic though.

Might want to read up on the Yen-Lo-Wang again... http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Yen-Lo-Wang

Also, what you seem to recall about the Yen-Lo-Wang is not what I recall about the Yen-Lo-Wang. Did you by chance read the Warrior trilogy, where the Yen-Lo-Wang was created? As far as I recall, it wasn't "built at the factory that way", but was bought as a used Centurion, then customized in a personal facility. It did cost a lot of c-bills to be altered though, which is why it wasn't a common occurrence (and took a while to do too). (Also, unless I am mistaken, I don't recall him fighting in the arenas till he had the Yen-Lo-Wang. Didn't he create that with his "severance" package? Or funds from the "agents under cover" account? Maybe I should re-read the warrior trilogy, just to be sure...)
congratulations forum readers, you just sat thru a conversation between two mechwarriors comparing wangs.

Man, I played D&D with "THAT GUY"... not fun. Never play with him again. And I got tired of him beating on my characters. (I became the rule monger though, as I got tired of all the slippery rules...)

I have been in two groups with 40k. One was filled with more experienced players, and the cool players left... However, now I'm in another group of new players, and it's been a blast!

I play Tau as my first army, but for 5th edition, I needed a more balanced army (got tired of getting my butt kicked by a single, not a squad, assault marine) I got a rather large space marine army. Now, I'm going Tau and Imperial Guard. I do also own a small Eldar army, but I don't have the new codex...

I would be telling them, we play by the rules (as best we can), or I don't play at all... Wouldn't be the first group I've done that too. One D&D group, I walked out on because they didn't follow rules at all, and I walked out with my rule book... Did I mention it was the ONLY rule book there?

I've seen people spend more on Magic than I do/have on 40k. It's expensive to get into, but overall it isn't too expensive to continue to play. (Plus, I love to model stuff, so for me I do what I love (modeling), and then I get the fun bonus extra of game play! Double win!) I will admit I've spent a lot of money on Warhammer, but it's been worth it to me for the amount of fun I've had. If you are really interested, can always ask if you can get a demo (borrow someone's army and play a match or two) and see if you are even interested... (Can always ask for army advice as well if you find out you like it...)

I tend to do coats of paint between MW:O matches...

Wait. There was an actual topic here? :(

Oh... right. Someone who hasn't even played 25 matches since open beta wants to see if the game is any good, instead of playing and finding out for themselves... B)

But we are so good at being distracted, and going off topic...

If you think that's bad, have you ever walked around the Forest hanging your Wang?
Epic anti-air shot here with a Gauss Wang. at 64.8 kph.

Mixed Wang.

And apparently the wang jokes were so disliked at the time this poor video got a boatload of dislikes.

I really don't know why, it was 4 guys playing around with their Yen Lo Wangs and killing a bunch of stuff.

Warhammer 40k, Battletech TT.

Don't know jack about Warhammer tabletop, but got the computer games (the entire Dawn of war II series and then some) if you're ever interested. Could use someone to help me get started. Far as Battletech tabletop, well I'm looking for more people to play with. Would even like to get into three way missions/campaigns where there's three or more teams with their own interests.

(MWO would be interesting with a third team).

Oh, forgot... I live in New England. Gets cold here too... Temp wouldn't be the problem. Distance though... I don't think even a Basilisk could shoot that far... Are there any local webway gates nearby...?

Tempting - but with my (very!) limited budget I am counting myself (extremely!) lucky to have what games/toys I do have.
(that and I just spent $300+ on a new graphics card....)

I may drop in when they play sometime and see if someone can let me demo - but I can very easily see me getting over-focused (the side of ADD you never really hear about) on it, and I don't have the budget for even a small army.
(been looking at getting some of the rulebooks so I can get some ideas for my own TT game - they get expensive!)

Have read a few of the novels though - Grey Knights and Cain's Last Stand.
Brother picked up GK at a book sale - no idea where CLS came from though..... B)
And I do play the DoW games - just not online

I've got what I think is a hole into the warp somewhere up in the mountains near here..... forgive me for not wanting to explore it though. :(

I have the Dawn of War series (which strangely does well for a generally overview of table top army concepts, but isn't near the same as Warhammer 40k table top either. Similar to BT:TT and MW:O), but no Dawn of War 2.

I would love to join into any BT:TT games... would go crazy for a campaign version. (Still want to do a 40k campaign too, but that hasn't happened yet...)

A 3 team match could be interesting... to say the least. Then you have people shooting each other who might turn on each other... could be very dynamic...
Hopefully it works out better than 40k three way matches. It always seems to be that 2 teams will fight and one will stand to the side, and then clean up the team that survived...

Then, I would see it as I don't need to play with them... Though, sadly, I know that also means it's hard to get another group to play with... Never an easy choice. Is there?

I'm on a fairly small budget, with very little to spare after bills are done with me. (I keep applying for financial aid for any hospital visits, and getting a full 100% coverage of the bills I'm so broke.) I buy a lot of my models after months of saving, and try to get them when a sale is going. I've even been known to buy pre-used and assembled models, normally at half price. If one has experience with E-bay (or the like), I've seen people get some models (used) for amazingly cheap prices. It also depends upon what army you are going for. Space Marines are normally cheap, as they are expensive point cost to field, but cost the same price per squad as most other units. So, for $33 you can get 175 points of marines. (Average matches are 1000-1500 points.) For $75-80 you can have a 500 point list that can work fairly well. A full 1000 point army (HQ and 5 squads of marines) would cost you about $185. But, once you have that, you don't need to "update" them really. They will be good for many many years to come. By them used, and you could probably get them for about $90 (if you can find it). (Not including the killer cost of a Codex, which is $50.)

There is also a nice introduction set of marines and chaos marines (Chaos marines can stand in well for normal marines) $99. Comes with rule book, templates and dice as well. Then, all you would need is a codex to play. (One good thing is with Space Marines, a space marine is a space marine is a space marine. If you go Space Marines, you can grab several different codexes and be able to play for any of them with any marine model. The players there (if they are helpful like they should be) could explain more.

I understand that part of the ADD obsession... I have ADHD myself. I can become VERY obsessive of something. Can you tell? <_<

I've only read three 40K novels, the Eldar Warrior trilogy. Not a bad series. My brother is trying to get me to read the Grey Knight series now... but I have other books I'm reading currently...

Only explore warp holes if you are well blessed and protected by the Emperor... Daemons might come out, and they don't play very nice... (though Daemon players can be very nice!)

Last time I looked the introduction set was Marines and Orks. :(

I think I'd go more for an Ork set over Chaos.

Why don't we take this into off-topic though - for all this thread's topic was bum - we don't want to get censored for being off-topic do we

I've DOW2 as well, though bit off-topic even though there isn't really a topic at hand. Warhammer TT costs a lot, but I do know some stuff on general gameplay and stuff if anyone needs help (like units and factions, lore, etc.)
