I admit it... I dont read the forums frequently so I might missed it.
But I cant remember when they said something about Private Matches in combination with Lobby...

In fairness, they keep referring to a Lobby, in Paul's LM post it mentions is, in Russ's NGNG 105 interview he mentions it, and in occasional tweets we get "just played in the lobby and it's pretty cool" or something like that.

But I think what they're calling a lobby and what almost everyone familiar with the term as it's been used in the past were expecting are two wildly different things.

If we make the private function so private and un-user friendly and super difficult nobody will use it.....then in three months we can say we're removing it because nobody used it!
Just like we put in third person when 90% didn't want it and nobody uses it!

It's funny you guy's go on about PGI saying a lobby, PGI will never implement a true lobby system because people won't return to their game modes in the open que.

So we have again another instance of bad communications it seems.

That we played with 1200 baud modems that plugged directly into the wall.

Ah yes, the good old days. I have vague memories of using a 300 baud modem as well, though I think that was only for BBSs and not gaming.

That nifty little box that pops up when you launch to let you select the game mode?

USELESS. Why? Because it doesn't remember your previous selection. The game can remember what Mech I had selected, so it can damn well remember what game mode I had selected as well. Except that PGI doesn't have the competence to think that far ahead.

So now, every time I launch, I have two extra clicks that I have to go through for no good reason in order to launch.

For the record, this has been either hot-fixed behind the scenes or stealthed into some other patch. The UI now remembers your last selection(s) in the game mode menu.

Well no actually. It only (now) remembers if you are dropping solo. If you are dropping in a group the group leader still has to select each time.

More proof that PGi hates groups and wants them gone.

No... it's just a minimally viable update. :)

Correction: It has only been fixed for solo drops. Still doesn't remember your last selected game mode if you're in a group.

Which may have been the case all along, as most nights I only play one way or the other. So it's entirely possible that they haven't changed anything at all.

Edit: Splitpin beat me to it.

Sooooooooooooo

We have an online
multiplayer
pvp
mmo
persistent campaign and universe
team oriented game

that has
no lobbies
can't team up past 4
can't easily and intuitively form a private match in game without 3rd party crap

Sound about right?

This is becoming a bad joke.....

I didn't see the idea so I can't comment on it. My point was just showing how PGI has done their best to take the team out of team oriented gaming
