As long as those basics don't include "stick together" which means they will all stand in one square passively.
Better to say stay close-but loose.

By that definition, yes I agree, but that's why I almost always follow up with "Don't tailgate/butt hug your allies".
This sometimes falls on deaf ears and blind eyes, but it fairs better than hoping your allies will be smart enough to not grope your shiny metal arse.
And of course, there's a 50/50 chance someone will be make a comment about your arse. Sometimes funny & tasteful, but usually not.

The amount of awful games I've had tonight from what I remember doing around 80% awful games. Teams just standing about , milling and idling. Or type two those who lose their nerve when they see another mech and grind to a halt because they might get shot....LOL.
I wonder if voip will help to stop the sheep and the cowards?

I've found that solo queuing roughly has an 80% lose rate, so I'm not surprised at your percentage of awful games.
I love it too, especially when assaults & heavies just sit there, playing footsies with the enemy while an entire team of support is right behind them. Granted, I understand that team support is largely unreliable in PUGs, but playing footsies all day just encourages the behavior with everyone else; and ultimately leads the entire team to clog one corridor to play ring-around-the-corner until they get face-rolled.

I somehow doubt that VOIP is going to help cowards get any braver. It might alleviate some of the sheepiness of pugs, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm expecting more 12 year old sarcastic backtalk from adults who need to pick their balls up off the floor or have them kicked in (along with their teeth).

sometimes it just takes a change of tactics. so my wang was not preforming very well (i hear they have a pill for that) nor was the ah. so i backed off a bit and brought out the cn9-al support mech. almost custom made for this. std eng for long survival. twin lrm5 for lots of assists, erll and tag to spot and splash at range and a couple of ct mounted mls to zombie. bang i am now making mc.

BTW i just back shot the worst t bolt in the world. caustic valley. fight had pretty much turned into a game of peak-a-boo. blues holding the caldera reds hiding in the rocks. so i run out of lrms and decide to flank around. get all the way behind the reds. target tag and shoot a t-bolt in the back as i cruse around. well he did not move. so i backup and hit him again. and again. then i just stop and hit him. not afk as he moved around a bit due to incoming lrms. back shoot him, burning off the rear armor when he dies to lrm fire. best part is he has a timber with him almost as dumb. so i am just standing there in the open burning these 2 a new, well you know, and they die which pushes the game to 8 us 5 them so the blue team pushes and cleans up. i get 8 assists and over 400 damage.

i guess i have been trying to hard....

so if you see a CN9 out on the edges with a parasol looking to all the world like he is out on a mid day stroll, don't worry it is just me.

Those times when you see 4 blue triangles and 2 red triangles and realize you are in a good position to sneak up behind the Reds. Only to find out the 4 blues are hiding from the 2 reds so it instead of making it a five on two in your favor it is 2 against one in theirs.

Edited to add:

What I learned playing MWO today.

Flanking - One smaller group circles to get behind the enemy. Then 2 or 3 or 4 more people decide it would be more fun to join the flankers after they are half way there. Flankers arrive and poke a couple of enemies. Enemies turn and look at them. This won't do so the main flanking group runs and hides. Meanwhile the main group is still feeling happy that they haven't had to poke their noses out yet. Stragglers to the flank find the flankers hiding and decide that this running all over is fun so the flanking group (Now the bigger group) takes a long circuitous route to the back of the enemy lines. Where of course the whole enemy is waiting for them now that they finished off the 4 guys from the main group that were "waiting to push"

Pushing - Whole company pushes on the enemy. Enemy mechs start dropping and the enemy starts to retreat. Good they aren't shooting us now we can go back to hiding behind the rocks. . . oh there is a spider let's chase that instead. Results: 3 or 4 to 1 advantage is lost. Round over.

Of course, I believe this is all just a conspiracy to leave me standing all alone with the enemy in my x-5 since winning a round in that thing is like trying to win the lottery :P

The time you realise how hard it is to archieve something like this in a K. It's exactly what a K is made: for assisting.

Without the AMS rewards! (Hopefully in the future.)

i take it you are asking about the cn9-al. if so it is a probably the least loved of the cn9s but it can be a good fast support mech. i set this one up as a good light lance support and it does ok in CW as a first drop mech surprising. not the cheapest build but some of these tourneys it can be a good 2 rank mech. were it really shines is backing up a bunch of lights just stay back and have an exit plan. it is fast but not that fast

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...260c30c628590e1

there are other very good builds for the AL like the Beam Wang 2ppc or 2 lpl with an xl275 or a light killer with ssrms and mpls. the cn9-al will never be a trier 1 mech but it can be a fun mech

Had this happen TWICE on two different games on Crimson.

In both games, we pushed in through the tunnel. In the first, we cleared out the one or two mechs in the garage. I kept advancing and started taking heavy fire from a Jagermech. Fully confident that my teammates had my back, I engaged only to find myself under additional fire from above and decided to retreat. Lo and behold, our Assaults were still sitting at the tunnel entrance just watching me get cut up. They didn't move up until I made it back to their position. And when they did decide to move up, the enemy light lance came behind us.

In the second, our big guys were moving up through the tunnel and around the mountain to the garage meeting no resistance. The light lance at saddle was under fire and one of the pilots said "fall back". Unfortunately, our other lances thought they were supposed to retreat. The light lance got wiped out running back, everyone else split off in groups of ones and twos and got picked off by enemy lights. I was with a King Crab, Wolverine, and Battlemaster in the tunnel. The Crab engages a Hellbringer and Timber at the entrance. I call for a push and try to move up to support, but the Crab goes down. But one of the other pilots says "We can't push because we'll lose". I tell him that we're down 5 because we've been retreating all game.

So remember that Hellbringer? Well, it came after me. My CT was open from some sniper fire I took from the garage earlier, and he's just moving in for the kill. It's over in seconds and I watch the Battlemaster and Wolverine simply walk away through the side entrance in the deathcam. If they looked behind them they could have killed the Hellbringer in ten seconds. Oh well, the score is 0-7, and I can't bear to see how the rest of this plays out, so I disconnect.

Mine was Terra Therma in my x-5. Someone called for a center push right at the beginning and we actually did. I got myself inside the cone and in a nice spot where I had cover behind a post and could pound the enemy at the entrance they were trying to get in. They tried a push against us and lost a couple mechs and started to fall back. I kept my spot for a minute waiting for companions to push after them and finish them off. The next thin I know I am all alone in the center taking fire from the enemy and no blue triangles near me. So I fall back to the entrance I came through and find 4 or five friends huddled there. I am not really in th mood to hide at this point and see a couple of red triangles near what must have been an attempt to flank the enemy. The Blues outnumber the Reds and I can get behind the Reds and surprise them. I head over and find two enemies, and they are looking at me... No friends they are all down the hill out of LOS. I take cover and peak again. Enemy still looking at me, three of them now, no friends... I play pokey pokey for awhile until the enemy finishes off the friends hiding up in mount doom and come up behind me . . . Round over.

I decide to drop as a CW pug in channel with friends, stuck in queue for 35 minutes, everyone else has 2 drops. Me? nothing.

I try to play it. Not very good at it really, and to be honest, till Logistics is in, I'm having more fun in the forum propaganda wars than I am the CW itself. Honestly, it's current set up is the worst of skirmish and assault modes with the most irritating tactics in MWO, including poptarting. All meta all the time hardcore group slaughter.

But the strange thing is... having respawn lessens the fury that one can feel over it all. Something I didn't expect.

Beyond that, take your time and wait to see how PGI fixes some critical game experience problems.

I was just in a round in my PB where I got nailed hard by an AC from pretty close. Shook the cockpit and everything. . . no damage. Then chased some mechs around taking shots on different ones well within the range of my weapons. Eventually I died. . . Damage: 9 (half of one alpha). Granted it was not a good round. But, if the point of the game is to kill big stompy robot mechs, how do you accomplish that if you don't know if your weapons are just bright sparkly lights or if they are actually causing damage.
