i've noticed a trend.. the "gundams" i.e mechs with a distinct head and humanoid body tend to be the ones using the incorrect scale (relative to their weight class). For example, Centurion trebby griffin shawdowhawk quickdraw (exceptions are the light mech gundams cuz they have to keep em small) God forbid there are gundams that are not in scale with eachother have you guys even seen gundam? /sarcasm off. this is mechwarrior, not gundam, they dont need to be the same size

Chicken walkers are affected by incorrect scaling too.

Stalker is too small for 85 tonner and Catapult is too large for 65 tonner.

I agree with the OP to a small extent. I too believe that some mediums and heavies are too tall or short. The mech that comes to mind right away is the Shadowhawk. The fact that I can be almost eye to eye with most assault mechs, including the Atlas, proves that some mechs are scaled far too tall.

The hunchback and centurion are just about right, and that's where the bar should end for mediums. The current status of 55 ton mechs is just too damn tall.

i'm alright with the catapult's scaling considering that the K2 is scaled fine. But yeah the stalker is definitely definitely too small

though those two cases aren't as blatantly intentional and repeatedly committed like the gundams.

There's no money for them in rescaling Mechs.

So, even though three quarters of their headcount are graphic designers, we won't get rescaled Mechs.

At some point in the past, one of the devs explained how rescaling the mechs was a lot of work, because it wasn't just a matter of scaling the geometry, but they'd have to actually re-size things like the little access hatches, and ladders, and junk... because if they just scaled down the mechs, then those ladders wouldn't be appropriate human size.

Of course, the explanation kind of missed a really key point, which was that LITERALLY NO ONE GIVES A SHIT ABOUT WHETHER A LITTLE LADDER ON A MECH IS PROPERLY SCALED TO HUMANS WHO YOU NEVER SEE IN GAME.

The idea that elements which actually have major impacts on gameplay could be held up for such a totally irrelevant aspect which basically no one would ever even notice anyway was really disturbing.

Mech scaling used to be an issue that was taken seriously on this board.

Then the Shadowhawk was released and we all realised that no one here knows anything about good mech scaling.

While true, it also exposed the myth that Height gets you killed, since it's one of the absolute toughest mechs in the game.

It has JJs. JJs are worth another 5 tons of armor on a medium.

Anyway, topic like this only make me depressed since PGI does not give a damn.

actually, JJs tend to get ya legged alot, lol. Useful, but only if you don't overuse them, ya know what I mean? But I do admit, I have trouble driving mechs without them now. Shadowhawk, Griffin and Firestarters are my boys!!!

Because people have to lead the shot when you move laterally, and the Shawk is skinny, makes it hard to single out a hitbox to hit. That, and it has thick arms and a thin torso.

Being tall isn't that bad because it actually lets you see farther. Then again the Shadowhawk does have jump jets. But my point is that you're not always moving vertically, so being tall isn't as big a factor in how easy you are to hit.

The Centurion is taller than the Hunchback but alot tankier, provided that you find a way to use a depression to hide your legs, LOL.

The Awesome is actually kinda short compared to the other Assault mechs but he's so fat and wide, even when moving laterally as fast as possible, alot of damage still ends up hitting the torso hitboxes.

You know, even if they never rescale the Awesome, they could give it a perk compared to the Victor simply by assigning a portion of the side torso as arm hitboxes. Then the Awesome would be able to use a dead arm to shield with similar to the Centurion, as well as making its torso sections skinnier, giving it a similar toughness.

Just... something to make the Awesome tankier than the Victor.

Would you prefer to let your torsi alone take all the damage or spread some of that to your legs? I always felt safer in my A1 than my K2 during a brawl.

Awesomes also suffer from heavy energy loadouts. Currently that is not desirable in assaults. Victors have ballistic slots to spare.

There's also another perk with jump jets and that's if someone is deliberately trying to aim at your legs and you jump just before they shoot, they miss completely.

It's another disadvantage that ground-bound mechs have compared to their airborne brethren.

There is something wrong with scaling?
I see no link between the size of mechs and their weight, do you?

It is ******* up mech balance. How many Trebuchets do still see these days?

Not to mention the Quickdraw.
