Thank you :)

I'll give that a go -- I think the patience thing is the biggest difficulty, plus feeling a bit silly hiding behind a rock for 5min in a 100 tonner until there's an opportunity to get up close.

Thanks! I do like the idea of making the D-DC a little more medrange -- plus it'll give me a 'break' from the close-range focus of the other two variants. The 4ASRM6 -S variant looks like it could be terrifying <200m. Will give that a try too.

Your welcome! Use the LL and the AC5 to strip and finish them off with a salvo of your powerful SRMs!

And its a true generalist build!

I had to put the Twerking Atlas in! Totally forgot about it.

Shortened the guide. It's getting fairly long. Would love to make video's about it. But i am no man for editting and or making videos unfortunatly. I hope its readable.

More is comming later this month.

The twerking atlas is veeery veerrry slow for me - I'm on cable, so I don't know why.

I haven't even gone over most of the guide; but the sheer production value speaks volumes of the time and effort spent to put it together - well done.

PS: you will not, however, ever see me use LRMs with my Atlases, particularly the D-DC; I don't have the hardpoints or space for that.

Thanks!

Ha, i got a couple LRMs. Especially on a K with Artemis its not that bad. With a gauss rifle plus your high mount LRM rack is pretty usefull. Now i say carefully gauss rifle. You have to know what you are doing. (Ugh the painfully low slung arms) Or you could use it with a AC10.

Point is i shoot my missiles arounds objects with the high mount. That particulary K saved my butt a couple of times.

But i am not very fond of recommending LRM10x3 on a D-DC or S LRM5x4 for example. That is a waste in my opinion. I agree. The LRM10x3 i use for fun.

Yeah, I haven't used a Gauss on my Atlas since the charge nerf. It's too low-slung, so I'm stuck fighting dakka mechs (and more recently Clanners) with more firepower at long range - all while having to expose most of my slow 100-tonner just to clear my guns.

I've tried all sorts of engagement strategies with LRMs, but nothing gets me the results of the ASRMs.

Yeah can imagine that.

I will wait giving out builds. I think it's wise to wait for rebalance patch first. This- or next month.

See in theory, taking a rack of LRMs can help with the low slung portion and allow you to put out at least a little DPS during the portion of the engagement where the atlas is weakest. It does come at the coast of being less effective at your optimal range though. I've also noticed that it can be more difficult having more firing groups and unless you are always running dry on lrm ammo (effectively as well) it's hard to make it worth the weight And hard point cost. That said, it can be a great way for a newer pilot to soak up some weight when you are using the stock 300 engine as the lrm15 weighs more than an srm6.

I'd still save up for the STD 350 though, and then transition off the lrm rack until you feel comfortable mixing it in again if you really feel it is necessary.

It's not a bad idea for specialist LRM carriers to play Atlas wingman. If I can locate the assault mechs I like to trail behind about 200 meters and wait for the fight to start.

When an angry Atlas finds a fight I can snug my Catapult up on the other side of a bridge or behind a rock or nearby building, and make it rain on whoever he's brawling with...and bonus: if I do that, even if he isn't locking his targets I'm typically close enough to get a visual lock, or to TAG his target if I'm lucky. Artemis launchers inside 500 meters are usually shooting pretty tight groups, leading to good damage. I backed an Atlas S in the canyons today on one map and helped him take down a Dire Wolf and a Warhawk!

Catapults can gain half a second/launch by manually opening missile hatches. Press / on your keyboard.

I like to pack enough armor on my LRM-boaty Orion to play bait and swi...nah, really it's just bait. Lob enough LRMs for someone to believe you're a total boat (3 15-tube launchers), then watch as they get in range and discover that it takes a while to get through all that armor, while your nearby company mates are pounding on them (with the pair of LLs I mount hitting them as well). Staying out of fire's way is better, but it's nice to be tough enough to go toe-to-toe with somebody long enough for your friends to kill them, as well.

Oh, I'm quite familiar with the theory - in practice, I've found it best to just build the Atlas right. =)

The Atlas' limited number and placement of hardpoints means that it is space-limited on what it can bring - and LRMs scale heavily with larger launchers. This means that if you try to pack on enough firepower to fight at both close and long ranges, you run into massive efficiency issues: either you're cripplingly slow, or you're severely heat-limited, or else you're a heat-efficient Medium at all ranges. There's really no avoiding hobbling yourself unless you focus on one range - and with your low-slung hardpoints and limited energy mounts, the most effective range by far is "short-to-mid."

And if I'm in your group you won't go into the breach alone. Look for the big ears right behind you, looking to rain hot death on whoever you're tanking...if I can get close enough to slip behind a rock or building nearby and get a lock on without getting face melted on the way :)

Yes even though a successful atlas tank has a slim chance of surviving a spear head push, if you can get their whole team to turn and engage you, using any bit of cover (even enemy mechs) in their midst, you can provide amazing opportunities for your team to take advantage of.

After rebalance i will give this thread another overhaul with videos, GIFs more how-to, tips and explain how for example the RS should be played. It asks a little different piloting then for example the D or the D-DC.

Takes some significant amount of work, but i like it, the feedback and appreciations so far encourages me to put more work in it.

Untill then we meet again! :)

Have been polishing the guide alot today. Took almost a full day of work. Overhaul is already huge. But it looks so much better. The different playstyles can be seen and it looks much cleaner due all that table work.

The amount of work for tables made me throw up though. :)
