Yes, very prudent.
Although, check out the link in my sig to see what RSI has already done for unit support... Anyone can form a unit already, and they basically give you a whole big thing to create your own website for it, with integrated chat and everything.
They do seem to actually know how to make things and get stuff done.
The proof will be in what they deliver with the dogfighting module after PAX. That's when we'll see if they're full of crap or not.

I really wanted a salvage mechanic in MW:O too. I'd settle for a decent lobby.

That was 10 years ago, and even looking at MW:LL it did not in any wya reach the same level of activity that the "old" games did. So looking at it from a financial point of view there was no indication that such a thing would happen again. The IP was dead as a rock and the old community was in a age bracket that investors do not associate with computer gaming. It was simply to much risk to make such a play. It was amuch wiser choice to go the WoT route and then add on to that. After all WoT (and similar games) was doing very good.
As you said.. without the community those lobbies did not do much. Same thing will happen now. The community will step in and fill the void. )
Ok AlexxEss let me explain something to you! First off PGI/IGP had 3 great game model designs in MW2-MW4 plus all the expansions and even the MechTech Mod to use as examples as what a MechWarrior game should be core designed upon. One was game of the year and the other in the top10 for there years.
Being brilliant like PGI/IGP is they threw all that out the window and said hey lets make a WOT=WorldOfTanks clone with mechs and lets throw in some FPS/COD elements which MWO turned out more a FPS masked as a team game when in fact it is not.MWO is simply a FPS game with mechs with lumped in players into a queue more like a random free for all that a team based competitive game.
The past MechWarrior games were a proven winner as far as core game design and social implementation. You could make a MechWarripor2-MechWarrior4 updated clone and it would have been better than MWO is right now and more popular with old fans and new players. So I really have to disagree with you on your posts.
Ok... here is the hard facts... PGI tried to make MW5.. a direct sequel to MW4... Guess what, nobody wanted to finance it. So no matter how good YOU think the game was.. The people with actual money did not feel it was worth investing in.
So that is the simple bottom line. People not affected by nostalgia saw no value in the MW games. So you said they "threw" it out. But what option did they have... It was either adapt or no MechWarrior.
Maybe some other studio could have made a better case... or fronted all the costs them self... But it seems that nobody was interested in making either.
So yeah... You have a great emotional attachment to the old games, that is good... But it is a horrid place to make real hard decisions on. Did PGI oversell MW:O... Without a doubt.. Have that came back and bit them in the posterior... 100% but on the bright side we now have a good solid base for a game. that might turn out to be fantastic. Or it dies... But the matter of fact is that if you would have been in charge we would have no game at all. That is a fact, based on what fate befell MW5.

Except for those of us who donated millions of dollars to them through the founder's program.

Soooo what's their excuse now?
None, but I'm sure you'll white knight up a good reason.

No this was long before that... The first teaser trailer with the fight in the city was for a planned MW5 game. It did not get picked up so they reworked it in to MW:O... The rest is history

Nope... They pretty much are out of excuses. By now things are in pretty much panik mode... As i said before. Just the fact that they have to choose between CW or Lobby is a clear indication of that. The whole one year delay is another. I never argued that. I am just enough of a realist... partially from experience and partially from education that i simply know that there is no point in arguing what could have been done nor is there any point to work on what pretty much is QoL issues such as a lobby or more advanced matchmaker beyond what is planned until one of the biggest core features are in.
That is all i am saying, and that is simply me acknowledging how.. as one of my professors would have said it... Deep in the shit PGI is... I just don´t see any point in yelling at the,as that very rarely motivate people.

AlexEss please you really are misinformed my friend The original MechWarrior5 was canceled by Microsoft because the source code was stolen and given to outside personnel at that same time Xbox was becoming popular and Microshaft decided to make the MechAssault series instead. The reason for that was valid security concerns for PC software that a Xbox version did not have.
And if I had made MWO I assure you I would have made mistakes but It would have been a true MechWarrior successor with many options that MWO is lacking now. Shall we make a list of missing game content??

Again you are talking about something that happend 10+ years ago... I am talking about when PGI tried to reboot MW5... We are talking about different things... Any way i can see that you are intent on working this form a pure emotional point of view. So i guess we are done. It was a good discussion.
Just two small tips. A: Use the quote button when qouting and don´t post a huge image in every post unless it is actually vital to your post.

First off PGI/IGP never tried to revive a MechWarrior5 it was (Smith&Tinker) The original MW5 was in pre production when it was canceled and Microsoft still has the core game on there shelf. We are talking about PGI/IGP's true lack of knowledge about the MechWarrior franchise and instead of gaining the knowledge to make a true MechWarrior successor instead stole and cloned =(World Of Tanks) with mechs. You asked what can be done now to help the game survive and grow? Build a true Clone like MSN gamming Zone and let the community get involved in leagues,RolePlay and all the things that make MechWarrior =MechWarrior.
Plus im a nostalgic MechWarrior pilot that likes to post MechWarrior pics and information hahaha.

Why can't we can put unit tags on the forums and in game? I know you could do it through the sig, but seriously... why can't we have nice things?
