Oddly enough Bishop, my favorite looking light mech is the Raven, and my least is the Jenner. I think it looks far better than the old Battletech design and the cockpit looks good too. The Raven might be close to my favorite looking mech currently in the game as is. The Jenner is my least because it looks so...odd. I suppose that could be seen as part of the charm, but the forward joint legs and bulbous cockpit just looks ugly to me. Eye of the beholder I suppose.

Anyway...

Light:
Fav - Raven
Least - Jenner

Medium:
Fav - Hunchback (Shadowhawk was close)
Least - Cicada

Heavy:
Fav - Catapult
Least - Jager

Assault:
Fav -Atlas
Least - Highlander

Cockpit:
Fav - Raven
Least - Firestarter

P.S. I am bird/plane mech design biased. I like reverse leg joint mechs with a defined fuselage like torso and cockpit. I a normally not a big fan of the humanoid style mechs. I do like the Atlas design though and the Hunch is just so....Battletech.

Because of my design preference, I can't wait for the Bushwacker.

Well...

Light

Fav - Jenner
Least - can't say, really.

Medium

Fav - Hunchback
Least - Centurion (too broad-shouldered, lackluster back, too big arms)

Heavy

Fav - Cataphract - probably the best redesign
Least - Quickdraw - still good model, but, like original one, doesn't really have anything going for it.

Assault

Fav - Atlas
Least - Victor (shoulders too broad, bad "dual" weapon assembly in RA)

LIGHT
Best: Locust (Non-humanoid design done right)
Worst: Jenner (Non-humanoid design gone horribly wrong. Why is the center torso soooo long?)

MEDIUM
Best: Centurian (It just looks so mean.)
Honorable mention: Griffin (I like it, but the look is ruined when you put a SRM2 in the misslle barrel. I wish the barrel would resize with the missle loadout.)
Worst: Wolverine (I really want to love this mech, though, because it was my first mech in TT. It's not horrible, but just kind of bland.)

HEAVY
Best: Jagermech (It has guns for arms! And the spoiler is cool, too.)
Worst: Dragon (Not a fan of the beer gut)

ASSAULT
Best: Atlas (How can you not love the skull head?)
Worst: Battlemaster (My favorite assault in TT, but PGI ruined it by not giving it the iconic domed, rounded cockpit)

BEST HERO DESIGN
Firebrand (I love the devil theme.)

For me there are two factors that influence my opinions of the 'mechs - how good the design looks on it's own merits, and how much better it is that the original Battletech Technical Readout artwork. It's also interesting to see how different pilots prefer the looks of different 'mechs.

Light
Best: Locust - It's a fragile little beastie whose legs snap off if you hop off a pebble, but it looks great.
Worst: Commando - I feel like it's too short and wide, and has Popeye forearms.

Medium
Best: Griffin - captured the look brilliantly. Though it's hard not to pick the Hunchback and Cent as well.
Worst: Shadow Hawk. Flat, blocky, dull, not as cool as concept. Also too blasted tall. I get why the Treb tops a lot of ugly lists, but considering what they had to work with ...

Heavy
Best: Catapult. Obviously. Though they really need to fix it. I like the beaky nose option and wish we had gotten a non-Jester Hero K2 option with it. I think the Orion and Thunderbolt need an honorable mention - the Thud because it's a good adaptation, and the Orion because it's so much better than the TRO look.
Worst: Quickdraw. I mean, granted, they didn't have much to start with, but ... eww.

Assault
Best: Atlas. Great adaptation of the original concept; intimidating; huge, and a great walk animation cycle.
Worst: Banshee. It's just ugly and flat and less cool than it should be.

And I'll join the chorus pleading for the once beautiful Catapult to be restored to gracefulness.

I only have my two Worst Mechs for this. The Centurion and The Banshee.

The Centurion as it's a boxy piece of junk when the sources for it are tall and slender. The profile on it is all wrong so it has massive low slung arms that are on shoulders that extend far from the body. The Centurion shouldn't have it's arms and legs being straight up and down like an Atlas, they should be angled away from it's body like a Spider.

Yes, people love the above now because the massive arm and shoulder makes for a good shield and the way that Damage Transfer exists it means it can be more durable but this wasn't always the case. I actually liked the game before it had any form of damage transfer, designing that properly would just involve removing the hitboxes from destroyed sections of the mech. But the Damage Transfer has allowed Torso Twisting and the whole meta we currently have so that would be too drastic of a change now, but back in the olde days of the Closed Beta the Centurion was complete garbage as those fragile arms would fall off at the slightest look from another mech. Damage Transfer made the Centurion actually useful.

Then we have the problem of the Wang actually having a lower arm actuator on the model. COME ON GUYS! REALLY!?

As for the Banshee, it's just a mess of recycled assets without it's own profile. I don't have a problem with parts being mixed and matched and with assets being reused in mech modeling, it saves time and money and I get that. A lot of games do that. MWO does it well too, start taking a closer look at arms and hands, you'll notice that many are just basic geometry changes and not full remodels past the first half.

The problem with the Banshee is that it's lost any form of unique identifier and it shares the same profile as a Battlemaster. From a distance I've always mentally profiled every single Banshee I've seen without a missile launcher as a Battlemaster. Then you have the proportions getting messed up, the Banshee being wider and taller than an Atlas with lower slung arms.

So a loss of all unique identifiers from any of the source material, an overuse of art assets and a lack of alteration to reused art assets to point that you can identify the reused art at a glance and a completely generic profile and silhouette combined with messing up the size and bulk (A cardboard box Megazord Suit has a more unique profile to it, despite being a bunch of boxes.)

The Banshee is pretty close to being a perfect example of how to not bring BT Styling into MWO or how not to model a mech in general. And this is coming from someone that loves the new raven with a passion.

I like all of the mech models. None of them are badly executed. I also don't care about what they're "supposed" to look like.

My least favourites are the Hero mechs Jester (the scheme) and Ember(because you can't change the paint >:S).

I decided to include another section for my votes, that votes for the best head. Not the best cockpit, since i can't judge many of them, but the best looking exterior

== Lights ===============================
* Best Head: *Commando* edged out the Firestarter. The terminator eye is nice.
* Best Design: *Locust* again edged out the Firestarter
* Worst Design: *Jenner* Can't say how ugly this mech is to me. It's like a spaceship on humaniod legs. Seams to polarize a lot.

== Mediums =============================
* Best Head: *Centurion* I love how they made the head look like the helmet of a roman legionnaire.
* Best Design: *Centurion* Cicadas and SHawks are pretty nice too though.
* Worst Design: *Hunchback* Seams ok from the front, but the thighs look sooo stupid from the side. And it waddles like the imp.

== Heavies ==============================
* Best Head: *Thunderbolt* I like asymetric designs.
* Best Design: *Catapult* Well, it's just beautiful. Nicest legs of all mechs. Jägers and Thunderbolts are nice too.
* Worst Design: *Dragon* It looks pregnant or fat.

== Assaults ==============================
* Best Head: *Banshee* and *Atlas* can't decide.
* Best Design: *Victor* although Awesomes, and the 2 above are pretty nice as well.
* Worst Design: *Stalker* A zeppelin on cow feet. Looks clumsy.

Being mostly a medium pilot my favourite mech out of all is the *Centurion*

Based purely on looks?

Light: Best (Commando), Worst (Raven)
Medium: Best (Cicada), Worst (Trebuchet)
Heavy: Best (Jagermech), Worst (Quickdraw)
Assault: Best (Awesome/Victor), Worst (Stalker)

Best cockpit view (Griffin), Worst cockpit view (Locust 1V)

Lights: Best (Locust) best rework of original design ever!
Worst (Commando/Spider)

Mediums Best (Hunchback/Griffin)
Worst ( Treb/Wolverine) both sets seemed like a tie to me

Heavies Best (Thunderbolt) Asymetry baby!
Worst (Quickdraw) Sorry, they just make me laugh when I see them

Assaults Best (Atlas) Again a great rework of the skull head but mechanical and it feels bulky
Worst (Stalker) Just seems to plain, like the hardpoints aren't really there.
Special mention ( Banshee) The Devlog #3 was talking about making it seem OLD like hundreds of years old, that is kinda neat in a way. It does feel like a different design style from another time.

Odd, my preferred ride since it was introduced, in Closed Beta, was the CN9-AH. Always had people tell me how fragile they were, even after I killed them with it.

*shrugs*

Guess I never got the memo-.

Best:
Light - Locust (so cute, walk/run animation so great), Raven
Medium - Centurion (that whole mech looks great), Cicada
Heavy - Tied, Founder's Cat and the K2 with PPCs and UAC/5s mounted.
Assault - Victor

Worst - Jenner. It's so ugly it's almost cute though.
Medium - Shadowhawk
Heavy - Dragon. Orion looks bad from the 3rd person drone but good from the front.
Assault - Awesome

Interesting how mixed this is. Was floored to hear people don't like the Raven!

I generally like the looks of every mech in the game. Maybe I'm just an easy sell, but I like the styles and art, and in many case, I like them much better than the TRO art....

Some reason people apparently don't like the sleeker Raven over the old bulbous head from the universe.
