(I infiltraited a Laws of the Night LARP back in the late 90s in order to hook up with goth chicks so trust me I know exactly what "meta gaming is)

Did it work?

I guess we better get used to playing in uneven and unfull teams. Because for every jerk who dont like alpine we have ppl not liking, Terra, River city, HPG and so on and so on. Lets us all just bail on maps we dont like, huh op? would you like that?

Because showing respect and sportmanship its soo 2000 and late.

Don't think anybody mentioned quitting maps they don't like, and the OP certainly didn't.

The reality of the situation is, after losing the first time, I should know where the Ac/20 is located and disable it asap in subsequent rounds. It becomes my responsibilty to win, and not rely on luck any further. Failing to do so is failure in itself, but on the other hand the opposing player should be intelligent enough to observe this advantage they posess, and a make a moral decision whether to exploit it or not ...

With all due respect, this is a video game, where people should be playing for fun and/or to win. "Moral decisions" should not have any part in it unless you are taking things too seriously.

I remember a time when the forum debated whether "Legging" an enemy mech was a morale and legitamate tactic. Sometimes these things come up and people wonder if it is honorable or not to attack an enemy in a certain way.

I say we aren't the Clans hiding behind false morales when it suits us, we are IS and we fight to win any way possible. It's war, and war is hell ;)

Maps are what you make them. Most PUGs will listen and follow you if you take charge and call the ball. But, if you don't, you kind of end up getting what you deserve.

I don't mind Alpine, I just mind that it comes up in rotation about 30% more than other maps. Literally. Look at your profile and map stats; look at how many Alpine drops you get.

Meh. Dial it back a bit plox thx.

Actually, I get it within 1-2 matches the same as HPG Manifold, Crimson Strait, and Tourmaline/Canyon are just behind that. And Manifold tends to cripple my missile boats without fail, because everyone goes center and renders them useless...when they just don't hide behind the abundant cover that reduces most fights to inside-minimum ranges anyway.

Terra Therma? The only reason I hate that is when I have a team of brain-dead players that go fapping about the PUGzapper volcano and chokepoint to death. It's actually my winningest map.

Alpine isn't a bad map ,Granted I like my LRM's which does give me a advantage on that map as its more snipe friendly , That said I've won this map when they've took the hill and had my team pinned down on the low ground on a pure lrm boat its workable.

Meh I always end up at the "pugzapper" on therma not because I particually want to be there, but wandering around on my own with all the weaknesses a lrm boat has is a recipe for disaster , so I stick with the team , sometimes we get exterminated sometimes we don't.

A lot of people are saying Alpine is winnable if you just avoid the duel at Mount Pug, or that it's possible to flank it. They are making the bold assumption that the people on top of Mount Pug are idiots. With proper comms and proper distribution and a few glances over ridges, the position on the mountain is pretty much unassailable. Say all you want about flanking, but if you're on low side and you have to Assault high side, you're pretty much boned. Conquest is less of a big because of the lack of direct fire lines on the points, but that's more the fault of the minimap blocking the fov than anything.

The real crime is the upper base. Quite possibly the coolest place on the map to have a brawl, a multilevel base with streets, gates, roads, cover, and interesting approaches from west and south is overlooked by a massive sniper nest.

There's so little incentive to go to the aerial (Mount Pug is better for high side, low side has to swing way, way wide to get there and will undoubtedly be spotted), or take the low road (basically ambush valley). Even taking the hill opposite the low road means dodging massive fire from Mount Pug, to say nothing of turrets once you get into an even halfway advantageous position.

Take out the main mountain, level out the elevation between the two sides, and add some larger ridges and dunes in between and the map has potential, but right now it's just a disaster.

Indeed and it's quite a shock the first time someone asks you to dominate them. lol

I'm just goofin around at this point. The reason I shared some more indepth thoughts was to offer those reading the understanding that I know where people who enjoy that map are coming from as well. ;)
