This isn't a balance complaint (even though I just had the worst string of matches, personally, since I started playing--that was all my fault), but I'm honestly wondering how people don't get bored running the same builds they've been running for over a year. It's a rare event to see a match without at least one AC-40 or dual gauss Jag and a Phract 3D or holy god 1-4 DDCs.

Sure, there were a few people running more interesting builds (some of them really effectively, especially this one NARCing 3-L), but they're definitely in the minority.

So the question is, I suppose, for those of you running meta builds, or even just the same builds ad infinitum...how do you not get bored to tears running the same thing over and over?

25 years of marriage... man, if you are seriously, have a respect from me. It's a tough labor.

Edit: But hotdogs? 24 years of gastritis?

Im a loyal person aswell, but I cannot play the same mech for any period of more than 2 days before I switch the build or change mechs completly. Its why I have 90 something mechs and play them all. It has made me a much better player aswell, able to fill many roles. I dont understand the people that have 300,000XP+ in a single chassis (no matter how "good" it is) I simply couldnt do that, I have to have alot of diversty to not get bored.

I've only been playing a few months, and I don't run meta builds, but I do play the BJ-3 with 2 ERLL, 4ML, and 3 JJ about 90% of the time. Why? To me it's not the build that makes it interesting, but the tactics on the battlefield it allows me to do. I've yet to find a mech that is as much fun as this one. It gives me good mobility, maneuverability, and strength which allows me to flank, dodge, snipe, and brawl with decent survivability. Until I find a mech that can match it, I'll continue trying other mechs but almost always come back to ole' reliable.

I "only" have 19 mechs. I do get a little bored with them. I'll swap my builds around some. Usually just weapon loadouts. Engines usually stay the same. I tend to run the same engine across chassis types.

I might be able to build a Buttmaster for you in Smurfys, if you give the kind of loadouts you like. Here is a completely random one that I just thought up to get started: Buttmaster

Hot Dogs & Ramen. Joe's longest held relationship. :P

Congrats on the marriage, 25 years is to be respected for sure!

At the OP: I derive my enjoyment from competing against others, competing against my limits, and working towards improving.

What I use to get there is a bit irrelevant, but I do have a few varied load outs when I want something a little different.

People don't need fun when they are winning. At least some don't.

Also I should mention I'm not just talking about chassis--I can see sticking with one / a few particular ones, but I keep wanting to tinker with them to try and make something unusual work, especially after balance changes. I think when I mastered my DDC back in the day I went through trying LRM-boat / tri-SRM6-AC20 brawler / PPC-Gauss sniper, just with the one chassis.

The 4xMG ER-PPC CDA-3C is so fun to pilot that every drop is like walking a fine line between greatness and sorrow.

I did get bored in the mechlab one evening, so I decided to buy a 400 XL for my Banshee.

Best. Decision. Ever.

My WubShee consists of a LPL and 7 MPLs for one variant, and 8 MPLs and an AC5 for the other.

Both are very fun to use. Both are horribly suboptimal when compared to meta. But if you can get within 90M, you will severely out-alpha them.

That's a difference in personality or gamer personality type.

Some players like to make "unusual" combinations work. Some like the most efficient method available.
