I used to get near 60 FPS, now i get 40 the moment im out of the spawn area and near the center of the map. And it starts dropping below 40 the moment combat happens. My hardware and settings (medium graphics) are still the same, and i used to run the game smoothly in beta on a much worse machine...

I even turned off cockpit glass, film grain and depth of field. Doesnt seem to have made any difference.

Any ideas on how to improve performance? Are there any possible cfg tweaks out there?

personally, fps took a slight hit with the patch, but only about 2-3 fps here and there

how do you turn off cockpit glass etc?

And how do you check for dx9 or dx 11 and how do you change it?

DX9 and DX11 are in the in-game Settings menu

read the very end of the latest patch-notes for info on disabling cockpit glass in your user.cfg file. I'm guessing they'll add the UI in settings in the next patch or 2.

DX9 / DX11 is a menu selection in the Video Settings.

Removing cockpit glass, film grain, and Depth of Field must be done by adding lines to a user.cfg file:

Quote

The following configuration variables have been exposed for tuning in your user.cfg file. To add these to your user.cfg file navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online (or your custom installation location) and if it doesn't exist, create a file user.cfg containing these settings as desired. Don't forget to set the value desired.

r_HDRGrainAmount=0.0-1.0 (film grain amount)
gp_option_ShowCockpitGlass=0/1 (off/on)
r_DepthOfField=0/1 (off/on)

I have a GTX 770M. The game used to run really smoothly in beta...with a much worse machine. I think the game took a massive performance hit after they added the new ingame UI....im guessing poor optimization? And it hasnt been getting better since then...

Im on dx9, tried dx11 and it was laggier.

I tried putting this in my system.cfg :

r_MultiThreaded = 1
r_MultiThreaded = 2
r_MultiGPU = 1
r_MultiGPU = 2
sys_budget_videomem = 512
sys_budget_sysmem = 2048
sys_physics_CPU = 0
sys_physics_CPU = -1
sys_streaming_cpu = 1
sys_streaming_cpu = 0
sys_streaming_cpu = -1
sys_spec_Physics = 0
sys_spec_Physics = -1
r_driver="DX9"
r_Driver = dx9
d3d9_TripleBuffering = 0

Noticed zero difference...

I was in a game last night in Crimson and spotted a Jester in the tunnel and then a second later it VANISHED in front of me. A moment later I saw a laser originate from where I last saw it. Mind you I was still running DX9 and only medium graphics settings so wasn't straining my system any. Goofy.

This is an old bug. May have resurfaced. Last time I saw it was a year plus ago.

As for performance issues, I saw none. But then again I was in private matches and we never got above 6v6.

This makes no sense since the front end UI has no impact with the actual gameplay graphics.

I put it in system.cfg because some of the posts talked about putting it there. I just tried putting it in user.cfg, no idea if it was the hotfix or the changes but i am getting much better fps now....

1) Try deleting the shaders folder. Should be in the user folder in your MWO folder.
2) If that doesn't fix it, run the repair tool with all options checked except clean profile.

Something is very wrong for certain configurations of computers and MWO. Ever since the DX11 patch I have been getting terrible framerates no matter what my settings are on, low, medium, very high, DX9 or DX11 it doesn't matter. I run all low settings except textures at very high and objects at medium, and I spend most of my matches in the 30-40 FPS range and in a lot of cases I drop into the 20s and sometimes even the 10s under certain situations (which happens more than I like). Now I even upgraded my video card along the way and it made no difference.

Before contacting support I spent several months waiting for patches and trying to find a problem on my end. I even formatted Windows and reinstalled the game. I have deleted my entire USER folder in MWO several times and done just about everything I can think of. I even went as far as to check the system requirements for the game again to see if somehow I was lacking somewhere. I wasn't. I'm actually above the recommended system requirements. Yet here I am dropping into 20s on FPS with almost completely low settings.

I have a Phenom II X4 980 3.7Ghz Quadcore processor with 8GB 1600Mhz DDR3 RAM and an EVGA GTX770 Superclocked 2GB video card and before you say my processor is old, please take note of the system requirements for the game, an Athlon II X4 650. This processor is MUCH slower than mine, considering mine is the same generation as the recommended processor but a whole tier higher. This was the fastest quadcore in this generation and I should not be, under any circumstances, dropping into the 20 or 30 FPS on almost all low settings.

Now I have spent THREE WEEKS talking to support and they do not know what to tell me. I have sent them about 7 or 8 logs and files and they cannot tell me anything. I even upgraded to the beta Nvidia drivers that are supposed to massively increase performance. They made no difference at all.

For kicks last week I even fired up GRID 2 since I hadn't had a chance to try it out on this new card since upgrading from a GTX 570. I was greeted with a minimum framerate of 54 FPS with all max settings and an average of 74 FPS. GRID 2's minimum framerate is HIGHER than my average in MWO. Yet in MWO before the match starts and after it's over I get over 100+ FPS. I know some of you may say "well MWO is CPU intensive" and you would be right. However I also noticed something else, GRID 2 used FAR more CPU than MWO, makes the fans run faster than MWO, makes my system generate far more heat than MWO (note I used AIDA64 to monitor temps and fan speeds on a 2nd monitor while playing) and even games which take advantage of PhysX run FAR better than MWO and considering how big of a hit PhysX is on anything that doesn't have a secondary card, I think that's saying something.

Anyway to sum it up, something is very wrong somewhere and it's only been getting worse. I feel if it gets too much worse I may have to stop playing all together, which is very unfortunate.

Do it. it will re-create the shaders folder. By Shaders folder he means the ...\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online\USER\Shaders\ folder. You need to close your client before doing so.

Running my laptop with a 770m too, I've had some wired graphic bugs myself aswell:
