Does using artemis with SSRMs make any difference? I'm currently using BAP with my SSRMs, would artemis make any difference at all? and if so, what difference would it make?

Ahhh. I think it doesn't actually make a difference for streaks.

Artemis SHOULDN'T affect Streaks. However, it does, in one important fashion -- Streaks lock faster with Artemis equipped.

Yes. It does make a difference. Artemis Decreases lock on time for all missiles. So, for SSRMs, it will make it so you can get locks faster. Very helpful when you are trying to swat some fast moving mechs.

Best part is, they add no extra weight to your SSRM systems and are basically a free weight/crit upgrade for SSRMs.

BAP turns off ECM, permitting you to get your locks, which is also important.

Did this answer all your questions? Any farther questions I might be able to help you with?

Not to my knowledge or testing. Artemis speeds up lock times. LRMs and SSRMs share the same exact lock times and lock system. So, if one gets sped up, so does the other. So far, by everything I've seen (which I wont say can't be wrong, as I could) it speeds up SSRMs lock on times as well. But that is all it will do for it.

To be honest... it's standard on any SSRM mech I use, which is a fair amount of them. (I tend to use LRMs, so Artemis helps out my LRMs and the SSRMs I also place, as the two systems compliment each other very well.)

Don't be afraid to ask any questions. I'm sure Koniving is around somewhere to answer it most times. (He's probably about 5 seconds from saying something here as it is I bet! He's always roaming the new player help section, and he's very good at helping.) If Koniving gives you an answer, trust him. He's usually right...

Should the Artemis upgrade affect the SSRM lock time.? NO.

Should it affect LRM and SRM? Yes.

Does it, well in this game maybe. I have not gone into the testing grounds with a mech with Artemis with SSRMS and one without Artemis with SSRMS.

I do know that ECM when I am negating it with BAP has longer lock times for SSRMs. Now LRMs I have tag, so it is harder to tell and the ECM target is outside of the BAP bubble. This is for LRMs with and with out Artemis. These are from games played not the training grounds. I just have not noticed or looked for SSRMs and how upgrading to Artemis affect them.

Artemis speeds up SSRM lock time. There are loads of threads on this subject. Just search on Artemis and SSRM and you can read all night if you want.

In order to fix this, they would have to rewrite the code for lock-on mechanics. Right now they are extremely busy coding Clan weapons, Clan mechanics (though I think that might be done), Launch Module (top of the list right now), and Community Warfare.

It is much more likely for us to see an additional half ton to ton per Streak launcher for Artemis than an actual fix.
...if anything is ever done. ;)

It's been a "known bug" since forever.

Artemis isn't SUPPOSED to effect streaks...and it doesn't add a crit slot or tonnage.

But it DOES decrease the lock time...so...while it's there, use it. It's "been there" for over 2 years.

I just tested this in proving grounds. The practical effect is to reduce lock on times from three seconds to two seconds.

Same chassis, same target. I parked the vertical reticle mark just outside the target box and then measured the clock time difference from screen shots.

I always knew there was anecdotal evidence for this, but thanks Spheroid for actually testing it. I have run Artie on all of my 'mechs with streaks ever since I found out about this potential *feature*, which was in September, 2012, I believe. For a real treat, run a TAG and BAP as well as target decay and 360 target retention, and you're all set. (Unless of course your mech has ECM, then you can eliminate the BAP.)

yeah..Bap isn't necessary if you have ECM...just turn it to counter and light up the enemy ECM light......unless of course, you're fighting 2 enemy ECM lights......then..well..good luck
