Maybe he's taking the same "stock challenge" I am? I play stock mechs in public matches all the time (but just ask Avery, I'm a little loose in the head (read as crazy))... (Of course, I typically do this with my Stock Mech account, Lt Kataren...)
Yup, that's exactly what I'm doing. And boy, are the Cbills trickling in! So slow the grind. :( That's also why I'm looking for advice on a "set of three" stock mech chassis. I'm going to take them to master in full stock, so I want to limit my pain if at all possible. ;)
@Tesunie: I had considered the Orion, but didn't do so well in the trial version, so not sure I want to subject myself to further punishment. Still, it looks like it should be good, right?

In order to suggest an "easier" stock mech to grind in public matches, I'd have to know what your skill set and play style is. The more your choice compliments your skills, the better you will do with it.

If you want my suggestion, LRMs are a good aid to providing at least some support to your team, and most stock mechs have at least a few of them somewhere. The assists also can give you a nice boost of c-bills and exp.

Knowing this as your goal, the Dragon may be a decent choice. The Thunderbolt isn't a bad choice either. Out of the two, the Thunderbolt is probably more "balanced" in it's weapon payload. It's got some range, some close in, and enough weapons to remain (or look) like a threat. A Dragon tends to be faster, but has few weapons on it. This leaves the Dragon harder to preform well with it. Each of them have nice balanced payloads and a variety of weapons to lead it to fill many different intended roles.

If you haven't already, a Hunchback is always a good selection. With that line you can have ACs, missiles or laser based mechs. The quirks are also very nice on the Hunchbacks... (Hunchbacks are a good money making mech for their performance, even stock. There also is a Hunchback for every flavor of combat, so one should always be able to match your preferred playstyle and/or skill set.)

I want a heavier mech than a medium for SMM, but I'm also tempted to get a couple clan mechs for other stock events (Tech Era Wednesday for example). I'm considering the Orion strongly right now, unless a good case can be presented in favor of another mech (or just a mech someone hasn't seen in SMM yet, as I'll give it a try!).

Yeah, I've got my Commandos and Centurions because I do well in them, but going up the weight classes I want something different. I tried a Dragon way back in CB and hated it. The thing drives like a boat with that nose bobbing out in front of you. I want to try it again, but I am getting frustrated by the lack of three tech level 1 chassis to use (thus my talk of downgrading a Fang). I don't like Cataphracts or Catapults, so really that leaves only the Orion. It is one of my favorite TT mechs, but .... I don't know. Something just doesn't click with me in MWO. The Thunderbolt has potential, but I need to convert the 9SE into a 5SE, which might not sit well with folks if I run it on SMM (someday I will show up, I promise!). And really, the only thing that the Thud line has that interests me is the jump jets on the 9SE.

Le sigh....

But really, if nobody runs Thunderbolts or Orion's, then that makes them more attractive to me! I am contrary!

Hello dear community,

I have a question concerning stock mech mondays. I have not found a "search thread" option, so I am posting this though I am sure it has been discussed already:

What mechs are there with a stock command console? Only the D-DC Atlas?

(Found that in the Master Mech list. There is a Battlemaster and an Orion as well)

And another question:

Is it sufficient if I built a certain stock loadout into another chassis?

(After browsing the MechForce-Site, I understand that it is okay as long as the loadout is on the Master Mech list)

For example, I would like to play a stock D-DC but neither do I want to modify the one I have, nor do I want to buy another one.

So what I did is I built the D-DC configuration into the S. Is it okay to use that in Tech1 Stock Mech matches? I understand it is.

And a third:

To save CBills, I have not removed the Endo Steel chassis of all mechs I rebuilt to stock mech specifications. So I got lots of free tonnage in my mechs. Is that okay as well?

Thank you for a reply.
Hail and kill

SMM is tech 1, but the Stock Mech Challenge is any tech level. If you want to get a tech level 2 mech as part of your set (such as a Centurion D) and use it, you can. You just can't bring it into SMM is all. Hold onto those mechs for Tech Era Wednesday instead, or other possible stock mech events that may come up.

If you like the 9SE, then get it. The other Thunderbolts can still serve you well in SMM if you desire. Last I heard from Lily (the official everything for SMM that I know of right now), there are to be no customized mechs, even if it's a technical read out of a "stock mech". He wants all mechs to be stock as in how they come in MW:O. (This isn't to say we bend the rules from time to time though, as Sergey did... ;) )

PS: Last SMM, we had a LOT of Thunderbolts. I was in a lance of them, and I was the only oddball out. I was the 4J pretending to be a Thunderbolt... They did well. I don't see too many Dragons and Orions at the moment, and Catapults seem to be a rare find in these matches, but not unheard of.

For Tech Era Wednesday, you can use proxy mechs. For Stock Mech Monday, you need to (normally) use a mech as it is in MW:O. Either that or ask other players who are involved in the SMM matches if it's okay. Some of us don't care (like myself). Others of us do care and want your mech to be what it says it is. If one person disagrees, don't do it basically.

I run Orinos just fine. They tend to blow out unexpected sometimes just like in TT. People say is similar to Atlas. It has similar load out, just smaller and is a bit faster.

Aw man, you guys are making this hard; I wanted to be swayed by emotion, not bitter logistics. Fast Dragon or usefull Orion? Suddenly popular Thunderbolt, or never-loved QuickDraw?

PS. Haven't seen any new stock vids lately. I NEED MY FIX!

I've seen Quickdraws here or there. My brother is trying to press me into the Cataphracts (namely the 4X). Thing is, for me, there isn't any heavy mechs that I seem to like all that much at this moment. So, I'll just wait some more...

And I wished we had gotten some vids of the Tech Era Wednesday matches when we started to do a "red rover" format. Those where GREAT matches...

I have a couple on my Stock Mech Monday youtube channel. It includes a few of the Wednesday matches too.

I haven't been making videos lately because... well, I haven't been playing lately. =o/

I am going to try to make a comeback to SMM tonight. It's been a rough couple weeks and could use the stress reliever. (shooting big stompy robots does wonders for stress, not to mention the great group of pilots we have just to talk to!)

@Tesunie: Dragons are great in stock matches and are fun to play. I've always done decent in my dragons when I ran them (including in pugs before they had any quirks) and in stock matches have really good durability and speed.

I've never ran Orions so I'm not sure how they would be.

Cataphracts can be mean in a brawl but you have to remember that almost all your weapons are very low slung. You will be surprised what you can hit while looking over it. -.-

I've been running Catapults on my stock account and they are a pain to level. (Then again, I'm not a LRM person and don't really like using them, so for you they might be great) I do love my K2 stock, even pugging with it scoring nice damage and a couple kills.

@BarHaid: Thunderbolts are a better choice if you are running them stock in pug matches. They are a lot more forgiving than the Dragons. Dragons will get trashed if you take the wrong step with them and they take a very specific mind set to play. 'Hit and Run' and 'Strafing Runs' are the norms for Dragons unless your playing the sniping game. (Then again this is what I remember from when I piloted them which was before quirks AND hitbox adjustments.)

I plan on being at SMM tonight. Since this wasn't an event weekend it should have a good turn out. It would be great to see some of the original crowd there tonight along with some new faces.

I'll see what I can do to show up tonight as well. We get enough people in, I'll start recording matches again.

I'm online....

Edit:
Sadly I lost my login for the other website that was being used for SMM >.<
I have been having issues resetting it - or making another account

I do get the notifications from TigerLily though - or rather - I get notified that I got a notification. >.<

It was great fun! Thank you, Sergey Kosinskly for hosting my team.
