This game is free to play! You can play it and never put a dime in it.
So PGIGP need to sell things to harcore fans. I am not happy with the prices either. but they chose to do so.
And the golden mechs are a way for fans who have the money to keep this game running.
I love this game and I support PGIGP with buying premium time and mechs in sales.
I could afford to buy a golden mech, but i wont ´cause I can have more for my money.
But i am glad there are some guys who buy them and would always salute them on the battlefield (and then shoot them when they are in the red team).

PGI see this a FAN made it I would pay $200 for it easy and would try to collect more of my favorite mechs. Give us things like this, 6 inch figures, coffee cups, t-shirts that have funny MWO quotes on them, give us something real that we can hold not something digtal that if worse comes to worse and you shut down the game, vanishes in a puff of pixils. Give me something I can put on my desk or on a shelf and treasure later.

uh, that's kind of premature he didn't say anything about team killing.

I had a problem with PGI/IGP adding the clans with the game still incomplete, missed dates for CW, and unfulfilled promises in general myself... also the original selling that point that only the most "Loyal" would buy at the time what was a single mech.... being what I am I kind of took offense to that.

Then what do you think of these items, one of which is sold out?

That's 3 trinaries worth of golden goodness, and an entire galaxy of Omnimechs.

There was "one" completionist package available at the end of LTI per CIG... SC is barely started and has more potential than MWO unfortunately...

Because this will require actual engineers instead of moar designers? Or actual management with hard dates and all without "geez dis is da beta!" crap all over? - sarcasm off. There are tons of reasons they cant do those - they do have rights to create this game, but this doesn't mean they have rights to create actual physical merch with "mechwarrior" on it. And even if they do - things like this require additional workforce and production facilities (ok this is actually not a prob with China around), not to mention damned logistics aaand money. A good example how things done would be Star Citizen - they made a poll for .. lets say "die hard fans" since subscription benefits are nonexistent (aside form your very own 31337 forum) and according to the results created what people wanted in quantities they needed+little extra for nonsubscribers.
So, maybe a new nice big poll with lets say 2-3k votes for "yes i will buy reasonably priced miniature of mech\t-shirt etc" backed with equally sized "mech miniature i want to buy first without questions\t-shirt\mug" and preorder system will do the trick.
As for gold thingy. Yes this is a valid way to milk some some fans but also a very cheap one. At least make it unique model like founder ones - anything, not just "same shit but in gold". I have no problems with spending money on something especially if it look nice or unique but gold skin is just a milk attempt. I wont tk people with them or even try to judge them - it is their choice but i am completely against such things.

And then find their accounts locked the next day because they were so ultimately intelligent that they gave PGI a nice, tidy list of who `s accounts to watch months in advance.
Almost makes it worth it to buy one after all just to help them get themselvses in trouble

And I love how the people that have been harping on PGI for literally years to make real merch still can`t get it through their skulls 2 years later that the license specifically disallows the creation of RW goods. Seriously, do we need to tattoo it on the inside of your eyelids for you to understand it? It`S not that PGI doesn`t want to or couldn`t, it`s that Microsoft specifically says "NO", and M$`word is final.
It appears human stupidity truly knows no boundaries... *facepalm*

Also, I like the whole "jealousy" card. Like $500 is an enormous amount of money and everyone should be totally jelly over $500. Everyone aspire to be just like someone who can spend $500 on digital game content!! I spend $500 on toy airplanes that every time I put in the air, there's a chance that I can crash it and be out $500. In essence I'm gambling that money every time I fly.
-------
Spending that kind of money on digital content is just dumb. I'd rather use my $500 for something I can actually have fun with. Like another toy airplane.
You know, I totally understand where you are coming from. I like to go shooting and have spend a few thousand on Fire arms alone. Now granted there is little chance that my boom tube will.... well for lack of better words go BOOM, the money that I spend on ammo alone has shadowed the cost of my firearms. I spend about 200 dollars for about an hour of fun, if not more every time I got to the range, and only for an hour of fun. So I am pretty much blowing my money away, though it has a trade off in the end.

I believe they are a different designations. Their model is also different in a few aspects from the regular Timberwolf. Most notable is the legs and how rounded they are, instead of the more angular ones on the basic Timberwolf.
Basically they are the founders version of the clan mechs, or at least that's how I understood them to be. Or maybe I'm mixing them with the pre-order clan mechs.

I agree, I'd buy a gold mech if I could, just to see what these people would do.
I don't get why people (well, people with brains that think, that is) would want to do that. It's thanks to people that are generous enough to make these purchases that the game still exists, and grows. Honestly, there's being a non-venomous parasite, and then there's being a venomous parasite.

This belief, considering how many gold mechs they have made available to sell, makes those "Fans" naive.
I'm sorry, are you telling me that the money from those gold mechs isn't going into PGIGP, who are responsible for this game and it's development?
Because if it isn't, I'd like to know who gets it.

You can always make your own. You can make your own *anything* in this game. Coffee cups, t-shirts, miniatures... the list is endless.

This is absolutely spot-on.
That's exactly what's happening in the industry. People think they can simply apply a monetization template on their product and it'll work, or just slap some funny prices on stuff.
'Make a good product and the money will come'. That's something the 'suits' (aka publisher/investors) will never get. Something that's hard to measure, maybe even impossible to measure. And something that requires faith. Faith in your own product. But I think faith is a very rare commodity in the world of business, money and investment. Bankers have no soul, they have calculators.
