I didn't see the idea so I can't comment on it. My point was just showing how PGI has done their best to take the team out of team oriented gaming

ahhh ok

There's nothing wrong with his idea
except

I'm tired of having to go out of my way to form a team, play as a team, etc. simply because PGI is either oblivious or incompetent in being able to develop tools like this for a team oriented game.

In other words, it's great and it's a great way for the community to take it upon themselves but I'll be damned if I'm going to keep paying PGI money when I could take that money and put it into donating to projects like Bravo's, other games, my unit, etc.
They could have completely stopped development on this game nearly a year ago (with the exception of adding new mechs to the lineup) and the community could have put together its own CW. It makes zero sense for me to spend money on something I can play for free and that I'm going to have to use numerous 3rd party tools and software just to be able to play it in a unit.

It's ridiculous that in 2014, a multi-million dollar game development company can't understand or implement something as simple as a lobby system and make putting together a game intuitive and add voip or at least a command bloom of some kind after 2 years of development.

It's ridiculous that a multi-million dollar game development company moved out of beta without rudimentary communication tools like this when it is pretty much the industry standard.

Oh I couldn't agree more with what you're saying. You're preaching to the choir. Remember MWO is brought to you by the same people who brought you http://www.ign.com/c...s/jarhead-games :| So a little improv may be required. We (community) might want to think of something before the crap hits the fan on the 29th lol

I would honestly be all for it except it's completely pointless at this point. As of now if you group larger than 4 you can't participate in CW, can't earn cbills, can't earn exp, can't buy new mechs, can't master mechs, can't advance pilots, so you COULD build your own league but there's zero reason to as it stands.
Oh AND you have to carry premium time in order to change rules to fit a private league.
While earning no bonuses after PAYING for that premium time.

I would LOVE to be able to say "Screw PGI" and help run a player league and do CW with no resources (let alone millions of dollars) just to show PGI how easy it would really be when you stop thinking "This is what MY "vision" for the game is" and start thinking more along the lines of putting something together for a massive audience.

IF (and that's a HUGE if at this point)
Things change and private matches become viable (as in you can actually earn basic "rewards" like exp and cbills because "rewards" that are required to advance in teh game at all aren't what I consider "rewards" but more of a requirement) I'll happily donate my time, energy, any expertise I might have, etc. into developing a league where I don't have to put up with PGI's "vision" anymore

I was pointing out that a player could become very good but not have the elo to reflect it.

View PostRoadbeer, on 07 April 2014 - 08:48 AM, said:

The inverse of that is that it also allows players to "game their Elo", which is, apparently an acceptable form of exploiting the system, but generating too many Cbills or XP isn't.

Regardless, it's an excellent question Bob, and I posed it to Russ on Twitter, I'll keep you posted

Finally got word back from Russ

https://twitter.com/...682061115121664

So, go nuts, apparently some forms of exploitation are Ok or not a concern

Exploits that fit into PGI's "vision" for the game are ok. I've slowly come to that realization. They're too hung up on developing the game to fit into their vision. They don't stop to think that their vision isn't always a customer's vision. So now they want you to spend hundreds of dollars on their product but would they do the same?

If I had done what they've done for two years now, changed my position, told paying customers they were on islands, changed core fundamental game functions, retracted advertised features numerous times, etc. would THEY be comfortable handing me a couple of hundred dollars in the hopes that I might at some point, maybe, half-ass a feature they were all but promised two years ago? I doubt it

And flash forward 3 hours and now there WON'T be Elo adjustments from Private Matches.

Whatever

dude, that's exactly why I don't really bother asking them anymore

Russ actually said "What guesswork? All questions answered"
so after pointing out 4-5 questions that still remain that we've been asking since the launch module announcement I got no reply. I mean seriously? All questions answered????

They haven't answered anything yet except announcing the rule of 3 and group limits remaining. Although Paul did say in teh CC post that everyone will affect CW so I don't know anymore. I guess my confusion is due to my own stupidity as opposed to vague communication and details from the dev team....

This is not a problem as win farming with alts to beef up ELO would be really lame.

I'm not saying it's a problem.
What I'm saying is in the span of 3 hours he completely reversed his position, which again, I wouldn't care about given the onslaught he received for it, but at least ACKNOWLEDGE that you changed your mind based on overwhelming evidence that it was a bad decision.
Don't just come off as "No, plebeians, you lack the ability to comprehend my lofty words, I meant this..."

Russ has a history of talking too much on social media/in the press so take what he says with a grain of salt. That right there is the source of probably 8/10 missed "deadlines".

Hell with it! I ******* give up. After Paul's bullshit about the CW-that-never-will-be, and this private match **** fest, I don't have a reason to play anymore.

Back to MW2,

Thanks for ******* it all up. See you in 2024 for the next mechwarrior

Except you're a "white knight" if you don't bash PGI repeatedly or wail and flail and doom and gloom. Better yet, if you just enjoy playing the game you're a white knight nowadays. Then if you're unhappy with something in the game someone's always trying to "make a name" by bashing one of the "old guard".

It's just like the whole "op" thing. I don't think a lot of people throwing those terms around have any idea on what they actually mean. :)

I've never been one to indiscriminately bash the devs. I've been positive when then make changes that are good or release content that's good. And negative when the changes are bad.

I love Crimson Strait, it's a good map. I heartily approve that they've added a pile of medium mechs finally. I strongly dislike the Victor changes that force it into a poptart mode if you don't want a very difficult game. I strongly dislike they constant failure to include the setting meaningfully. I strongly dislike the sheer boredom of playing death match after deathmatch without my friends. The video logs are a good example. Everyone just LOVED the first one because we're bored for information, and I just didn't see it. The second one was much better and I praised the video for the improvement.

Too bad I'm invested in the game, and I like the setting. All you old guard troll's aren't bad chaps either. So at least Forum Warrior online is free and mildly entertaining still.

I've been working on a long, long post lately... what my vision of the game and community warfare would be. It's way more fun thinking about what would be the game I'd LOVE to play instead of playing the game I have right now.

I'm still pretty sure Smith & Tinker created the groundwork for MW:O. If you go look at the history of this game, they were the original developers, who then teamed with PGI...and then bowed out of the project.
"Bowed out"? Why?

Troll is another word that gets thrown around too often. If you don't agree with someone then you're trolling them usually lol

now don't get me wrong, I can troll with the best of them but most of the time I'm just giving my viewpoint on the topic until I start getting attacked personally or the OP is something along the lines of "Arghgghgh #@$% PGI! This game sucks! Fix it!"
Then it's game on lol
oh and K Town of course :)

Well, I use it fondly for you and Roadbeer. You're sort of gentlemen trolls by internet standards. Using sarcasm, irony, and facts rather than pure vitriol implies a level of classiness.

I'm also betting this results in a response about how you're not really a smart ass because they're xyz...
