Why can't we can put unit tags on the forums and in game? I know you could do it through the sig, but seriously... why can't we have nice things?

PGI you should be ashamed.

You should be ashamed for using comic sans. And that other one too who I can't be bothered to quote.

And the new breed of White Knights takes the podium, denouncing the old breed of White Knights.

I love when that happens. So satisfying, especially since it happens every single moderately big thing. Previous white knights learn that they were in the wrong and step down to the normal people. I always wonder how that could keep happening...

And to King Cobra...honestly I gave up on hoping they would listen to there core old guard players way back. They didn't listen to the early closed beta testers, they didn't listen to the secret testers that actually wanted to test and fix things, they don't listen to anybody but there yes men fan boys. So no they will never listen to those of us that actually love and care for the IP. Also nice pic of the Ghost Bear Kodiak..great TRO that was.

I'll always remember ECM being a great example. There was so much information and feedback and it was all ignored and now we haven't had a new ECM mech in forever.

Ah the R&R and Scav bonus always remind me when the game was fun, I loved making mechs surrender. (Shut down and let me leg you and I'll let you live).

Its like being blindfolded on a rollercoaster thats 2m high....All the time you are like "here it comes, here it comes" and then...mehh... I really thought now comes the change, since the got the license renewed from microsoft and all. We even got a nice new community moderator in the german subforum...and now they go back to half ass it...

Given PGI's tract record, and yes, moderate tin foil hat area, I would not be surprised if that re-license was untrue. Not like calling PGI out about it, but like, if it was announced to be untrue, I would be like, "well I'm so surprised!"

I noticed I used "like" 3 times in the previous paragraph. As I am typing with a broken hand please lets assume that it is that and not because I haven't posted on anything in a long while.

Just a thought. 12 Pugs join a lobby and drop together. They win, so they all decide to stay together for the next drop. Shouldn't they be considered a 12 man premade? They fit all the in-game criteria, don't they? (Other than VOIP, but that is not a requirement to form a 12 man group.)

Technically, what we do every night Davers makes us PUGs. On any given night it's us, or Sandpit, or Randalf or Allen, or Vince, Geist, Goathill, DaZur, etc, etc
There is rarely consistency in mechs or players, just whoever happens to stumble into Dropship Bacon.
It's the fact that we're used to playing with each other and use VoIP that we're the Evil Boogeymen

Ok... here is the hard facts... PGI tried to make MW5.. a direct sequel to MW4... Guess what, nobody wanted to finance it. So no matter how good YOU think the game was.. The people with actual money did not feel it was worth investing in.

Or maybe the people with the money investigated PGI and decided PGI wasnt worth investing in.
History has shown us that the IP had a viable fanbase, look at the Founders and Pheonix numbers. Now look at PGI handling of the IP. Guess the investors were right not backing PGI.

The thing that keeps popping into my head is how did these nitwits that are PGI make the game we had in closed beta?

Its been a year and a half since CB ended and what have they done really?

Did all the programmers quit/get fired? Did PGI win the CB of MWO from someone on a bet?

No lobby, no CW, no in game voip, no to groups over 4 or less than 12, no to a simple working UI and, no hope in sight.

The saddest part is they had the perfect roadmap laid out all they needed to do was give us an updated version of 3025 and the Mech Warrior fans would have loved them.

Is it really that strange to need to have the names of people you want to play private matches with? I want a lobby too, but... maybe it's just that I'm old and am thinking of the old direct ip days :D?

its been what almost 3 years and we are still waiting on that general lobby, what did you expect? they put no real effort into the social aspect of the game, and never have. dont expect that to change.

Mechwarrior 1 (1989) remade (1993).

Social aspect: Between missions you can go fix up and tweak your mech or even head to the local bar to chat it up with the tender and other patrons to spread your exploits, listen for rumors, and meet up with people looking to hire a mercenary like yourself while trying to prove your innocence in a crime you were framed for.

Ah... the social aspect: important in games where you can't even play multiplayer, but completely lost on a game in the 'free to play' facade where virtually everything of that genre literally depends on it.

But hey, at least there's a forum for it.

*Le sigh.*

Web development eq of what PGI is doing here is sending an update to a web shop service via email, for the admin to update manually, instead of a built in SOAP/REST call.

I'm impressed, they managed to sink to a new low in programming.

Well, as one of the old White knights who has given up his snowy cloak and stepped down from the podium to join the general public I have to wish my successors good luck in their ventures of blind faith and unfounded hope.

I do have to thank PGI for proving my grandmothers wisdom, given to me as a small child; seeing is believing.

What I see is PGI unable to follow up on what was advertised as MWO before we reach that foggy and mystical land of "Soon™". What I also see is a lot of frustrated "fans" that are constantly getting disappointed. I never played the TT but through the influence of my unit I have read several of the books and researched the lore of the IP and thereby myself now become a "fan" of the IP. My first contact with MW is with MW4 which is pretty "late in the season". What I see is that the "fans" have provided PGI with much more resiliency and loyalty than they have proven they deserve. The "fans" funded this project and continue to fund this project when I read posts that say some people have already given MWO $1200+.

There is a bare minimum to be expected from a MPOG whose focus is on teamwork. Those not playing MWO as a FPS using the other players as their AI-surrogate expect tools to be provided for basic teamwork and basic team play.

These tools have not been provided and the graciously forgiving player base PGI has been undeservingly blessed with make use of 3rd party tools to compensate. By now MWO itself has become the 3rd party tool, the simple vessel to launch your games, since the main portion of your gaming experience is over Smurphy/TS3/MWO Lobby/ etc. That statistical 16% dropping in groups is not mainly due to "individual preference" but rather to lack of in-game social community tools. That 16% is also a direct result of players dropping solo because a good portion or their units have left the game for good because they are not as forgiving as those who remain behind. A lot of units have also lost so many players that they are hard pressed to field enough people for a 4 man let alone a 12 man at any given time. As a previous poster mentioned, 12 PUGs dropping together who decide they want to drop with the same people a second time constitute people who would want/benefit from basic teamwork tools.

Unfortunately for those that are just too stuck with the MW IP to leave they are either forced to grumble and deal with it or become a ghost that haunts the forums every few months to see if things have gotten better. Or we start treating MWO as the third party software it seems to be whose only function is to launch the game and nothing more.

When the time comes for MWO to truely die it won't matter because the team player, IP loving, community will have a stable system set up in the background. The only thing that will change is the "launch program" in the background, be it MWO or MW:LL revived, or whatever. At the every least I know that my unit is involved in more than just MWO so we can have fun playing together in games that are not MWO.

PGI, those CoD/WoT players you are catering to right now are not in for the long haul, they won't have the IP loyalty to support your game long term and will jump from one fad to the other as it suits them. It it also doubtful that that generation gets enough disposable income from their parents to be the kind of financial ressource the IP loving "old players" are/can be. Thoe CoD/WoT players are gong to be hard pressed to decide where to spend the money they do get, especially when MWO offers less than other games on the market.

Wake up guys.

How do they cater to WoT players? Can you specify please? I'm interested because I'm WoT player myself and I don't feel like I'm being catered to.

Ah, I didn't realize this thread was about that, my bad apparently.

The issues became intertwined.

1) We had larger groups sizes.
2) They were taken away 'temporarily.' They were instantly missed.
3) We were told they'd come back, for months.
4) We were told that they'd decided NOT to bring them back. Instead, here's this private match system where you can do it yourself, without the c-bills, experience or matchmaking tools that make it smooth and feel like a 'finished product.'

That's where a lot of the rage is stemming from. All people wanted to do was drop in a group that included all their friends, from 2-11, without having to exclude members or split into a bunch of 2-4 mans. Maybe not everyone agrees, but a number of people felt it was MORE FUN...which is what a game should be about, right?
