As pointed out before, lights are NOT a good thing on the battlefield.

Back when I was in the Marines, the old M60A3 tanks still had the ability to mount a searchlight on the cannon barrel. They were never put there because in training, it was realized very quickly that when you use your searchlight, you can see 1 enemy. But, EVERYBODY on the battlefield now knows where YOU are.

Think about it. You want to basically give everybody out there the equivalent of a free target lock on you?
Maybe I do.
There's been several times where drawing the enemy in is very beneficial.

Imagine it.

A lone light, maybe a Cicada moving round and standing on a rock, opens up with a set of floods, putting out a blinding field of fluoresence, pumping out some med/heavy fire with lasers or cannons.

The enemy team turns to engage, the bait shuts off the lights, and your teammates open up on the rear of the enemy!

With the upcoming factory map, this feature would be absolutely cool. Not to mention just plain neat, giving our Mechs a greater range of appearance and function.

I would like to make one adjustment to this feature. Add 10 hit points to the lights, giving them a unit of Health.

Greetings all,

Some have made concerns that the additional 'ray trace' calls may be an issue for net traffic.

Others have mentioned using these 'lights' as targeting assist, or visual blinders.

- Very few Mech's had directed, high energy search lights.
- But all had down facing low light maneuvering and warning lights that were used inside buildings and hangers. Or when in especially dark areas or locations.

These were directed down and only lit a short area in front of the Mech, diffidently not for use at speed. But could be used for search and recovery ops or missions. (Lore references)
~ think 'black-out' lights used by the military, upper covers so only directed down and no forward shine.
- If these were added into the game it should not be linked to the targeting reticle, but placed in the center torso and directed down. So use would only be for navigating and could not be used for 'glare' creation in night missions.

The art work could be a simple elongated orb starting from the Mechs feet and extending 50 to 75 feet forward, following where the torso is directed. Controlled with the 'L' or 'shift L so it doesn't get accidently turned on when not wanted.
- And yes, the next map would be great for some for the darker areas we saw in the testing.

Just some ideas,
9erRed

Multiple point light sources are notorious performance drains. Plus, what's the point of headlights if you have night vision and IR vision?

While it's a nifty idea, who would actually use it in a match? It's almost as bad as an always on Tag laser for pointing out where you are and where your facing.

This reminds me of the BF3 tac light. On paper, it was a great idea, however in practice it become more of a headache than it was worth.

Honestly I would rather have a "Parachute Flare" that is launched like a NARC into the sky, but hovers like a UAV while providing light in ~200 meter radius.
