......thats kinda the point of a light mech: its smaller size and speed mitigates the fact that it is sacrificing a LOT of armor and some firepower to achieve those speeds. Its size is to more easily allow it to be missed by pilot mistakes.

....We're gonna punish it now for achieving one of its design philosophies?

As to the atlas argument.....the atlas also outweighs the locust by somewhere around 65 tons, and while not all of this goes to armor, it is EASILY 3 times as armored as a locust. Also, guns. Lots and LOTS of guns, in comparison to the locust. Those are an atlas's benefits. And while there is some rl truth behind the heavier ride shaking less, the light mechs do deserve some rl physics bending for the sake of gameplay, otherwise the atlas (and all the other mech classes) would have too many benefits over it.

You say the light would get 'punished for achieving one of its design philosophies', which is not the case. I'm not saying add more shake to what already takes place for a light.

I am saying that currently an assault does get punished for achieving one of its design philosophies. As per the original statement, an Atlas shouldn't shake as much as a locust. Which i've already pointed out, it actually shakes more often. Which is only worsened when you take into what you've said that a 100 ton mech gets 'lots and lots' of guns as it's benefit, but is less effective aiming them because it's reciving shake mechanics that the locust can simply avoid.

"Its size is to more easily allow it to be missed by pilot mistakes" Yes, but it wasn't designed to be missed by the shooter reciving cockpit shake.

While this is true, like i said, this may be a case where realism takes a backseat to game play balance, as the atlas can afford the screen shaking more than the locust, because it has the armor to withstand it. Where as if you make the atlas take less screenshake than the light, the light mech tier now has one MORE notch against on top of:

Lighest armor allocation
weakest weapons loadout
paradoxically highest aggro rate (chase the chicken syndrome demonstrates this beautifully)
lowest mistake forgiveness rate (a couple of wrong moves in an atlas can cost you a torso; a couple of wrong moves in a light will cost you the light)

decreasing cockpit shake for heavier mechs would be adding another detriment to piloting lights:

most vulnerable to concentration loss due to incoming fire

Lights are surprisingly powerful assets on the battlefield....when used skillfully. Otherwise, its a deathtrap walking. Allowing cockpit shake to be the most substantial on the light would be adding another spring to the trap.

Screen shake has nothing to do with armor. 1 damge shakes as much as 20 damage.

How is game play balance having one mech experiencing more shake? This is what it is now currently. The atlas, is getting hit more consistantly than the locust, therefore it is experiencing more shake. If the the shake of the atlas was lessened, then they would be experencing equal shake. That's game play balance, very similar to more armor-more hits, vs less armor-less hits.
