It is important to note that this is the first official tournament of this variety which we have implemented, as well as being in BETA as a feature. As such, the tournament should be regarded as unranked. Seeding for this round was aimed at fairly matching each team by overall ELO within the first bracket. We are eager to investigate the many possibilities of how to arrange future tournaments with both existing data (ELO/KDR/WLR) and new data from this event, as well as ways to organize a ranking/seeding system. Ideally, any such system would be both fair to the teams and fun for those cheering from the sidelines. Your thoughts will be greatly appreciated on this particular matter, as future tournaments will be less about testing systems and more about just having fun.
i would like to point out that there is a flaw with how you seeded. im gonna be quoting standard bracket theory here. you do not seed like skilled teams first round. you want them to be in the last round. for a brief example, for a 16 man bracket seeded 1 through 16, the first round matchups should be 1v16, 2v15, 3v14, etc down to 7 vs 10 and 8 vs 9. you guys did the equivilant of 1 vs 2, 3 vs 4, 5 vs 6, etc. this will create a mismatch in how the end results are gonna look. right now the 1 vs 2 and 3 vs 4 matchups are really lame. while they may be interesting first round matches, you have basically said 2 of the best 4 teams have no chance of making it past the first round, so they cant even place at that respective level. obviously you cant change that now, but you might want to look at proper seeding for future tourneys

I am forseeing now that groups that aren't "pros" will pretty much never get a chance to play in these sorts of things. Same bunch clans dropping a group or 2 or 3 into every tourney
edit: I'm not all bent cause we didn't get in, just an honest question

Anyone can start their own ladder tournament using private matches and get people to pay in for the prizes (that part may be hard to work out though).

HoL isn't a clan/guild/group. HoL is a teamspeak based community. Many lords have their own team at the same time, like Ignotus, others are freelance pilots.

Working as intendedTM. Just like the matchmaker that puts high-Elo meta 4-mans vs casual LOL-build 4-mans.
On a serious note ... yeah, some favorites playing each other in the first round - lame. But ... if you want to win it all you'll have to win vs any team anyway, so why it matters if its first round or last round?
Regardless, got a lot of friends playing in this, so best of luck guys and gals.
