You can win pugging. Just remember you are part of a team. And unless you are a real fast scout. You DO NOT go out on your own.
Stick with people who look to know what they are doing.
Avoid one trick builds.
Use cover
Use available ECM
Learn the maps
Pay attention to the hud
Do not turret
torso twist under fire
Bring AMS
Do not be the first over the ridgeline
Avoid being the point of the spear (first guy out on front)
Combine fire with other friendlies near you.
Use the chat when possible
And avoid Theta at all costs
Mostly sound advise and should be listened to with exception of the following points...
Avoid one trick builds: if the one trick is dealing damage in the most efficent manner it should not be avoided. This is why we have a glut of PPC/AC builds. These builds simply function best. So until this is fixed (if ever) play the game we have.
Do not be the first over the ridge line: Someone has to or nothing happens.Or worse still it's attrition via pokey shooty and the game degrades to whack a mech. There is a trick to being first and that is be hard to hit and imediatley followed by everyone else.A charge of one is dumb leading a landslide is good.
Avoid being the point of the spear: Again someone has to be the point the trick is doing it correctly. If you are in an Atlas or slow moving mech with tons of firepower you should NOT be the point. This type of mech is to be deployed along the wedge of the spear they are to slow to be the first to engage. The Point should be the smallest fastest mech you have and once again the trick to surviving being point is to have the heavy hitters piling in right behind you.Your little fast mech has spotted the enemy, relayed possition to the assault team and if you did it all right is behind the enemy lines when the assaults push in.
he trick is teamwork isn't easy as a Pug you will have a random draw on talent you may have ego obsticals to overcome even if you have a plan some players are "to good" to listen and follow a command.
You may have a poor pairing of equipment as well (loads of LRMs vs loads of ECM) Pugging isn't easy and it isn't the fast track to success but,I know some pug for lifers I would have at my side anytime but mostly, pugs are luck of the draw.
