Unless they're using 8080s and communicating at 1200 baud in the 3050s, the delay should be sub-second.

ever hear of lostech?

You may be mostly right on that, however, I've seen plenty of instances where a light is running in a straight line and the missiles just slam into the ground, just behind it, not hitting it.

In that situation, it looks an awful lot like the missiles are being out run, which is why putting a speed boost of say, 200kps for the last 100-200 meters of flight fixes the maneuverability issue and the instances of 'apparently' being outrun.

I can assure you that fast lights out ran in a straight line or very slight arc with line of sight LRMs with NO damage, seen it and done it lots of times. I have no idea how or why but they can do it but mostly at longer ranges and no I don't mean beyond max range.

Maybe LRMs max range includes the total distance travelled and not distance from the launcher?

*snip*

Well i guess we'll have to agree to disagree
Imo LRM's are not a problem as i get hit by other weapons way more than i do by LRM's (and the other weapons concentrate damage to a section of the target), and i rarely get hit by indirect fire.

Maybe you're just naturally better at using LRM's than you think you are

I can't believe that I'm somehow better with LRMs than most other players.

Anyone who knows me will tell you, I have pretty huge ego, but... When it comes to LRMs, no, they REALLY ARE just THAT easy...

This is in fact the case. If you fire your LRMs at a target that reads at "1000m" away on your display, the LRMs will detonate a few metres in front of it.

I've seen lights have missiles impact the ground behind them, not explode in the air (as a normal, out of range reaction might be), and it appeared to me at the time that the 'mech firing the LRMs was only around 500-700 meters away from the fast moving light when fired.

Playing a sniper you get to observe quite a bit in this game, I always thought it stupid.

The maps you can see this happen most in are Tourmaline Desert, Caustic Valley, and the Frozen Cities. I've seen it happen in Forest Colony too, though not as often...

I find direct-fire weapons much easier to use.

Gauss is the hardest weapon in the game to use effectively, especially in conjunction with other weapons. It needs a more definitive charge up animation or sound.

I definitely agree with you there.

This comes from a LONG run of dual gauss builds pre and post charge mechanic...

What I meant was more like you fire at a light mech say 700m away, then he gets the warning to run and listens. He then runs off to say the left and by the time the missiles get to him he has run 400m thus the total distance travelled by the LRM was more than 1000m.

Flight distance vs Target distance?

I do hope that something is done/changed/tweaked/nerfed, etc. with the LRM's.

I was all for watching the skies get filled with missiles. It looks very cool and it reminds me of what a battlemech battlefield should look like.

What sucked though is when I attempted to play my Shadowhawk the way I normally play it. I stay very mobile, fast and do shooting hit and runs repeatedly.

I tried this yesterday and made it about 5 to 10 seconds away from our ECM cover and was destroyed in under 10 seconds by the rain of missiles. It made it simply impossible to use my medium mech the way I am used to playing it.

<insert sad face here>

I guess back to my D-DC Atlas so I can survive.

A light can never outrun a missile if the boat still has a good lock. Period.

In the instances where it's perceived as such there are other factors at play.
Maybe the LRM boat lost lock. Maybe he got distracted and locked onto another mech, the light ran behind more cover, whatever.
If good lock then it could be HSR problems. Welcome to the world of SRMs where a great percentage of your missiles won't register.

Guaranteed though if I have a good lock on the light and maintained it my missiles hit the light.
You can test it for yourselves if you still don't believe common sense - run in a straight line (or even circles) with a LRM boat with clear los. Still think a light runs faster than a missile?

yes, yes they can. I've seen it, I've done it, I've had it happen to me. All it takes is a good fast mech, a little terrain adjustment, and bam! It's not the easiest thing in the world but to say that It's impossible is simply untrue

You sure other weapons doesn't benefit at all from know where you enemies are?

Not in a way that I can fire without line of sight by somebody else looking at a target.

No other weapon has multiple pieces of equipment that can actively/passively counter them either.

No other weapon can be fired from complete safety.

THERE IS NO COVER!

The missiles will arc over pretty much anything except a few tall buildings or only a few types of terrain feature that is rare, and certainly does not cover most paths that is needed for maneuver.

It does not matter if the LRM boats do not have a line of sight, since some lights doing circle dancing, which slower mechs have no way of stopping it, would get the LRM boats the lock the need.

How about you have to hold the fire button down until you get a lock and then release it to fire LRMS? Seems fair to do that and keep the current speed. This makes chain fire spam and everybody running LRMS a thing of the past. I mean, why not? If you can destroy a weapon that required skill, GUASS, it should be a no brainer to take a skilless tubesteak launcher and use a ******** game mechanic to get it under control. Goldenturd mechs are exempt, of course. Ya can't anger the cash puking fanbois now can ya?
