Maybe this implementation of "achievements" is just preparation for them to dump this game onto the X-Box system.........I mean you know how important "achievements" are to that crowd after all.........

"Simulation? Naw, we don't want to do that, we want to do a watered down, abortion of a Battletech Universe based game that will suck the money out of the wallets of all those 80's kids that are now old enough to have disposable income........and once we've gotten most of that, we'll change everything so we can start sucking the money out of the new kids on the block by using buzzwords like achievements and respawn and 3rd person view."

Give them credit, they may not be able to code worth a crap but the sure know how to get money from us rubes.

I see no mention of rewards at all. This is just another grind for grind's sake.

Here is what kills me.

So, I see some politicking for no rewards or achievements (or achievement rewards) in the private matches. So with no rewards in those matches, I'm going to predict a future quote...

Quote

We were surprised to find out that the use of consumables in the Private Queues to be next to non-existent, but used heavily in the Public Queues.
With this information, we've realized that New Players and Solo Players are more savvy about the game mechanics than the organized players, so to that end, we're going to remove the tutorial, Cadet System, and stop focusing on the "New Player Experience".

Why all the assumption that there will be rewards? I highly doubt there will be. Most games I've played don't give rewards.

They haven't, but many F2P games that offer achievements offer rewards as a way to entice players to grind for them. I'd love some small rewards (like 10-100 MC, a mech pattern, or a cockpit item) for some, but I don't expect any rewards. It would be a good thing to implement though.

Here are some achievements I'd like to see for faction fighting and for cadet incentives:

Training Achievements

Graduation
Requirement: Play 25 matches with cadet bonus
Reward:1 free Mechbay

Fully-Certified Mechwarrior
Requirement: Complete Tutorial Mode
Reward:1 free mech of your choosing

Mech Raid Achievements

Fed-Com Killer
Requirements: Defeat 50 Steiner or Davion Players
Rewards: Commando COM-2D, Centurion CN9-D, Jagermech JM6-DD, Atlas AS7-D 4 Mechbays.

Bird Hunter
Requirements- Defeat 50 Marik Players
Rewards: Cicada CDA-3M, Quickdraw QKD-5M , Orion ON1-M, and Awesome AWS-9M 4 Mechbays.

Dragon Slayer
Requirements-Defeat 50 Kurita Players
Rewards: Jenner JR7-K, Kintaro KTO-19, Dragon DRG-5N, Atlas-AS7-RS with 4 Mechbays.

Another thing, there should be a notification to tell you the achievements that you've unlocked and the rewards you've got.

Mighty damn generous aren't you? Give away all those mechbays, and why would anyone buy any?

This is useless. Game needs to be fixed and balanced first. We don't need this fluff.

We? Well **** me, here I thought achievements were something some people liked to work towards. Thanks for setting me straight. I will try not to have independent thoughts anymore....

Thats not the point. Point is do you need achievements over game balance and bug fixes? UI 2.0 fixes? CW? Hit detection fixes?

What do you call the achievement for getting more assists than damage done? "Stealth Walker?"

This breaks ELO

I dont care if it does or if it doesnt but I do know math.

if X is ELO unchanged from where it is now.

and Y is all new stats that determine ELO.

old players versus new players after March 18 will never have accurate player versus player stats.

Breaks it, just reset it.

ELO only changes based on the very last match. It's an abstract number, not something you calculate based on your K/D and W/L ratio. You play a match, your ELO changes, and at that point that match's stats no longer matter to ELO.

Fixed that for you.

Your Elo only changes when you lose a match the Matchmaker predicted you'd win, or win a match the MatchMaker predicted you'd lose.

By the way, it's "Elo" not "ELO". It's a surname, not an acronym. (But if it was an acronym it would stand for "Establishes Lousy Outcomes".)

No, ELO Changes regardless. It changes less when you win and were "supposed to", but it changes after nearly every match, with the exception of matches where you outclassed your opponent by so much that it simply doesn't register. The idea is the winner takes ELO points from the loser.

PGI,

Honestly, if the game went "live" last fall then how can one justify wiping stats? The game is already live right? Blizzard launched an achievement system as well back in the day but they did not wipe my hard earned stats, and though it could not account for everything I had done prior to the achievement system Blizzard still gave me credit, and the achievements, justified by the stats that were tracked up to that point.

I'm continually angered and entertained by the hubris that this development team demonstrates on a monthly basis.

PGI is a punchline in discussions about terrible game development among my friends. It is difficult to find another company that has taking such a promising IP and game and demonstrate such poor judgement so often and at nearly every opportunity. Less you think I'm being unfair checkout gaming blogs and articles in the gaming community and you will find that my opinion is widely shared.

I'm pretty sure there was a dev blog which said it only changed when there was an unexpected outcome.

By the way, it's still "Elo" and not "ELO", of this I am certain :D.

Love that more of my founders money is going towards features I neither wanted, or weren't even the most vaguest of possibilities.

Still not buying a clan pack. I'll maybe purchase one once I hear community warfare is actually released, and it isn't some 100% a** backwards rendition of its original conception over 2 years ago.

Good thing I'll be working on my 35hr/week bachelors starting this fall. Will make my eventual abandonment of this game that much easier.

I tottaly agree with that sentiment Peiper. Exactly what i was thinking of posting, not that it would be noticed or anything done about it by the team based on their history. It is also mind boggling to me, what do so called "achievements" have to do with stats? And even if some of them are for example, "drop 6000 missions, get a flashy medal", why would players that already achieved that, have to do it all over again, as Peiper said.

<S>

This is probably the most important reason for the stat wipe:

If they did that, then they bastardized the system, and it would make it nearly impossible for folks to climb.

And habit

Why don't you calm down, if it helps to entice new players for playing the game or make difficult tasks more interesting, then I welcome it.

Next time actually read my quote before you bash it.
