I understand this is being positioned as a "step in the right direction" for PGI towards community warfare implementation.
However, running an event with "only solo drops count" as a criteria for a
faction tournament is such a ridiculously conflicted premise. It undermines the whole idea of player built communities working towards common objectives. If pilots want to drop solo, that is their prerogative, but PGI should not be deliberately discouraging groups from playing together when that is ultimately the intended implementation of the game system. Or have I missed something from the developers expressly stating they want to phase out support for grouped drops due to their "OP" nature?
Ultimately, communication and strategy are the cornerstones of effective play. This is obviously complemented by skill, but I'd say good information + communication trumps skill any day (and more power to any group that shows up with skill, communication, and a plan). The "solo only" caveat precludes the possibility of organized players from operating in units as they have become accustomed, and really comes across as a slap in the face to those who have taken the time to work on building player communities with whom we enjoy dropping and training.
I'm very disappointed in the implementation of this tournament, and I want to make sure PGI is aware. This is contrary to the promise of community warfare as it was outlined and described from embryonic pre-release stages, and as an individual who has contributed significant funding to the ongoing development of this title (well more than I've ever paid for a retail AAA title), I'm not sure who PGI is pandering to, but this almost feels like a betrayal of what I invested in in the first place.
