I know this has been brought up some time ago in the past but seems to have died.

Catapults used to take a pretty good beating. You could have died from ST (XL) or CT torso blowout unpredictably. However, after one of the patches sometime last winter they just seemed to turn into huge CTpults without any mentioned reason why.

You can almost certainly wager your entire life savings on a CT blowout now and double your retirement fund .
It was mentioned shortly after and confirmed by a few but the subject died without much thought or investigation.

I'm bringing this up again in the hopes that Catapults can once again become a formidable mech on the battlefield and we may be able to recommend them as a good buy.

Please feel free to confirm this and maybe the devs will dig into this a bit for those of us that love our kittas.

I have talked to a few others who would agree with this.

Can we talk about the huge hit boxes for ears now

Some days piloting a Catapult does feel like this:

Posted Image

I might want this as 'nose art'.

One of the builds I made for the C1 turned it into a defacto K2, so you could shoot the ears off all you wanted, I didn't care. I had 2 ERPPCs and LPL waiting for you. Kinda fun really. It almost doesn't matter if you have an XL in there or not, after all, I don't recall the last time I've not died to a CT.

Realistically though, till LRMs get made equal to ACs, the Cats are going to be second class citizens. K2s and Jesters pretty much have the same issues that AC40/Dual Gauss Jagers and Cataphracts have in being glass cannons if they run fast.

Here's the only thing I've found, if the head hitbox is reduced then I'm assuming the CT would become larger, then again it says the pelvis no long applies to the CT. http://mwomercs.com/...61-21-jan-2014/
  • Catapult
    • Pelvis has been adjusted so that a much smaller section of it applies damage to the Center Torso with the rest of it going to the Left and Right Leg.
    • Increased the size of the leg penetrating the hip by approximately 5%.
    • Head hitbox reduced by approximately 20%.

The issue with the big CT came a few months before this last known hit box adjustment. I wanna say last October is when this became an issue.

There are issues with several mechs. The Hunchback was supposed to be a medium for brawling. I use it for sniping because it will crack like an eggshell at close ranges. The Atlas also has hardpoints made of glass. Its easy to bcome unrmed VS lighter mechs.

I've been running mine today just to try it out. Mmmmmm... tasty. No spectacular matches, but you can tell the enemy wasn't happy I was there.

Found the original mention of it here, post #148 quoted and confirmed by me in #155

http://mwomercs.com/...r/page__st__140

Up until Filter mentioned it I thought i was just imagining things. Since then I have spoken to several others who agree on this and the time at which this happened.

As someone mentioned about...

Loss of the huge head meant loss of 30-32 point of armour before you die...
At least it is not to easy to headshot a Cat now ? ;)

I enjoy piloting the Jester Catapult… Something about a fast, mobile, jumping, duel PPC Mech that I like. However since its introduction it’s been nerfed several times. Between ghost heat (no 3xPPC), shutdown city ErPPC heat increase, velocity loss of PPC bolts, jumping turn rate nerf, jump jets efficiently nerf (lots of mobility loss) and the AC/UAC gun metagame, it’s not so good. (However, I must add the Duel AMS have been handy lately.)

I have always thought if a weapon designer were to design a direct fire, jumping Catapult given the Missile Catapult’s chassis to work from, the last thing on their mind would be to sacrifice a single degree of the missile Cat's 120/0-16/35 degree arc of fire, possible even pushing it out to 16/45 like the K2’s. I can understand limiting a gun catapult arc due to recoil forces but not an all energy catapult. The current 95/0-16/30 is pretty restrictive given the prior chassis’ more permissive limits.

Honestly the Jester, with all the Cats, suffers enough from the massive Catapult CT while allows easy access from 275 degrees. This plus their XL engine friendly side torsos, makes it is appealing to light mechs that want to start a knife fights.
Anyway, I'm hoping PGI will mitigate all the heavy nerfing a bit and buff it up during the next round of "quirks" (hoping for torso twist/arc of fire plus ups and maybe an better heat efficiently due to The Jester’s decided design as an all energy mech).

As for the missile versions, lose the stupid (and ugly) “add on” VCR launchers and return to the standard box launchers with appropriate number of missile silo holes showing in their front plates. If PGI was really generous, a single high mounted center torso/head energy slot for a tag would be welcomed.

The Cat allways was a weak Head and CT - that is why driving a Cat with XL is pretty much a no brainer.

I can agree on this logic. However the issue I brought up came long before the head hitbox was adjusted.

This really belongs in the Gameplay Balance subforum - not patch feedback.
