I use it to peek over hills every now and then. I don't need it for guiding my mech and I run default camo anyways.

My question to you is why you felt the need to voice your opinion to these 3pv pilots that there was a better view for them to use? It is your opinion that 1pv is better, and that's it - your opinion. The most popular and occupied servers in MW4:Mercs were 3rd Person view and many of us coming from that game are used to playing in 3rd Person.

I think he was just letting them know that if they want to do well they should try first person view.

I'll use it to look at my 'mech in the first couple seconds of a match, if I'm bored, just for kicks.

I assumed they were noobs that didn't even know there was a 1st person view, so I was telling them there was. I suppose I was a bit biased in saying "It's better for combat", but judging from the response from...well, EVERYONE WHO PLAYS MWO, I'm probably in the right there.

It sounds like you took personal offense to this. Are you a 3PV player? If so, why is my "opinion" that 1PV is superior wrong? What are the reasons a player should stick to 3PV in combat?

Sometimes I like harassing in light mechs with flamers so it works pretty good for me because I'm not blinded by my own flamer.

Interesting idea. I suppose that could help if you're eating a facefull of missiles or AC, too.

To occasional look at my paint job.

To be a sneaky sneaky Jump Sniper and peak over hills if I have zero idea what could be waiting for me.

After it came out it was nice to see that it was almost useless, although it can still confer an advantage when peeking over hills/buildings or corners.

Now I simply stare at the 3PV button and use it as a reminder that nothing the Developers promise, like "First person only is a pillar of this game", is necessarily true or going to happen.

Well, in all fairness, the lead developer said it was more or less imposed by external business partners. And admittedly it could have been implemented in a way that gave a significant advantage.

In return, in all fairness that just sounds like someone passing the buck.

I know. It's sad we cannot tell which is which anymore, isn't it ?

However, since I find both equally possible, I choose to believe the former. What can I say, I am a trusting king of guy.

I don't use 3PV because when I play Super Mario Cart, I actually play Super Mario Cart.

And if PGI actually implemented 3PV because of "external business partners", they should have said so, so the resulting ire could have been passed up the line to IGP
