3 per weightclass is the ONLY sincere effort I have seen proposed anywhere near these forums to fix unbalanced teams. Yes meta poptarts are a problem but that is not related to the weightclasses themselves but is rather an overall balance issue. Games should be decided by best applying your resources on an even playingfield, not by whom gets the most Assaultmechs.
I agree that ELO and especially the way it is calculated is the root to most of the games matchmaking problems. But an even representation of every weightclass should be the endgoal of any team balance in public play. "Rule of Tree" accomplishes this in a very simple but effective manner.
I'll ask you just one thing ... why 3/3/3/3 ? Why not 2/4/4/2 ? Why not 4/4/2/2 ? Why not 12/0/0/0 ?
The only thing that should be present within the MM is the ability to form balanced games. MM knows what types of mechs are present in the wait queue. If its mostly assaults it can form teams with "assault" patter (2/2/2/6, etc.) and visa versa. If both teams have same amounts of mechs of same type then the whining is gonna stop, because then the only thing you can blame for your losses is your own lack of skill.
I for one, think that the whole mech type balance is stupid. We already have the MM that supposedly balances teams by "skill". The measure of skill is given by the Elo rating, which represents your "usefullness" to your team. And unlike what you might think ... light pilot with certain Elo and assault pilot with same Elo are equal additions to the team in terms of their skill and their chances to win. The fact that it is apparently isn't so means one and only one thing ... Elo isn't calculated properly, and does not in fact represent players skill. Thats why devs need to figure out the issues with Elo and fix it or get rid of it altogether. Because the MM that incorporates both will only lead to either hour long wait times or horrendous match balancing.
