I need unit icons, 100x100, from each merc unit. I'm implementing forum usergroups based on each unit, so that we all know who's who.

I mean... realistically, the Clan isn't hitting the Inner Sphere in-game for at least a year. And that's if the devs even allow you to play Clan. So... whilst the RP factor is admirable... if you don't want to join, that's fine.

Yeah, we're roleplaying it out. I'm even coming up with rules to play out trials of grievance, position, etc... I figure we're just kinda stuck i the inner sphere until the Clans return, and when they do, my players and I will probably be enmeshed enough with a house that we'll stick with it out of loyalty to our friends, rather than fictional factions.
Without knowing what is going to happen with how we're even able to structure or negotiate with other players/companies/houses, I have to wonder how much work can even be put into forming such an alliance of Dragoon groups. I do like the idea that there will be one group as Alpha, another as Beta, and so on, but we'll have groups on multiple servers and let's say we (leaders of player-groups) fill out the entire Wolf's Dragoons Order of Battle with our players, and we're able to paint up our mechs and organize our units to reflect it - what's going to stop a bunch of new players from hopping into the game when it launches, also choose to paint themselves up as Dragoons Alpha Company and wreck the reputations we all would like to establish with our pre-determined groups?
I'm not trying to be a nay-sayer here, and I like the idea of establishing units beforehand with die-hard player groups. I can understand why established groups would really like to establish themselves in MWO ASAP so they can be ready to jump into the action as a unit. But with as little information as we have on the game - and given that we probably will be scattered across servers - I admit I'm pretty frustrated. I have both old and new Battletech/MW players in the devil dogs, and it's hard to explain WHY we have to do this stuff pre-launch when we can't really explain to them how it's all gonna work out to begin with. Maybe that will be next month's interviews, eh?
Good luck with the mission to bring all the doggies together. If I knew how to keep spammers out of our site, I'd invite you all to check it out! lol I might be able to pilot a mech, but I ain't that good piloting the internet.
Oh, btw, we might be Wolf's Dragoons, but we're secret. I almost forgot...

This is a good question, and it's one on which we've deliberated internally - as well as in this thread. Odds are good that the name Wolf's Dragoons will be locked out to players. Odds are good that sub-unit names are not locked out. We don't know what sort of naming conventions will apply or whether they'll be locked in once you select a name. For my part, I plan to request that my players wear the BWC tag in their name. As for the unit name, my plan is to use what we've always used - but we'll probably throw in a [WD] tag in there if the rest of the Dragoons alliance's units want to all have that identifier. So there can be a billion Alpha Regiments, but only one will be the [WD] Alpha regiment, if that's the plan we go with (if that makes sense).

And, one of my bros suggests we put ^DD^ in our names for devil dogs. But I'd rather them ID us by the looks of our mechs than floating text. Hopefully we'll have access to canonical unit designations, at least. I am in love with Natasha Kerensky, so I might have to affiliate myself closely with you just to get to put the black widow emblem on our mechs too! Though, fluff-wise, we are secret , game wise, we should at least support the Wolf's Dragoons with their ugly dog logo on our mechs.

There isn't an SRG. There have been several people discussing forming it, but nobody has actually gone so far as to actually form it. So feel free to join whomever you wish, including your own SRG unit!

I'd like to reiterate that because it is a well-known, established canon unit in BattleTech and MechWarrior, this particular Wolf's Dragoons is not in fact a single mercenary unit. It is a conglomeration of merc units, or more appropriately an alliance. One does not outright join the Dragoons - they join a unit which is within that alliance.
So, TL/DR version: find one of the units that is part of this alliance and sign up, or create your own and join!
