Yay! We get to use 3rd party software to find matches in the Private Queue.

Way to phone it in PGI.

He also said they are likely going to add it in. SO LOL LOL LOL. Also I don't want random people in my "Private" match.

Podium gladly relinquished...

White is one of those colors (or absence there of to be accurate) that becomes more gray than white over time... Especially with all the mud slinging that takes place around here.

Nah, you're thinking of a queue. A lobby is simply where you organize groups for a match.

Oh good, well we've had that since CB, with a "working" chat system as well. No wonder Russ is excited about it

Everyone seems to have a different definition of a lobby.

From this post

Quote

In this lobby, the creator of the lobby (group leader) will have to invite the rest of the players to fill out the full 24-man match. Inviting a group leader to a private lobby will pull that leader and his group into the Lobby provided there is room.

Russ sees the Lobby as basically just the pre-match screen where you can organize the teams and set the rules for the game. CLEARLY, this is not the same thing that comes to mind for the rest of us. Many of us were clearly hoping for more, like the ability to see any other groups in the private match side of the game. Hopefully they add something like this down the road, whenever that turns out to be.

It's taken them almost 18 months to realize, "Hey, we should add some functionality to allow specific groups that want to play against each other to do so, without having the chance of matching up against some random team and wasting all of their time, driving them away from the game. In the meantime, let's get working on a great Community Warfare..."

Did you really expect all of your hopes and dreams to be satisfied?

Because extra functionality is bad. I hear ya and I agree with you that they should stop all development work and just put out more mechs.

In fairness... We've been fueled by those very hopes and dreams for over two years.

Any sustenance consumed for that long will eventually become unappetizing and shunned...

I suspect it'll be less.

Let's say me and my 4 buddies want to play together. Currently, we just run two groups, a pair and three, but that's decidedly not ideal. Private matches will let usbplay together at last, yay!

Except that no, they won't, unless we happen to know 19 other available players who can join us. It's not enough to just get your own team of 12, you need to find an opposing team too!

So... We'll just keep dropping public, and PGI will, in its wisdom, assume that's because we don't want a group of 5.

Quit your whining and play a 2v3 game.

At this point, I'm convinced that's by design.

"Phone it in" is all PGI knows how to do.

That nifty little box that pops up when you launch to let you select the game mode?

USELESS. Why? Because it doesn't remember your previous selection. The game can remember what Mech I had selected, so it can damn well remember what game mode I had selected as well. Except that PGI doesn't have the competence to think that far ahead.

So now, every time I launch, I have two extra clicks that I have to go through for no good reason in order to launch.

Seriously, PGI, that's just incompetent.

Dat feeling when you can't like a post more than once.

It is so true that the MWO community is experiencing feelings similar to the ones seen in that movie. Let's hope we're not at the "Because I wanted to destroy something beautiful" -phase yet... (e.g. alpha-striking the back of that Ember in front of you when the timer reaches zero

There's a part of me that really wants to do that in a game now, just so I'm reported with a screenshot that the dev gets to read that goes something like:

Dead guy: "WTF! WHY YOU TK?"
Me: "I just wanted to destroy something beautiful."

The private queue is for people to invite friends they know to play in private matches. It was never advertised to do anything other than that. All it's ever been described as is just a sandbox for people to use with their friends...not a directory to search for new friends.

The public queues are where matchmaker finds players for you to play against.

Again, this another reason why they MUST have a solo only queue and groups (2-12) queue. Forcing groups of 5-11 into private matches is lame and will only cause more confusion, alienation and discontentment.

Who said anything about fixing stuff being bad? I get the distinct feeling you missed his point. The maybe they will add in proper functionality that Russ spoke of in his twitter post is of a nebulous possibility in the future. They have said they would fix SRMs soon for a long time now, and CW was only 90 days away 2 years ago. Some vague promise of things to come is hardly something people should be excited for in particular when what they say they are going to do so often changes in such horrendous ways much like with this launch module.

Here's the thing. We HAD open-number public queues, and they took them away temporarily.
Instead of returning them to us we're told "Here's Private matches."

So, we were expecting and WANTING larger groups in a random, public queue with a matchmaker, and instead we are getting larger groups in a Private Match setup with NO matchmaking tools, no rewards, and necessary premium time. That sucks.

Yeah... i think we all knew this is how it would go down...

PGI has no interest in building a community.. because communities demand stuff... stuff that you have to work on... wich costs time and money... time and money that could be spend on churning out more pay for items.

Seriously thought.. they want to make us PAY for advanced options in private matchmaking... and cant even provide a match finder or something that has been BASIC SHIT for the last 10 years of online gaming?

the point I'm missing is yours. If a vague promise isn't something to get excited over, why is it valid to get excited over something not coming that wasn't promised? The point I've been trying to make is that this thread is just silly qq.

Because the removal of something that was promised is necessitating something to make up the difference.

Horrible Analogy: You are walking with a friend. He has an umbrella with you, because it looks like rain. Your friend says "No worries, you can share mine if it rains."

It rains. He then not only choose not to share his umbrella, he doesn't give you the smaller umbrella he has in his pocket. He also takes your hoodie for a bit, because he's cold.

He then helpfully points out a Target about a mile down the road that sells umbrellas, and suggests you avail yourself of their services.

PGI should have listened way back in =(Closed Beta) about a lot of things from proper balance to a true MSN Gamming Zone type lobby for private matches,Leagues and socialization. Now that were down to 25% of the actual playing players we had at the start of Closed Beta maybe they will start to listen to there true fans and the Old Guard players.
