Thats not true, PGI only needs to promote the spirit of squadplay. Works fine in Planetside 2.

Most of the things you guys mentioned like muting players (also a proper order system) and squad / company based communication are already considered by PGI. (NGNG Podcast)

What I'd really like to see is a mentoring system. I saw that on dota 2. You can observe a certain player that queued up in that special queue and he gets a observer he can talk to and recive help and tips. Some preconditions should be fulfilled of course and it all must be designed beforehand. (he still drops into public matches if that was not clear, the special queue only grants him an observer)

I don't see a problem with dead people talking. Teams should know what went wrong, get additional infos after your death and well.. Know when they failed.^^ Lorewise you ejected from your mech, otherwise you couldn't keep playing on the same account... We also need an animation for that...^^

Great news, but...
two questions?
1. will it be soontm? before all the other promises or after?
2. will it follow current GUI logic? <mute player? [ok] you really sure? [yes][no]

Probably not. I think a good design would be that you can mute players on the battlegrid (the map) by klicking on a speaker icon behind their name. This should be saved so that you won't have to bother with that player again.

i hope they include channels... group channel / lance channel and team channel that can be enabled or disabled separately.
if i remember correctly, it was mentioned in the interview that they are considering different layers of voip for lance / team / all ...etc...

You don't need to be a time traveler to know how the forum works. :)

I hope they add shortcuts to mute each player!!! So i can build a dashboard for my mech cockpit to mute players quickly. Also please show which player talks. So i can quickly find all anoying players and mute them.

Other than chipmunks and people who just cant shut up after they derped themselves to death and tell everyone else what to do...It will be a welcome addition. I can see it helping clueless nOObs the most.

Coordination!

Ventrilo, TeamSpeak 3, Mumble.

Why insist on re-inventing the wheel?

Put in VOIP to your game when everyone is already using the other VOIPs, why would they switch to the in game VOIP?

They wouldn't... PUGs however do have a disadvantage that can make the game frustrating if you let it.

Hush... there is a new player, without a team or squad, who desperately needs this so they can ask "WTF is happening" audibly instead of in chat. This new player will leave without it, its now on the front burner. You don't want to chase away "new player" do you?

Prepare your ears for 12-year-olds screaming at your how 1337 they are.

I never wanted VoIP and I will turn it off instantly.

Because you can't get people outside your group into a channel that contains your entire team, of course. Like every match currently on the servers save 12-mans.

Folks like this are what I like to call "free kills" to a VoIP-coherent group, as they're slower to react than anyone else. Regardless of actual skill, communication is a massive advantage if one side cannot or will not take advantage of it.

I thnk you miss one imortant point here - VoIP will not fix the main problems of pugs - the lack of situational awareness. In some cases it might get better but that will be the exception. Still there will be a lot of people who simply do what they want - wether someone gives commands / hints via VoIP or not.

Just look at the current situation on TT - 8-10 mechs at the entrace to the caldera standing in each others way - will be fun to listen to them shouting at each other to get out of the way - or to listen to 2 12-year-old-wannabe-commanders shouting at each other ...

Long story short: If VoIP really comes I will turn it off completly - in case this is not possible I'll quit MWO. Even the possibility to mute certain people would not be enough here - I don't want to mute 11 or 3 other people at the begin of the each match.

Won't VOIP increase situation awareness if used correctly?

I think the point is that Miles doesn't think PUGs CAN use VOiP correctly. That is victim thinking from my Command Couch.

"**** you, don't tell me what to do"
"Then get out of my area, why are you a jerk? Why are you on comms?"
