That's very nice of PGI to help me elite Thunderbolts by giving away a free variant with mechbay. Well, five wins isn't strictly speaking free, but it's not a hard price to pay either. It's a good way to get new players like me to invest more time in the game now and maybe some real money later on.

My guess would be they found people actually tend to play the game more once they get past the initial training period and learn how to play. By making these events they inspire people to play more and get better at it - thus making their enjoyment of the core game better.

Free mech events = more players = more profit....

I fled to reddit after they nuked General Discussion, and I'm now over at /r/OutreachHPG. Not as much useless whine, not nearly as much uninformed bullshit, there are no restrictions on posting hidden shit found in game data files, and the moderation consists of me and a couple other awesome guys committed to making it a place for up-to-date news and meaty discussion. Though you can also check out /r/mwo - the angry and unsatisfied sub with no moderation. It's where Victor Morson and the like have ended up.

Even with the return of General Discussion, I just can't see myself coming back here for much despite missing more than a few of you. This place is, has always been, and will always be a bit of a cesspool. I show up for a few brief moments here and there, but Outreach is my home now.
