If you look on some of the previous pages, people have claimed to have bought it, so there's at most 47 left... if you believe they are limited in number at all of course.

I have been playing multiplayer online games since the mid 80's and this is by far... WAY by far... the most exclusionist, money grubbing and downright dirty nasty stuff that I've ever seen from a game company. WAY by far. This by a hundred orders of magnitude beats the 10 dollar horse armor.

Pricing things WAY beyond what most of the majority of your players can afford is stupid and everyone who can't afford it hates you for doing it.

What are you talking about, all the mechs besides the hero ones are available for free. How is that out of someones price range? Oh Noes they need to grind C-bills. If you don't want to grind you can pay for that luxury.

So let me get this straight, If someone is pulling in 7 figures a year and I spend $500 on a gold mech you're going to classify them as an idiot? I'd think they were rather intelligent to land that sort of income and I'd probably want to hang out with them.

I am never buying anything from PGI ever again and the gold mech's are why. They don't care either because 500 USD is double what I'd ever spend ever in my entire lifetime on this game.

They only want the richers and they've got them. I'll F2P as long as that's fun and I imagine that when clans hit it won't be anymore.

Why all the hate?

PGI is placing a price on a digital item. So what?
People will either ignore it (like I do) or buy into it (like some will do).

What I'd like to say to PGI is this:
Now that you know who are the suckers, go for gold plated ammo shells, gold plated dropships, gold plated pilot body-suit, hell, go for gold plated cockpit items!!!!

Just to help you out:
Gold plated ammo (any kind, $5 USD a unit)
Gold plated dropship (from $10.000 USD to $100.000 USD) - Doesn't really matter if people can use them or not... shush
Gold plated pilot body-suit (about the same as a nice suite, $4.000 USD)
Gold plated cockpit items (Now here you can make a great deal of income from suckers, place each one at $59.99 USD)

Go for it, PGI! \o/

Like I said previously, I think that $500 is stupid and a colossal waste of money, but hey, if that's what you want to spend it on then that is your privilege; go for it! You'll be helping to keep the game F2P, which subsidizes my play-style.

I won't say that I'll target you especially either - I try to kill the more significant threats first. However, if you're the only Clan Mech amongst an 11-Mech IS Drop, then don't take it personally if you're dog-piled.

All-in-all, I don't understand all the hate towards the Gold Mechs. I think that it's ridiculous, sure, but I'm not foolish enough to purchase them. Quite to the contrary, I rather pity to those who do. Now, I am frustrated with PGI for having the gall to dangle these packages in front of us when we are still waiting on the much-hyped and long-awaited CW that seems more phantasm then reality. I must assume, as a rationale person, that this is where the hate originates.

If not, then the only possible, rational source would be people who want the Gold Mechs but can't shell out the $500. If that's so, then all I can say, is that I didn't realize B. A. Baracus played MWO...

While I find some prices ridiculous, I will note that over there the obscene pricings are for things you could eventually 'earn' anyway (In SC not MWO; there ain't no justification for it other than 'rare' and if there's only 50 left there ain't no rare to it at all), released in limited quantities, with 'lifetime insurance' so you can't lose it no matter how many times it is destroyed, and typically requires between 8 to 20 players to even be able to use it. Because I gotta say if you're manning a turret, while I'm walking your corridors, I don't think you're going to disengage and turn around in your seat fast enough before I pull the trigger. The only thing is I need to find a way to punch a hole in the ship or slip into an open hanger.

To be quite honest it costs far too much for most mechs here imo, and there were already people complaining about the expense it costs for a player to buy a fit for a team or without C-Bills at all. $260 for anything single game product is too much imo, that's $20 more than a $20 a month subscription game costs and is simply too much for me to pay for any one experience, never mind one that's entire model is supposed to appeal to us as costing less than a full game.

I stated this before and I will state it again, PGI is doing things like this because they genuinely believe that selling at a higher price point is better than selling at a higher volume. This is the pinnacle of their research, and it's so wrong it's laughable.

So yeah, I bought a Daishi. Nothing more. Can't afford to buy much more, but I don't really feel like making such a commitment anyway. From a value perspective, I may not stick around, as I haven't so far.
