So how is it possible to train people anymore with the population what it is? How do you play as a team, in a team game with players of vastly disparate skill levels?
Last night, group queue. We're an 8-4 man throughout the evening. I and another were the highest tiered players: low T2. The rest were T4s and T5s (1 t3 joined us for a two rounds).
Played probably a dozen matches before I couldn't take it anymore. All loses, a couple of close games, the rest were pretty bad losses. No...they were brutal.
Started from the get go as a six man, our six went one way the other six went the other (despite calls). Results were predictable. Tried running mechs of all the same speed so as to better form and stay in a ball, tried running two scouts and the rest as heavy as possible. Tried running light to try and wolf pack. Even tried letting folks run in what they felt comfortable in. Nothing was working.
I don't think our builds, or mech choices or tactical decisions really mattered much though as of ~10 of the ~12 or so matches played, we came up against six mans (or more) of known fairly competitive teams. The two or three matches where I thought we had a shot based on the loading screen, ended up with enemies running almost straight clan meta Cheetahs, Night Gyrs, Kodiak-3s, etc. (and still a few trying the Nova flammer build so at least we got some kills); but the rest were teams that knew what they were doing and they let us know it...and then showed us (at least our guys got to see the art of smack talk by those who can back it up).
Anyway, the brutality of trying to teach and play as a team when you can't even get into range, or form up or organize a ball and a push before 4 arctic cheetahs hit you in the back, and then focused gauss and PPC start reigning down on folks' backs; with your guys yelling into VOIP/TS "Someone call a target!" "Help!" "What do I do?" just breaks ya down after a dozen losses in a row and I have no idea what I can do about it.
After two years, I think last night was just a capstone to the last month (or so) of brutally one sided matches where it has become impossible for low tier groups to have a fighting chance at developing in QP group queue. I think the population at any given time is so low that scrubs like us are guaranteed to be placed against some of the best of the best more often than not, and that...frankly...sucks.
If you aren't a large group in the queue you are going to have a bad time. I learned this long ago. If you are trying to teach people in the group queue, you really need to run a low level account so the tier average doesn't just throw you to wolves. Otherwise you should just run private matches to get the new guys' feet under them in a somewhat controlled environment.

Seriously the barracks get stuck in archives to make way for the frickin comp section !!
Only damn thread, on the entire forum, where people can have fun, and it gets stuck in the cupboard under the stairs, so that 5% of the population can have four new sections.
As for the Group play Bud, wait for the Comp Queue to turn up in July, they can all smack talk each other then ,and leave the casuals in the 12v12
Why do some people even contemplate F.W as a good idea.
For shits and giggles I dropped for an invasion match tonight, first time I've been a dirty claner in FW since the first wave, so only one of my mech was optimised, my stormcrow prime was stock ! I even forgot to check if my deck had modules, I was that unprepared.
Yeah I was probably, no definitely taking the piss by dropping in that state, but I came third highest damage dealer got six kills, it was under 700 damage. Yeah in a normal game I'd have felt pretty ashamed to turn out less than 1k damage, but when only four of your team break 500 with four mechs three don't make 100 and two don't make 200, your not going to score well.
Just why do people that bad, put themselves through such torture, it can't be fun for them, and while a win is better, when your opfor scores that badly it must feel pretty hollow.
On the bright side we can still post in the thread. I had assumed it just got ****-canned, never to be seen again, when I couldn't find the sub-forum.
