I think PGI has thrown in the towel and simply turned off the matchmaker....

Edit: apparently thay have given up on having any kind of decent hit registration also... 18 MLs to the ST of an assassin and it still had armor? WTF? had 6 gauss rounds pass straight through it too... I honestly think PGi is at their absolute limits and are simply incapable of improving the game any further..........

well as it was an assassin, you probably shot at it's shadow clone put there to distract you from shooting the actual assassin who ninja'd his way to the other side of the map using it's stealth armor after dropping a red smoke bomb in front of you to hide it's escape.

also- during the missile event for today- person in chat complains about people bringing LRMs for the majority of the match. during a missile event where LRMs are the quickest way to get through it. we win 12-7 and he thanks everyone but the useless LRM boats (cause 3ML 2 ALRM10s in a trebby are so boaty) for the win. naturally I finished 5 dmg short of finishing in one shot so had to have another match to complete. 1 kill,10 assists, 3 kmdds and just shy of 800dmg. and we actually had an assault that did 1100 on the team as well along with a heavy doing about the same dmg as me (both had more kills though)

So we're back to assault mechs and clan men's parking behind me as I poke out of cover to unload an alpha now are we. And instead get hammered as my peice of cover to retreat into has been removed by some moron in a crutch mech.

Sigh.

Why does such a large portion of the playerbase actively avoid doing anything that would help the team in QP?? its like they want to lose....

To be fair if you bring an assault to QP you know you're going to be in for a hard time as the team will inevitably ignore you while the reds will do the opposite and in all likely hood your team will split into two or three groups and go in different directions. anyway.

Assaults are now left to be useful in Fp and Solaris only i find.

I've found key to success in an assault.

#1 Build cool.
#2 As close to FLPPD as possible.
#3 Build fast.
#4 Don't peek and trade.

As an assault, you can mostly be nearly 60kph (Is wise at least).
You do have more armour and structure.
You can run cooler, you don't need huge alpha strikes.
Think like a heavy, don't just wade in willy nilly.

Position is king, flexibility is king. MOAR GUNZ isn't.

Assault mechs should do what it sais on the tin be able to almost run across to the enemy lines in the open withering Incomimg fire and providing a distraction for mediums and heavies to move in or push a flank. Sadly this just isn't possible in MWO the only assault in the game capable of actually doing this is the VIP atlas but then duh. No weapons and too slow anyway.

Then you have the problem of lights it only takes one light mech with a pilot who knows what he's doing and not only is your assault mech out of the fight he's more than likely dead. Definitely if another light turns up.

MWO seriously needs to address the durability of assaults in game even if they could fix knock-downs and pray to mech god's incorporate melee assaults would be worth playing.

Melee would be a step in the right direction. Knowing that I could be swatted like a fly in a light would keep me from closing in on an assault. If you have any kind of distance in an assault vs. light duel, the assault usually wins.

As a mostly light pilot, I can tell you I usually close in on the target, find vulnerabilities (hit 'r'), attack from a good position and constantly keep moving. Most assaults try to rake my mech with lasers, which only spreads the damage for me. The few that can track and focus the fire usually make short work of me.

When dueling other lights I shoot the crotch of the mech. If I miss CT, I hit the legs. Win-win.

I try to play the same way in other weight classes with varying success. What I've noticed is that the larger the mech, the more focused fire one receives. This is probably due to size and speed of the mech. The extra armor and structure compensates for that IMHO.

Lol saw alienized in a match last night. And again tonight, We lost. Nothing unusual there I lose 90% of my matches.

But then have good matches when you don't recognise anyone other than some casuals.

I totally got taken out by a strategy that I use regularly.

During the LuRM challenge, I decided to use my LRM Hunchie. Refitted it out with some new tech and went to town.

1st match, met the damage requirements (by quite a bit) and made it through the match with 98% health.

Second match, having LuRM fun and suddenly fall over dead. Completely cored from the back.

My esteemed opponent followed my smokey rainbow back to where all the LuRM'ers were and shot me in the back. With really large guns so it was an insta-kill. He then proceeded to take out the other 2 LRM boats in the same manner.

I never saw it coming.

"Well done good sir!" I typed in all chat, acknowledging his sound strategy.

This caused some salt from some of my PUG mates....

Just had a match on alpine peaks where a piranha and an uziel literally stuck to my atlas for the whole match. Our team only had me and a mad cat mkii for assaults.

I asked the team not to be timid so I mashed the 'w' key and to my surprise they went with me. Weirdly the enemy team didn't pay a huge amount of attention to me but when I pushed a little too hard and gave a jagermech the bad news I was able to push past him and ignore him with my piranha and Uziel buddy stuck right with me even when I was a stick and a mystlynx came to try and finish me off they dealt with him.

I didn't do a huge amount of damage (526 iirc) or even get any kills but by god did my atlas absorb a lot and distract the enemy. Won an impressive match despite my mech eventually succumbing.

To that piranha and Uziel pilot I owe you a space beer each! A refreshing change. Daily win!

Great to hear-right there is an example of how MWO should be played.
Don't worry about big damage numbers, it means literally nothing. Efficient damage is the only damage that matters. what you did was far more important.

I have few good matches in the last two weeks. Seems like many players either have no clue or do care enough to follow play calling.

When I have a half way decent game like getting two kills, or 400+ damage, etc, my Team gets smashed.

I have to bite my tongue for fear of spewing horrible litanies in a pigeon of Mexican and Latin American Spanish.

I'm pleased to say that I'm quite inebriated on space beers. Sticking with the fatties is so working.

I'm able to scare off/kill the lights that think that they have an easy assault victim to back stab and get quite a few "kill secured" on mechs that have been "softened up" by my assault friends.

The space beer hangover is going to hurt tomorrow morning.....

Really do have to quit this.

The lack of match maker is ridiculous Every match is a stomp and most of the time i'm on the losing side.

At least you didn't queue as Davion in the latest event:P I was seriously ashamed of my teams, all bar 2. So much hiding and timid camping, spectating showed me why...
Nearly all "sniper" and "support" builds.
Seems like house Davion employs some very non-aggressive mech pilots these days.....you win games by making decisive applications of force. that means moving and shooting. that means direct, efficient damage. Not hanging at the back whilst an an urban mech dogfights 3 assaults and nearly kills all three whilst you spam your lrm 30 "supporting" him with your 85 ton assault....

*hint* I was the urbie....

You know you are in a timid team when you hear, "Follow the Urbie into the push".
