That is just straight up bad BT. You either have the miniature or you don't have the mech. Bad, Joe! Bad bad bad!!!

Hey, Beer caps, with nicely done etching were totally acceptable. That is if they also brought the Beers those Caps came from. LOL!

And keeps players interested in the Game!

Indeed, good point!

Honestly, there were absolutely NO need for new variants other than to continue to sell the game. Someone said in another thread, I think about the Tbolt 9S, that it was boring because it didn't do anything that any of the other 65 tonners couldn't do. That was the thing with Battletech. You only have 3 classes of weapons and 17 weight classes on which to mount those weapons. After that, the only thing left to ask was, "does it have JJs?" You can only go through so many variants before you simply end up with the same exact mech only 5+ tons in the different direction. This is also like asking why FASA continued on with new equipment...well, to sell products, duh! We went from the AC5 to the UAC5 to the Rotary 5, from the PPC to the ER PPC to the Heavy PPC to the Snub Nosed PPC. With each new technical addition, they'd release a whole new TRO with new mechs that are simply the 3025/2750 mechs with new shiney stuff.

Anyway, I don't mind player creativity because we're simply doing what FASA did. The only difference is we're not playing by BT rules or restrictions. That is ok, though.

All good points, sounds like some scary power creep going on there. ;)

And also, they weren't. Just because the rule books provide rules to build new mechs, it doesn't mean that existing chassis were ever meant to be tinkered with. Or have you ever played an official campaign or scenario with custom built mechs?
How many canonized custom built mechs can you name? Even if you could name 100, it would be a vastly diminishing number among those thousands of active mechs throughout the IS.

There were actual rules for mech customization too.

But as we have no Technicians sub-game for the skill of our techs, or Facilities sub-game for the quality and availability of our repair and modification facility - be it a drop ship, mobile mech bay, or full on factory. We have no scrap and salvage sub-game where you have to find or buy the parts to replace, the list goes on..

Which is why I wish repair and rearm, salvage, and all that were somehow going to be a feature of this game such that mech customization wasn't limited by merely a money-sink.

I suggest playing stock mode http://mwomercs.com/...k-mech-mondays/

Where Jenners have 4 Medium Lasers and go 118 like they are supposed to. The stock revolution is happening now.

And this is how you get what you want folks, I have zero interest in playing stock mechs but I love when players realize that if they take the initiative they can find ways to play the game the way they want to play it.

Why can a Jenner have a ppc? I thought innersphere mechs didn't have omni mechs till much later and the jenner was not an omni mech so it can never have a ppc!

It's chassis wasn't designed that way?

You're gonna hate this, but the original Jenner actually mounted a large laser, being the Jenner JR7-A. Big energy weapons are not unknown to the thing.

There is nothing in Battletech that precludes a Jenner from being modified to pack a PPC- in fact, it's not even a factory refit. Do it in your Dropship bay, even a stock one could be refit with a decent tech and some time, and it's even doable without losing armor, jump jets, or speed (stock, a JR7-D has exactly 7 tons of weaponry).

Part of the board game was designing your own mechs from scratch.

Since we cannot do that, we're allowed to radically alter the mechs they do have.

Except the clan mechs. Clan mechs, not so much.

"ironman" Battletech was always interesting. Your mech lost an arm? Pull out the wire cutters and snip that miniature. We never played it like that but I knew of a group that did. That is just a little too hard core for my tastes.
