How about we just agree that the Thor is freaking sexy and dispense with the "DOA" crap before it is even played. Everything can't be the best. That is why the Washington Generals exist. DUH!

Hmm, lessee hurr- It will have a C-ERLL, a UAC20, Streak SRM6 and an ER small laser for a grand total of 70 damage "Alpha" in close range...the "alpha" will be slightly mushy because of DOT mechanics, but if you aim really good and/or catch an opponent totally flat footed and/or are at point blank range, DOT isn't really going to matter.

So let's recap- 70 Damage Alpha...on a 70 ton mech...with 360 armor...and Jump jets...that runs 94kph after speed tweak... cannot be killed by just popping one side torso...and cannot be killed by just critting the ammo.

Bye Bye AC40 JagerMech, it was nice knowin' ya. (and that opinion is coming from a pilot who has close to 1300 drops in various JagerMech variants/fits)

while a definite improvement over the thor, even the timber wolf is pretty meh. its side torsos are easy to pick out because of the missile pods. but also its firepower isnt all that great proportional to its tonnage. the 60 ton maddog (vulture) actually carries more weapons than the timber wolf. many of the clan mechs suffer from having oversized engines which arnt particularly efficient usage of their tonnage.

Many people already cram as big of an engine as possible on XL mechs, such as Victor. Oversized engine is less of an issue than you claim.

Also, Clan weapons are lighter than IS counterpart.

I used to be a White Knight. Then Paul pissed on my legs a few times too many, and the yellow stain was embarrassing me. So, I decided time for a color change, to a nice Jaded outlook.

All White Knights become Black Knights eventually. :)

Lots of people are talking about Summoner replacing the 3D. Is PGI doing mixed matches?

I have never heard or read that Clan mechs are getting a clan-only queue or that matches are going to be split into IS team vs Clan team...so yes?

(searching right now to see if I can find anything that says otherwise...but given how the match system is set up to be mostly random teams currently, I'd be surprised if they made strict Clan vs IS in every match from here on)

Every time I asked, others told me there would be no mixed matches. Hence the confusion.

However, PGI does go back on their words, so nothing is set in stone yet...

I just dug through two or three threads, and I don't see anything about it there or in the couple Dev blogs regarding Clan implementation and in game balance. A lot of people seemed to be under the impression that only Clan players can own Clan mechs initially, which is incorrect from what I am reading...anybody can own and fly them.

I could see "faction tech only" being a firm rule in CW battles...but in regular random PUG matches? (Where currently they can't even add in a rule like 3/3/3/3 without all hell breaking loose?)

Yep, it's starting 12 VS 12, mixed queue. Might change if they actually are superior, but the IS mechs get a 5 or 10 ton advantage when the MM takes it into account.

Worse. Because the Catapults missile pods are at least its arms. The Timber Wolfs are its side torsos. So destroying its missile pod also takes out the arm too.

I doubt it.
The missile pods on the madcat will almost certainly be some sort of auxiliary section, like they were in mechwarrior 4. They aren't likely going to be side torso sections.

Thanks for that...any chance you have a link to where it says that firmly?

There sure seems to be a lot we all don't know about the Clans right now....and that's pretty scary considering that they are almost exactly a month away from being released. I re-read as many of the blogs about making thier tech balanced with IS tech as I could today...and yeah, I'm thinking that this coming June 17th might be a really really black day for anybody who didn't pre order clan mechs to play with and tries to just keep flying IS mechs only instead.

White knights are pure and noble till they take a knife to the back.

Mine was the AC/2 change and PGI being silent about it for months. Then a whole bunch of posts which made PGI look like spineless gits, a few other things I can't say, and well.... lets say after I washed the broken rose colored glass out of my eyes my play time tanked.

Since then I've watched other white knights have their et tu brute and its been interesting to see what its been for reach and everyone of them.

Got anything remotely backing that? Because to do such a mechanic, without serious balance issues would require them to do hitbox passes on all the mechs in the game currently with huge wonky shoulder boxes, from the HBK to the Banshee.

It would also massively go against the standard they have tried to adhere to about core Btech build rules.

Pretty sure it was said it would be part of the torso. No source that I can recall off the top of my head. I do not see it being a separate hitbox. It will be side torso, love it or hate it.

Since you wont be able to kill a Mad Cat just by popping one side torso, it's probably fine that way.
