It's no secret I dislike the map for its one dimensional gameplay and the ugly metas it has spawned. I'm at the point I'll just go rambo and move onto the next one asap when it comes up. Actually... I can't think of a time when Alpine existed where I wasn't at this point because it has always been a horrible map. With the advent of private matches there's finally a shred of hope that one day I'll never have to drop on that frozen poopsicle again.

While I don't want to see the map removed for those that do find it fun, when is PGI going to offer a toggle to remove certain maps from the rotation for players? It might actually make premium time worth something again if it gave the player the ability to do this, as private matches just don't cut it due to the lack of bill earnings.

2 cents

So - because you don't like the map - you basically commit suicide - screwing over the rest of your team.

Lovely teamwork there.

Odd, we had several matches on Alpine in Private. I even used a Jenner (Stock Champion) once. What is the problem you are seeing? Is it the meta tactic isn't to your liking?

So you basically don't know how to play the map, right?
You can't even read the map to think about alternatives to I9 aka High Ground?

And your inabilities lead you to screwing up your team?

In Locks defense. He said he Rambo'ed that doesn't mean he didn't cause his fair share of damage in the doing. Remember each player is only accountable for 8% of a victory.

not sure what you find one dimensional about it. Seems to me that every time I get dropped on that map the other team tries something different and half the time it works.

And since people can't select a mech knowing which map is coming up, the meta is what they are running on all maps. Admittedly some metas work better on nice wide open maps like alpine, but that's hardly shocking. I don't run the typical meta builds and I still do fine.

I don't like Alpine, but there are definitely some ways to play it to keep it interesting.

That sounds exactly like what ze German army did in WWII when they got Alpine on the Russian front.

I don't like it much either as it tends to spawn so much sniping acting, meta and LRM spam. While this is a legit tactic it becomes very tiresome and mundane to do in the long run, thus I loose interest which in turn means I am less likely to spend real money on this game. Boredom is bad for busyness.

Q & A

Q: You don't like sniping, meta and LRM? You don't you just do it yourself, then you won't get roflstomped!
A: I don't get any kind of personal satisfaction, exhilaration or the rush of adrenaline when fighting with meta, it feels mundane and stale.

The map is to blame as it encourages such behaviour.

River City Night or Terra Therma is way more hated than Alpine. Those maps need to go before Alpine, and with those three gone, we wouldn't have enough maps left.

The only good thing about Alpine is that it encourages players to field more balanced builds. If you take a brawler without any long range weapons, you're screwed. Players include at least one long range weapon specifically for when they end up in Alpine.

River City Night is actually alot better than it used to be. It used to be pitch dark, with just a little light here at there. Personally I thought that was much cooler. It forced you to use night or heat vision.

Terra Therma sucks when you PUG it. In a group, providing the rest of the team doesnt derpherd into the PUGZapper, it can be kind of fun.

Alpine, meh. Dont care either way as my mechs generally can get out at least 500m anymore. Back when we all ran pure brawler builds it sucked though.

Sorry I had stepped away for a moment to enjoy some breakfast as I don't like food around the battlestation. This thread may seem a tad "ranty" because I had one of those perfect scenarios where not only does your pug wander about like chickens scratching at the ground, but they were the same awful players I was stuck with in a previous match prior to alpine which compounded my frustrations. By the time I was one of the only few left, I literally stopped trying and went in blazing.

BUT.... the map really does suck imo, and has been universally loathed since inception according to the several threads about it. That's undenyable. We've all known this for a long time and it constantly creates one of the worst snowball scenarios due to poor design to be displayed in a colorful image I slapdashed together below. For those who enjoy the map, good for you! Every once in a while I even enjoy it too, in a brawler no less because that's what I mainly run.

Anyways enjoy the "Cartoon" of how I feel the map is "one dimensional" and if you see me on Alpine, don't hate the player, hate the game. I wouldn't drop on that map if I had a choice. Here's the silly NSFW version that you shouldn't click if you dislike naughty language, and the censored one below. Cheers

I'd rather have Alpine Peaks than Terra Therma any day of the week. Unfortunately it mostly seems to be Terra Therma every day of the week.

River City Assault is the worst map ever, doesn't matter, night or otherwise.

Odd... Unless I'm stuck in a slow mech with short range weapons only I usually don't mind Alpine. Yes, it's a nightmare when the enemy has LRMs and you don't have any ECM cover, but that's the crap ECM/missile implementation not the map. It's actually one of the maps I like the best.
