never has no one been ever SO RIGHT then Mack... almost two years later we STILL haven't seen anything that they said they were going to put into this game "90 days after release"

Revenue alone is not a good indicator of a companies wealth and profitability. We have no insight into their overhead or net margin dollars. We also don't know if Mechwarrior online is even their sole project right now and if it isn't, how much of their spendable budget is allocated to this project.

From the wiki page, past and current projects of PGI:
Bass Pro Shops: The Strike (Xbox 360, Wii, Windows)
Duke Nukem Forever (Windows, Xbox 360, PS3)
MechWarrior Online (Windows)
Die Hard: Nakatomi Plaza (Windows)
EA Playground (Nintendo DS)
Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 (PSP)
Need For Speed: Undercover (PSP)
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (Windows, Xbox 360, PS3)
Bass Pro Shops: The Hunt (Xbox 360, Wii, PC)

Ahhhhh Well True but yes it does, when it came from Bloomberg financial pages and such....

I would love to see investment reports on IGP, I would look at becoming an investor myself ( with my Monocle slightly raised )

But being the IGP/PGI are privately held companies with (I am guessing here) private investors (that are not made public)

There really is little financial news to gauge anything except Tax reports.......

Those are (I believe) are public

Although, that might be just plain olive green that looks like the gold in the shade.

I don't doubt the source, but taxable revenue is still not their EBITDA. It is a good indicator year over year though if they are trending up or down on their revenue stream.

Private investors is an interesting concept here. Not all privately held companies do have private investors, unless of course you count the business owners and their families themselves. If PGI does have investors, it is likely not a sole individual but rather a board of investors with controlling interests in the company and voice over how their investment is spent and what sort of returns on their investment they expect.

Again tho, my original post was not to debate if we felt they were spending the money wisely or even if we as individuals agree with the current state and development of the game, but more of a means to explain the campaign concept and to not come down so harshly on those who do choose to support the game.

I'm glad these are selling well.

They aren't for me; not an efficient use of my money, but I'm glad someone is helping finance the continued development (along with server cost, bandwidth, etc.) of this game.

Just a little remark: Are you aware that this game will probably be closed after a short while if nobody spends money on it?!

So why all the hate and the envy?! If someone is willing to spend so much money on it to support the game you should be happy so we can play and benefit from further improvements.

That's not realy what the anger is about

You would still see raging comments, but a lot fewer if te game actually has something going for it

This is the third iteration of buy some mechs upfront, without knowing how they play, behave, realy look like and feel
While promising on delivering content that is supposed to keep people interested in playing

What people want for nearly 3 years now (since starting closed beta) is a reason to play on, and that's not endless meaningless battles of team death match
That's why you have so many people leaving, vets and new players alike

Hell a third of the game that is still in place was promised to be placeholders, soon to be replaced by something more interesting
The skills, playmodes, xp system
Where are those faction points that make my Phoenix mechs so special for grinding those

All we want is some meaningful features that have been delayed endlessly, and than you have people less complaining and more buying

As of now I vote no with my wallet
I'm not happy where this game goes so I don't she'll out some $ for it
And no matter how limited they make something, it's not gonna change my mind that a handful of mechs is not the thing that keeps this game alive

Also they could make the graphics quality better on realy high, or add an option extreme or so, it's realy low res considering how often they recycle things like models and textures -> not that many unique ones

If I do buy a Gold Direwolf will I be able to put the golden arms on a regular variant? If so, I will buy it today, otherwise no.

The best would be if you could put a gold pelvis on it, make it look like it's wearing gold underwear.

Seriously though, this entire idea seems so ridiculous. Fist off, it's totally "un-clan" who are supposed to pseudo-soviet in terms of their behavior/sensibilities.

They would use the right camo for the right terrain. They don't go individual in the way their mechs look (color) they are supposed to be super warriors sure, and they get pretty arrogant sure, but a gold mech is something a pirate or merc leader would do, not a clan warrior.

This is a money grab with PGI taking advantage of their greatest fans who think they're helping the future of MWO.

If PGI wants to help the future of MWO, then make the game better.Even if they want to call it "giving the fans what they want"

Seriously, this is such a ridiculous money grab it's almost obscene.

I bought an uller pack specifically to wait and see what the gold skins look like before dropping the cash on the table while stil getting the monthlies... As of this announcement, I am very glad that I did so.

Simply becasue since (as far as I can tell) these skins have neither reflective qualities nor a true metallic sheen to them, I will "only" be purchasing a standard Masakari pack. I will not pay 260$ for "gold" that is optically much more like "Yellowish to orangeish powdercoating".

And I was quite candid about considering purchasing TWO and my reasons for doing so, as well. I think my payment history reliably backs up that intent, so PGI can make of all this what they will.. they can either see it as 2 lost golden mech sales or one more Masakari package sold.

Just going to throw this out there, but you know that the Overlord pack (or even Founders) you bought was of limited supply, right? You can't buy them anymore, so you bought into a limited digital good. I see plenty of people in this thread who bought into a limited digital good, and seemed to be just fine with it.

Actually, they were "time" limited not "quanity" limited which is different.

I don't think the point of the campaign is "Show your support of our game by making big purchases!"

The point of the campaign is to offer people that are into "exclusive" luxury items something to buy so they can stand out on the field. There are enough people that will pay ludicrous amounts to show off their perceived status. And not just in video games, but in cars, fashion... hell, look at Russia! Russians with money will go out of their way to flaunt how much money they have!

IMO the people that buy into these types of things are often pretty shallow, but hey it's their money to spend for their "status" symbol, so I say "pay up", and congratulations on your insane purchasing ability.

No. There are enough maps now. Even though there was a promise of a Desert map, I would not mind if it and other maps were skipped so they could focus on other things. Like which old Mech next gets the ability to change appearance of weapons.

I can agree with this, though more variety would be nice.

My actual biggest concern gameplay wise is the game getting too many 'Mechs. I dont want the game to get into a situation where there are mechs that are just the same archetype of other mechs. That kind of redundancy is whats killed most AAA shooters for me. Granted MWO is far more complicated than something like Battlefield, but still its a concern.

You can't change horrible suited concepts like this. Come on. The pricing is insane.

The concept with the paints are good. But not the mechs. We need better concepts.

So where do I sign up to buy my gold community warfare, collision and knockdown physics? Also PGI totally missed an opportunity by not selling a gold Atlas coated in gems with unique peasant stomping mechanics when they had the chance.

The Gold Mechs are simply obscene in price I am not purchasing them.

And before anyone says it, I purchased both the Overlord and Saber Packs, 8 Hero Mechs (during their sales), premium paints, camo, and have 77 mech bays. I do want the game to succeed. But these prices are ludicrous. To purchase a gold mech is simply affirming and enabling this behaviour which ultimately hurts the game and the Mechwarrior franchise.
