Nice work! Just found this today. When will you be adding in the Shadowhawk Mastery Pack?

Thanks, and 'next couple of weeks'

Thanks for this. Please take a moment to add the Raven and other Mastery Packs when you can find time.

Again, thanks for doing the heavy lifting on this - very useful!

Righty, behold the glory of way-more-minutes-work-than-I-want-to-admit-to-because-the-maths-was-actually-quite-simple-once-I-started-thinking-right that is the Cbills Packs Or Premium Time MC To Cbills Efficiency Grid

Posted Image

If you estimate that you average daily Cbill take in would be higher than the number listed for the duration of your premium time purchase then it is a more efficient MC return to buy premium time.

Good, clear maths there. Thanks! Goes for the whole thread really, thorough and accurate.

One big limitation I see though is that buying c-bills is one of the poorest value options available. So it makes the choice to buy premium time seem artificially favourable, because it doesn't consider (for example) that you could just buy the mechs directly.

This leads me to offer some less precise maths to answer the question:
Q: What things in MWO can be considered good value?

Looking at some options:
1. Best possible c-Bills purchase (based on 6.5m MC, with 25,000MC package) - ~400,000 cbills/$
2. Random mech (Highlander 733C, bought with 25,000MC package) - ~625,000 cbills/$
3. Spider-5K Champion (At least 5,100,000cbills worth* for 1235MC, bought from 25000MC) ~ 1,030,000 cbills/$

A: So, considering sales are not that rare, in my opinion. I see 500K/$ as a bog standard base value and 1million/$ as being the starting point of good value. Below that level, I'll normally play for something whilst offers above this mark normally induce me to buy (if it's something I want). Occasionally, you'll get a perfect storm of deals, giving you 2million+ per dollar, at which point I'll impulse buy.

*Spider value calc
2,452K for basic SDR-5K
+ 4,165K for XL255
-1,427K for STD 240
(Ignoring champ's XP boost and weapons)

PGI made the conversion efficiency for purchases weak/the MC purchase a 'stop-gap' rather than regular use option, so that the majority of the time people would be playing to get their C-Bills rather than directly paying. As such it is not a 'poor' option, it is a 'strong' game design choice (can't find the reference, it was in a "WHY YOU MAKE PAY-TO-WIN!!11!!" thread)

All prices and rates in this game are "artificial" as it's about the creation of virtual items with virtual rarity so I'm really not able to see the usefulness of that term. There is minimal real-world production cost difference between a Locust 1V and a DireWolf B but you are paying 16,450,251 C-Bills more

The Battlemaster 1S, because you are getting 2507.82 CBills per MC spent.

Anything involving a dollar price is bundle dependent, and it's always most efficient to buy the 25k pack. At that range you are looking at $0.40 per 100 MC, getting a 7485829 CBill mech as $11.93 means you are paying $1 per 627,479.38 CBills.

Your average is 2496.21 CBills per MC (using the mechs as the range), with your 25000 pack working out at $0.003998 per MC, I got the result as $1.60 giving you around a million CBills of purchasing power. The Locust 1-V is $2.24 for 1388242 CBills of Mech, which is about $0.02 off that marker so I think it's a workable figure. If the conversions were more regimented then it would be easier.

Quick heads up on the Battle of Tukayyid sale

$99.95 package - $0.333 per 100 MC
$49.95 package - $0.346 per 100 MC
$29.95 package - $0.384 per 100 MC
$14.95 package - $0.415 per 100 MC
$6.95 package - $0463 per 100 MC

If you want the year's subscription you can either buy a $99.95 package and get it for $55.93 or a $49.95 and $49.95 package ($79.90 total) and get it for $60.46

There's more tiers of Colour and Camo now.

Faction Colours and Camo's cost more.
Faction Camo is 1500MC / 150MC
I think Faction Colours might be 1250 (if available?), but being I have them all atm it's hard to confirm....

Camo is added, can't find any colours above 1000. If you get a sold reference then let me know.

Update: Origins IIC pack
Whilst we don't know what the MC price of the mechs are yet I've done some calculations and can give you the MC values of the pre-order bonuses.

Jenner Pack - 3900 MC
Hunchback Pack - 9050 MC
Orion Pack - 14200 MC
Highlander Pack - 20600 MC

These are some considerable packages, ranging from $17.97 to almost $82.35 worth of freebies (based on buying a enough MC in one lump to purchase the items directly).

The preorder bonuses are also good, with them giving 5800MC, 6100MC, 6400MC and 6700MC of freebies before the mechs are taken into account, so around $29.95 of extra stuff.

WILD SPECULATION ZONE

The value of the mechs themselves is difficult to estimate, as we don't know the half of what is going to be happening with them. However, on purely speculative grounds if we assume parity with existing Clan mechs of the same similar weight (Adder for the Jenner, Nova for the Hunchback, Timberwolf for the Orion, Warhawk for the Highlander) we can get a guesstimation of MC values around the region of the following:

Jenner IIC - 2765 MC
Hunchback IIC - 3736 MC
Orion IIC - 6008 MC
Highlander IIC - 6277 MC

This puts the MC value of each pack at
Jenner IIC - 12195 MC of stuff (20760 MC pre-order). or 610 MC per dollar (1038 pre order)
Hunchback IIC - 28553 MC of stuff (41154 MC pre-order) or 714 MC per dollar (1028 pre order)
Orion IIC - 51727 MC of stuff (70636 MC pre-order) or 862 MC per dollar (1177 pre order)
Highlander IIC - 76958 MC of stuff (140016 Pre-order) or 962 MC per dollar (1750 pre order)

Given that the best conversion rate available (MC25000 for $99.95) is 250 MC per dollar this puts the packs into anything from around a third to around a seventh of the price if you were to buy if you were to do it with MC as separates.

As to if it is worth it: I leave that to the buyer to decide

Time to answer that most burning of questions: how good value are the Mastery Packs?

Short answer: very.

They are generally half price, so not only do you get a slight discount on the hero and champion mechs you essentially get a standard variant, a punch of mechbays, and 30 days of members for for free!! Centurion is best at 2,00231 times discount, Atlas is worst at 1.90843 times discount. However when the Atlas pack is 1920MC less than the Atlas AS7-RS C and Boar's Head bought as separates it's still in the "cheaper by far" category

Thanks! Hate to admit but i knew the Atlas was always too expensive to begin with for what you get in return: it's terrible.

Even with 50% off for example on the BH it's in my opinion still not worth it.

I still need to buy the BH somehow. But not for these prices or seperate.

worth is always a matter of opinion and, IMO, the buyer is always right if they are happy with the transaction. thus I only discuss the values and calculated prices on this thread,as personally I wouldn't spend real money on half mechs out there because I've never really enjoyed playing lights or assaults.

Have to get some time to do the maths but the new Performance Packs looks a reasonable discount: the Assault pack is approx $105 of bits of $60.00, which is nice, although you have to buy 4 additional mechs to max out the skills/potential so aren't looking as groovy as the Mastery packs on that front.
