All I can say is that aside from the hero mech being played here and there, the ballistics heavy variant is the only one I've seen in play so far, which is about what we'd expect. The energy boat seems way too hot to be practical, and the mixed build one is... mixed... It's a shame the game is so dependent upon ballistics (and jump jets, though that's not a thing on any Banshee.)

Anyway, nice build ideas here.

So how XL-friendly is the Banshee chassis? Are the side torsos as easy to take out as the Atlas? I have only downed one through a side-torso hit (La Malinche running an XL), but I wasn't aiming for the side torso (was a lucky hit on a bare location).

Banshee soaks damage like a boss. If you stare down your target face to face, well, expect to lose a torso.
However, Those giant arms are the best shields i have ever seen on an Assault.
Hell, I get more mileage out of my Banshee arms as Shields than i do my Atlai. And thats WITHOUT Pilot Skills! And the best part is that you don't even lose firepower for using them as Shields!

Combine that with a reasonably slim CT and you've got one hell of a durable beast using a Standard. If you go XL, go LARGE, that size with that agility is a brutal and long living combination. If you do it right, You should never lose a Torso before both your arms are blown off.
I seriously cannot wait till i have mine Elited. My BNC-3E is already at 10 kills in 5 games.

-4x ML, 2x AC2, AC5, UAC5. Standard 300. Slow, but when she gets into something, it dies.

Absolutely love the Banshee so far. It's the Assault 'Mech i never knew I wanted or needed. ;)

Nice! I have C-Bills ready for them next week.

PGI was clever: they made the crappy 3M so they will sell more heroes.

It's like a Charger done right.

If you slow the engine, you can remove ES e FF to use more DHS:

Maybe firing in two groups of 4 medium lasers would make that mech effective.

I picked up the 3E. I'm running 4 AC/2s, but so far I haven't had anywhere near the success Dontor has had. I tried a STD320 I had laying around to test survivability, but I found it to be so agonizingly slow that I got shot to pieces before I could get to some cover. Therefore, it's big XL all the way for my Banshees.

I think I'm going to get the 3M as my third, if only because of the hate it gets. 2 PPCs + 6 MLs with a STD380 and 19 DHS should work with a bit of trigger discipline. Hopefully.

Beyond about a Std 350 you're just not getting sufficient payout for the tonnage you're committing to the engine. With a Std 350 you can mount 2 PPCs, 6 MLs, 22 DHS, and not have to worry about trigger discipline all that much. It's 33% efficient and still has 584 armor (56/arm, 67/leg).

Yeah, that's good advice Roadkill. I just thought I'd use the engine it comes with to grind some C-Bills to get a more appropriate engine.

Yes but to be fair it (quad2s) has failed pretty hard a few times on smaller maps where its easy to get over-run, it works best on large maps that you can trail your team and keep firing on the enemy. Not that you dont already know all of that .

Oh and im using
18DHS
12tons ammo
XL380
4AC2s
BAP
Cool shot
Zoom
oh ya and it puts out 260 damage in 17 seconds, and must really suck to get ht by lol.

Move the ammo to the legs so you won't need CASE. I would even remove the AMS to add an extra DHS, like this.

And the 3E.

Your builds look very tabletop-wise (few ammo, CASE), but MWO is somewhat different...

yeah but its all spread out.

its really dumb the scoring system rewards you more for being inefficient at killing enemy mechs. If I kill enemy mechs with direct CT shots I get a lower score than someone who sprays AC2s all over the place.

Yeah, I spectated your 3E last night on River City. Pretty good match.

It'd be pretty easy to fix, too. Only count damage that contributes to a component destruction. (Remember, all kills include a component destruction, so that's covered.)

Spray 200 damage all over the Mech which is then cored in 1 shot by a 4 x CUAC/10 Daishi? You get points only for the damage you did to the CT, as that's the only location where a component was destroyed.

Take off an arm? You get to count those damage points because (at least on most Mechs) the arm probably contained weapons, so you at least reduced the effectiveness of the target.

Pretty simple, really, and it's data that PGI probably already has.

Inefficient at killing EXTREMELY efficient at disarming (3 kills a game isnt what i would call bad at killing anyhow). how spread out the damage is depends on how well your aim is, mine is pretty darn good, sure a good pilot will roll alot but 8 damage per shot is almost like an AC10 round ever .5 seconds so it grinds even a wary opponent down quickly.

What I mean by disarming is its super easy to take out a side torso on almost any mech within a few seconds, even more so if they have taken some fire, and in some cases it means killing them.
I generally target assults but havent had much problems with solitary lights so far.
