they made a million in less than a week.
an just churned out another 200,000 + in 24 hours heading strongly towards 18 million.
CCP was right internet space ships is serious business.
I would be willing to wager that internet battle mechs would be just as serious , if it was in the hands of a serious company.
Regardless star citizen fully demonstrates that those in this industry who makes the decisions on what games to make, dont know squat.

But even these People have also rightful complains about the gameplay and imbalances - they cant be counted as negative indicators bcs they will merge with the Forces of Players that only come to the Forums when the **** hits the Fan and complain about.
PGI got a huge amount of Goodwill and many positive reactions on stuff like UI 2.0 Command Chair Posts, or the Hudbug post etc.
PGI needs to understand that positve Feedback not allways means a better or more fun gameplay either.
In the latest Twitch was a Player saying that he did not understand the fuss about 3PV bcs it is a "Free Periscope Mode" to exploit for increasing success.
Its the "Kaffeeangst" approach of gaming: Anything is secondary to the cause of winning.
Which means gameplay is secondary to these Kind of People - but there is also the crowd that feels winning is meaningless if the gameplay sucks and the later is the crowd you have to cater for!
The "Winning is Primary Crowd" will play the game reagardless of the gameplay but the "Gameplay gives Winning a Reason Crowd" leaves if the gameplay stinks.
PGI Needs to identify whom belongs to whom and find out what is Agitation and what is a rightful comlaint about redundant, unfun or even dismissive gameplay experience.
Metrics need to be understood.
You know - if you climb up a 100 yard tall Tower and jump off the top the mortality rate is 1% bcs nobody dies in 99 yard.

But the matter of the fact is that at some point development have to betray ideals or you will have a wonderfully broken game.

I agree to a degree Alex, forum rage will always exist in games. But I think its the triggers and how well a title developer controls those triggers is what differentiates the communication caliber of those developers and will determine thier success at managing thier playerbase and controlling the news initiative.
For example, PGI promised its playerbase a means to satisfy both crowds through it's hardcore selection of 3PV but then reneged on that and gave an all or nothing approach. They further complicated that by what many perceived as a biased poll in the 12V12 1PV only accomodation they are apparently persuing but keep in mind that alienates many players not part of groups and even groups situationally can only get 12 players on line at a time.
Now its akin to forming a raid in other titles without any of the tools to do so easily. Really it was a poor offering and in my opinion only served to futher fan the flames hence my point about PGI not dealing with the trigger elements of the issue. It will be curious to see how SC fares as its development cycle progresses. I already heard some of the grumbling in my Clan about costs of the hanger stuff and so the new cycle begins!

I have to agree on this, right now the feeling for me is its all about PGI making more money.. I think its time to stop producing mechs and fix existing problems, fix the current mechs with issues before adding more, get rid of the current meta alpha game.. Its great to see new mechs yes but really all we are getting are different models which you build the same load out on.. perhaps something worth looking at would be to restrict certain weapons on mechs, go back old school and only allow limited change out in weapon load outs.. Lord knows we have enough mech variant's to cover everything. I am sure there are better solutions than what currently exists for the current meta. Many players have been around since the start up.. perhaps 3 Betas ago ad a lobby is long over due.. a lobby system should have been the 1st in line.. Players could easily work leagues as we wait for CW.. and it could simply be a lobby where you gain no XP or Cbills, this would still require us to play the current game to build our coffers. Not to mention we are so in need of new game modes.. defend / attack.. only 1 side gets a base Im sure that's simple enough to add.. I would like for PGI to send out a survey perhaps 40 - 50 questions even more .. email the community publish the results.. something simple multiply choice perhaps.. I do not feel the current communications are working.. a true survey would certainly show where the community stands at large ..

And send it to our beloved PGI devs / IGP guys. Especially tell them, that this was writte on the weekend when everyone else is having a BBQ or whatever, and that this whole letter was written 1 1/2 days after the problem was found and now its fixed.
This kind of engagement cannot be bought with money, and thats why PGI could easily do something like this, because it does not matter how big the company is.
